AMY WINEHOUSE’s father MITCH is seeking to have the star committed to a mental institution, because he is convinced it is the only way he can save his daughter from her alleged drug demons.
Taxi driver Mitch Winehouse is desperate for the Grammy-winner to live a clean and sober lifestyle, and has grown increasingly worried over her erratic behaviour - which resulted in her arrest and subsequent police caution over accusations of assault earlier this week (begs21Apr08).
And now Mitch wants his troubled daughter to be sectioned under the U.K.’s Mental Health Act, because she has proven she is at risk of hurting herself and others.
He tells British newspaper the News of the World, "I want her sectioned. The situation is getting out of control. I want her off the street. I don’t think being somewhere (in rehab) for six weeks is going to cure her problems. I think it needs far more radical measures.
"I’ve been on the phone to Amy’s manager in Los Angeles and he’s starting things rolling. They are going to be speaking to doctors, psychologists and everything else. Ultimately, it’s the doctors who will decide if anybody is sectionable.
"I’ve told them (medical authorities) she is a danger to herself. There is evidence of self-harming and she’s a danger to other people because she’s attacked someone.
"Obviously as her dad I will try and do what’s best for her. Unfortunately, what I think is best for her and what she thinks is best for her are two different things." It’s not the first time Mitch has expressed his desire to have Winehouse committed - he previously revealed his intentions in January (08), but hospital officials couldn’t help, because she wasn’t considered a danger to herself.

50 CENT has dismissed reports his mentor EMINEM is battling problems with his weight, insisting the SLIM SHADY star is "looking good".
The Without Me hitmaker was rumoured to have piled on the pounds at the end of last year (07), after taking a brief hiatus from his hip-hop career.
One U.S. tabloid even claimed Eminem - real name Marshall Mathers III - was "starting to look like an M&M".
But 50, who is signed to Eminem’s Shady Records, has laughed off the reports.
He tells MTV.com, "Em is in shape right now. He looks good. I seen him in Detroit. He’s gonna look real good when you see him return. He’s in shape right now." However, the In Da Club star admits Eminem has been struggling with another health problem: "The last time I seen him we played basketball together. He had a knee injury, so we chilled for a little bit."

PAMELA ANDERSON has been left upset by reports she’s no longer a vegetarian after photos of her gobbling a veggie hot dog were misconstrued by the media.
The actress/model - a longtime meat-free star and PETA activist - was accused of eating a beef dog during a recent visit to her son Brandon’s baseball game in Malibu, California.
But Anderson has been quick to point out she’s never eat meat even if there was nothing else on the menu.
She tells PlanetGossip.eonline.com, "It’s like Hotdoggate… Clearly, it’s a veggie dog (in the pictures). They’ve been serving veggie dogs and veggie burgers at my kids’ baseball games for years now."

Actor EWAN McGREGOR is in negotiations to join the cast of TOM HANKS’ forthcoming movie ANGELS AND DEMONS.
Filmmaker Ron Howard will direct the film, the prequel to 2006 blockbuster The Da Vinci Code, in what will be the second big-screen adaptation of Dan Brown’s popular books.
Hanks is set to reprise his role as symbologist Robert Langdon as he embarks upon a quest to uncover a conspiracy within the Catholic Church.
And McGregor is reportedly being touted to play a powerful Vatican insider assisting Langdon, according to Variety.
If the rumours are true, he will joins new leading lady Ayelet Zurer in the movie.
Filming is set to begin in May (08).

Supermodel HEIDI KLUM and her husband SEAL celebrate their wedding anniversary on the same beach where they exchanged vows in 2005 - with the same minister.
The couple renewed their vows in the same spot in Costa Careyes, Mexico in 2006 and 2007, and are making plans to return there next month (May08).

"An impulse purchase of a companion for the next 15 years? … Nobody expects them to have the dogs much longer than 15 months." Spears has a small collection of chihuahuas which no one seems to see anymore and Hilton recently boasted of breaking California’s dog ownership laws by taking in seven pets.

"But because I’m so tall and I’m standing, the Vespa shot out from beneath my legs and I’m left standing there like Wile E. Coyote.
"The guy thought I was crazy because I just started laughing hysterically. It was amazing."

Hit TV shows BROTHERS & SISTERS and UGLY BETTY repeated their success at the 2008 Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Media Awards on Saturday (26Apr08) by scooping the same top awards as last year (07).
Brothers & Sisters, which stars Sally Field and Calista Flockhart, won the prize for Outstanding Drama Series, while the America Ferrera-starring Ugly Betty was named Outstanding Comedy Series for the second consecutive year.

The 19th annual GLAAD Awards, which took place at Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre, honour individuals and projects in the media for their representations of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.

Actor ROBERT BLAKE is celebrating a partial victory after a judge halved the $30 million (£15 million) civil court award he was ordered to pay his murdered wife’s family.
The 74-year-old was acquitted of the murder of Bonny Lee Bakley by a criminal jury in 2005, but was ordered to pay damages after he was found liable for her death by a civil court.
Blake challenged the decision at California’s 2nd District Court of Appeal, but a judge upheld the original verdict, which ruled the star was partially responsible for his spouse’s murder, although he cut the $30 million payout to $15 million (£7.5 million).
Bakley was shot dead in May 2001 while sitting in Blake’s car, just six months after the pair married. The actor had left his wife alone to return to the restaurant they had just dined at to retrieve a gun he had left behind. He was then sued by Bakley’s family for wrongful death.
Appearing in court on Friday (25Apr08), Blake’s attorney M. Gerald Schwartzbach argued his client had been given a harsher ruling because of his celebrity, telling the court: "There are a lot of folks who can’t accept that he was acquitted of murder. They think he got away with murder and they want to exact a price in civil court." However, his claims were dismissed and Blake must now pay the $15 million to Bakley’s family.

The step-brother of British singer CHARLOTTE CHURCH has been arrested amid allegations of rape.
Andrew Church is at the centre of a police investigation after authorities received a complaint from a young woman about an alleged attack, which is reported to have taken place earlier this month (Apr08).
The unemployed 22-year-old, who lives with his mother Jayne in Cardiff, Wales, was taken into police custody earlier this week (begs21Apr08), but has now been released without charge, pending further investigation.
A spokesperson for the South Wales police says, "A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape but has been released on police bail. Inquiries are continuing. The man has not been charged." Andrew is the son of Charlotte’s step-father James.

Rockers THE BREEDERS overcame a series of technical problems during their set at California’s Coachella Festival to wow fans on the opening day of the event.
The band hit the main stage on Friday afternoon (25Apr08) and set out to keep the crowds entertained as they battled the sweltering desert heat.
They hit a number of sound troubles minutes into their performance, leaving singers Kim Deal and her twin sister Kelley to belt out their vocals at the top of their lungs in a bid to get their voices heard.
But the high-spirited pair soldiered on and closed their set with their hit song Cannonball, their cover of The Beatles’ Happiness Is A Warm Gun, much to the approval of the throng of supporters, who cheered and applauded the group throughout their appearance.

Rocker MORRISSEY has donated $150,000 (£75,000) to an anti-racism music festival to prevent the London event from being scrapped.
Organisers of Sunday’s (27Apr08) Rock Against Racism concert faced the possibility of cancelling the show altogether after the event’s main sponsors pulled out - leaving them with a $150,000 deficit.
But the former The Smiths frontman stepped forward to save the day, by encouraging his management team, promoters and his booking agency to donate to the "historic event" and make up the lost cash.
He praised the Rock Against Racism’s "important, anti-racist message" and said the gig "must be allowed to go ahead." He added, "This is something I am committed to and we appreciate everyone coming together so quickly to make it happen." After learning the concert will be able to go ahead after all, organisers Martin Smith and Lee Billingham said: "We’re extremely grateful for Morrissey’s generous financial contribution." The one-day event is currently taking place at London’s Victoria Park with acts including British rockers The Good The Bad & The Queen, Hard-Fi and The View.

Cult rockers BLACK LIPS brought the spirit of guitar great JIMI HENDRIX to the Coachella Festival in California on Friday (25Apr08) - by setting fire to their instruments.
The Atlanta, Georgia rockers were determined to put on a show to challenge mainstage headline Jack Johnson - and had some star support onstage.
Model Agyness Deyn and rocker Har Mar Superstar were among the celebrities who ignored Johnson to catch the Black Lips, who ended their spectacular set by setting fire to equipment and then smashing it onstage.
The band stayed on after their performance to hand out splinters from guitars and drumsets to fans.
Deyn and Har Mar weren’t the only celebrity fans watching other acts on Friday - Aerosmith leader Steven Tyler was spotted trying to downplay his appearance in the V.I.P. area wearing a cowboy hat, while he watched the Raconteurs.
Meanwhile, Black Lips’ equipment-destroying finale wasn’t the only talking point aside from the music and the heat at the desert festival on Friday - La Savy Fav star Tom Harrington took to the scaffolding to climb above the Outdoor Theater’s stage.
The bearded frontman left the stage at one point to dance with fans in the audience and then climbed the lighting rig above him.
Dressed in hiking boots and red swimming trunks, the portly rocker also had police watching his performance very carefully after he poked his finger through the crotch of his Speedos and jumped into the crowd, yelling, "It’s hot as f**k and I need a hug… I need a handjob."
