DOHERTY AND BARAT REUNITE TO WRITE MUSICAL

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:41 pm

Former LIBERTINES bandmates PETE DOHERTY and CARL BARAT are reuniting for the first time in five years to create a new musical.
The former pals went their separate ways when Doherty was sacked from the band in 2003, after failing to beat his drug addictions. Doherty was also convicted and jailed for burgling Barat’s London home.
Now performing in different bands, the two are reteaming to create the music for a new London show at the Donmar Warehouse theatre.
Barat says, "The theatre wants lots of new songs. We’ll probably have to write about 20. But first we have to sit down and think about the rock ‘n’ roll story".
The project, which is reportedly about an up-and-coming rock group, will have to wait until Doherty is released from a 14-week jail sentence for "breach of time-keeping, non-compliance of his (probation) order and using different drugs".

MORE FINANCIAL WOES FOR SPEARS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:41 pm

BRITNEY SPEARS has been dragged into yet another financial mess - one of her brand companies owes more than $23,000 (GBP11,500) in taxes for earnings dating back four years.
A week after Spears learned she’d have to pay her various legal representatives $400,000 (GBP200,000), the pop star has been hit with another high-cost headache.
A document obtained by U.S. cable network E! shows that Britney Online Inc., one of Britney Spears’ numerous name-brand companies, owes $23,589.17 in California state taxes on the entity’s 2004 earnings.
A warning from the Franchise Tax Board of the State of California states that "further interest and fees will accrue" if the sum is not paid.
Spears’ father Jamie and a court-appointed lawyer took charge of the singer’s financial affairs after fighting for conservatorship of the Toxic star’s estate following her hospitalisation for mental illness issues in February (08).
It is not known if the singer’s other brand-name companies face similar tax issues.

KILLER BEAR’S OWNER WAS A PETA TARGET

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:35 pm

LATEST: Hollywood animal trainer RANDY MILLER became a target for animal rights activists last year (07), months before his prize bear attacked and killed its trainer this week (beg21Apr08).
The five-year-old grizzly, which featured in Will Ferrell’s Semi-Pro movie, had to be restrained with pepper spray after fatally biting 39-year-old trainer Stephan Miller at the Predators in Action facility in Big Bear, California.
And as animal rights activists call for the bear, named Rocky, to be retired from showbusiness, officials People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals have revealed Miller and his facility were on their radar in 2007.
Following Tuesday’s (22Apr08) tragedy, PETA bosses have rereleased inspection reports and other documents that prove Miller’s sanctuary and training facility was a poor home for the big cats and other wild animals the acclaimed trainer took in.
A U.S. Department of Agriculture report, obtained by PETA, suggests Miller’s animals were kept in small enclosures with no roofs and cages were damaged and broken.
PETA bosses have also unearthed print ads Miller paid for in 2005’s Animal Finders’ Guide publication, in which he attempted to sell an assortment of big cats and a black bear.
As officials decide whether or not to euthanise Rocky, bosses at the American Humane Association feel sure the bear will never work on a film or TV set again.
A spokeswoman says, "We would probably not be comfortable working with Rocky on the set. It would be a liability issue."

WENTZ STAGES SILENT DIAMOND PROTEST AT NME AWARDS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:29 pm

FALL OUT BOY rocker PETE WENTZ got political at the NME Awards in Los Angeles on Wednesday night (23Apr08) by scribbling ‘Coltan Is A Conflict Diamond’ on his T-shirt.
The bass player was protesting the mining of coltan diamonds in Africa.
The gem, which is used in the manufacture of mobile phones, has become a massive commodity that some say is now more valuable than gold.
It’s mining has led to warring rebel groups in the Democratic Republic of Congo exploiting coltan to help finance war - an issue raised in Leonardo DiCaprio’s hit film Blood Diamond.
Wentz told reporters, "People have got to be careful what they buy." The rocker went on to state that the engagement ring he bought his new fiancee Ashlee Simpson was not made with conflict diamonds: "I trust the jeweller. He’s a reputable person."

KEYS BLAMES NEW YORK WEATHER FOR CANCELLED CONCERTS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:53 pm

LATEST: ALICIA KEYS is blaming New York’s unpredictable weather for her bad throat - claiming a live outdoor gig in the city left her with swollen vocal chords.
The singer cancelled gigs in Pennsylvania on Tuesday (22Apr08) and Ohio on Thursday (24Apr08), after an early morning Manhattan performance for TV show Today on Monday (21Apr08) left her unable to sing.
Her spokesperson Theola Borden reveals, "It was really cold outside. That was a bit strenuous on her.
"Afterwards, she went to rehearsal in Pittsburgh but wasn’t feeling up to par. She felt she needed to cancel rather than give a sub-par performance." Disappointed fans affected by the concert cancellations were shocked to spot the singer guest-hosting BET network show 106 & Park on Wednesday night (23Apr08) - but Borden insists she wasn’t scamming her fans.
She adds, "She wanted to honour her commitment to BET. Co-hosting (106 & Park) took no more than 30 minutes of a speaking voice. That doesn’t compare to singing for two straight hours." Speaking on the show, Keys explained how the tour is stressing her out: "It takes a lot of organising. It’s taking all the music that I have written and making it visual. It’s crazy." Keys is expected to return to the stage Saturday (26Apr08) in Columbus, Ohio.
