A Russian man was stunned when he returned from his holiday to find his house had been had stolen. Yuri Konstantinov, 50, came back to discover find an empty space where his two storey house had once been.
In his absence, Yuri’s neighbour had dismantled the house brick by brick and sold it, including all the bricks, window frames, and the kitchen sink. A police spokesman said: "A local resident decided to take it away piece by piece, and he dismantled it for construction materials. This is not though the first such case we have come across, in remote areas it is considered normal by some people."

A Brazilian priest has gone missing after taking off while tied to hundreds of helium balloons.
Reverend Adelir Antonio de Carli floated away off the coast of Santa Catarina, wearing a helmet, thermal suit and a parachute.
He was attempting to break a record for the longest period aloft with balloons, flying 465 miles to raise money for a spiritual rest-stop for truckers. The current record stands at 19 hours. Denise Gallas, treasurer of Sao Cristovao parish, said de Carli reached 20,000 feet before winds blew him off course. Gallas said: "We are absolutely confident he will be found alive and well, floating somewhere in the ocean."

A US man has invented his own robot to help protect his neighbourhood.
The ‘Bum Bot’ - which is armed with a water pistol - is a waist high robot with ’security’ emblazoned on its chest which patrols the streets picking fights with homeless people. It is equipped with a loudspeaker, bright red lights, video camera and water cannon mounted on a spinning turret. Rufus Terrill said he invented the robot after being threatened several times. He controls the ‘Bum Bot’ with a remote and broadcasts messages through its loudspeaker. He said: "It’s just like a video game."

A US woman was terrified after finding an 8ft long alligator in her kitchen.
Sandra Frosti, from Florida, believes the reptile pushed through the screen door on her back porch before walking through an open sliding glass door. The alligator apparently then went through the living room, down a hall and into the kitchen, where it stayed.
She phoned emergency services, who sent someone out to catch the alligator, which was cut by a plate that was knocked to the ground during the chaos.

Swiss couples are returning to church - to get divorced in the same place they got married.
An official liturgy for divorce ceremonies is being drawn up so couples can end their marriages where they started.
Zurich-based Protestant pastor Frank Worbs, who is working on the liturgy, said: "A ritual or symbolic process includes meetings with the priest beforehand in the same way that married couples have a meeting.
"It helps divorced people to get over the separation and achieve definite closure. Sometimes there is no other solution but to separate.
"In such situations it is important to make the divorce as amicable as possible for the couple so that they can begin a new chapter in their lives.
Other members of the family can also take part and come to terms with things more easily. "

A British man who gave up his highly paid job to become a carpenter has discovered he’s allergic to wood.
Dan Hill, 32, wanted a stress-free life away from his £80,000 banking job in the City of London so swapped his desk for a workshop.
However, whenever he was in the workshop, he developed an itchy rash all over his body and his eyes were left streaming. Doctors diagnosed an allergy to dust and wood shavings.
He said: "I was gutted. All my friends thought I was mad giving up my City job. I had given up everything to become a carpenter to find out I’m allergic to wood."

A British widower has found two new drinking pals after his son advertised for them in the local newspaper.
88-year-old Jack Hammond was lonely after moving to a care home and wanted someone to go out to the pub with in the evenings.
So his son Mike, 56, put a notice in the post office asking for someone with similar interests or background to accompany his dad to the Compass Inn in Winsor, twice a week for a couple of hours.
Trevor Pugh, 78, and Henry Rosenvinge, 58, will now spend several nights a week with Jack chatting about military history and current affairs.
Pugh said: "I like having topical discussions and meeting new people and I’d be happy to take him down the pub and enjoy a chat … we are both ex-army so we have that in common."

A British builder demolished the work he’d done on a house after the tenant didn’t have the money to pay him.
Nigel Gray, 44, knocked down the porch and conservatory, worth £15,000, from the property in West Sussex after getting fed-up with waiting for his cash.
Anita Dovey, who had permission from the council to make improvements to the house, has now been ordered to pay to clear the rubble.
Gray said: "I’m absolutely gutted to have had to do this because it was such fantastic handiwork but I could not just let this go.
"We just kept on getting a string of excuses and bounced cheques." When the work was not paid for, Gray said he gained the consent from the local council to demolish his building work.

A Hungarian singer was thrown into an orchestra by his horse who didn’t like his voice.
Zoltan Bereczky’s animal bolted when he started his performance, bucking him over the reigns and into the orchestra pit during a performance of ‘The Stars of Eger’ at the national theatre in Szeged, Hungary. Bereczky said: "There was a fighting scene with fireworks and clashing swords and I was on horseback, and the horse was not bothered. But when I started singing - the horse suddenly took off." Throughout rehearsals producers were worried about the horse being scared by fireworks used in the scene, but eventually it was Bereczky’s voice that triggered the animal to bolt. Amazingly both the singer and orchestra managed to continue the performance.

Adolf Hitler has been re-incarnated - as a children’s doll. A Ukrainian manufacturer has started making 16inch toys of the German dictator, complete with moveable arms and a selection of outfits. One outfit is based on Hitler’s earlier days, with a brown shirt, cap and jodphurs and a wartime version with the ‘classic’ Hitler look of double breasted grey coat, black trousers and swastika armband. The set also has a set of accessories and medals, including a mini iron cross. As many as three million Ukranians died in the Second World War and any Nazi images that portray it in a good light are banned in the country.

A US man was arrested after trying to pump fuel into an imaginary car at a petrol station.
Police in Kentucky reportedly found Joshua L. Moore at the station, attempting to put gas into a car that wasn’t there.
Officers immediately noted what appeared to be a strong smell of marijuana and after they arrested him, they found two large bags of cannabis as well as many ecstacy tablets.
Moore has now been charged with three counts of drug trafficking.

A Chinese man has been using cigarette packets to cover up a huge hole in his chest.
Rao Jiacang had run out of money for crucial heart surgery - after doctors had started operating to remove some of his infected lungs - so decided to plaster the packets over himself.
He managed to survive for ten years even though his heart was visibly beating through the paper.
But he is now desperate for a donor to come forward to pay for proper surgery. He said: "I had the operation in 1998. I was then laid up for almost five years but gradually got used to the wound, and since 2003 I have been back on my feet. "But no-one would give me a job and people were scared of me with the big hole in my chest."

A Russian priest was tricked into giving a sacred blessing at a strip club. Father Nickolai, says the Studio 74 club in Chelyabinsk convinced him the building was a ballet school rather than a strip club, although the blessing seems to be having the desired effect. A spokesperson for Studio 74, Anna Usmanova, said: "Ever since we had this sacred act performed on our premises customers say they have experienced an entirely new atmosphere here and more people are coming in. The blessing seems to be working."

A Chinese man has survived being trapped in a tank of ice for 90 minutes.
Wang Jintu beat the previous record of one hour and 13 minutes when he performed his stunt at a club in Beijing.
Once Weng entered the glass tank workers poured bags of ice over him until he was submerged up to his shoulders.
The tank was opened 90 minutes later and Wang walked out. He needed help but was still able to wave to the audience.
Wang’s daughter said her father has always been able to cope with cold weather.
She added: "Most of the time he just wears short pants - even in winter."

A British man hypnotised himself to have surgery on his right hand without the aid of an anaesthetic.
Alex Lenkei, 61, West Sussex, sedated himself by hypnosis before the 83-minute operation and said he was fully aware of everything going on around him but free from pain.
The surgery at Worthing Hospital involved removing some bone in the base of the thumb and fusing some joints in an attempt to improve his arthritis.
Lenkei said: "It took between 30 seconds to a minute for me to place myself under hypnosis, and from that point I felt a very deep relaxation.
"I was aware of everything around me, from people talking and at one stage a hammer and chisel was used as well as a surgical saw, but I felt no pain."

A mini bus was left stranded after its satellite navigation system guided it into a river.
The driver of the vehicle - which is owned by a taxi firm called Steamline - was on his was to collect a fare in Norfolk but took a wrong turn in to a nearby river.
A spokeswoman for Streamline said: "The driver told us he was following his sat nav and, when it told him to carry straight on, he did, even though it was taking him along the river." The mini bus has since been removed and is being examined by mechanics.

A US man has turned blue after using a cream to help his irritating skin condition.
Paul Karason developed dermatitis as a result of stress 14 years ago and decided to treat it using silver extract.
It is usually used orally but Karason rubbed it into his face to increase the effects.
Karason, 57, says the effect was so gradual he didn’t notice it at first, but now his skin is entirely blue. He says he is now so embarrassed about his condition he has moved states and seeks to avoid public places.

The 25th anniversary of MICHAEL JACKSON movie THRILLER was celebrated at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival on Thursday (24Apr08), with ‘the world’s largest zombie disco’.
Director John Landis was on hand at a special free outdoor screening of the film at Manhattan’s World Financial Center.
