LATEST: Rapper FOXY BROWN is a free woman after she was released from a New York jail to much fanfare on Friday afternoon (18Apr08).
The Candy star - real name Inga Marchand - has served eight months of a 12-month sentence at Riker’s Island Prison for violating her probation by manhandling two manicurists.
But she walked free from jail on Friday and was greeted by loud cheers from the crowds of fans who had responded to her earlier request and gathered outside the notorious penitentiary to give her a rapturous welcome.
On Tuesday (15Apr08), Brown called on her fans to wait for her in the parking lot of the correctional facility, wearing T-shirts bearing her name and waving banners with her image plastered on them.
Wearing a brown leather jacket, black halter neck and a cream bandana, Brown spent some time talking and hugging her fans, frequently telling them, "I love y’all!", before climbing into her waiting car to be driven home.
The scene was captured on film for use in her forthcoming reality VH1 TV show, which will show her adjusting to life on the outside.
She also has a new album, Brooklyn’s Don Diva, due for release on 13 May (08).

Incarcerated rocker PETE DOHERTY has been moved to a secure area of a London prison after thwarting a group of fellow inmates’ plots to assault him.
According to reports, Doherty was informed of the convicts’ plan of attack and asked to be moved to a segregated unit of the prison, where he is currently being held with 15 other inmates.
A prison source says, "He was quiet. He was calm. But he did seem pale - like Casper the ghost." The Babyshambles rocker was jailed for 14 weeks on 8 April (08) in Wormwood Scrubs penitentiary for "breach of time-keeping, non-compliance of his (probation) order and using different drugs".

Hollywood actress KATE HUDSON is happy with life as a single mother, insisting she’s "not interested in dating".
The Almost Famous actress split from the father of her four-year-old son Ryder - husband Chris Robinson - in 2006.

Hollywood legend AL PACINO has hit out at actor pal KEVIN SPACEY’s "terrible" impersonation of him.
Pacino is used to having his distinctive voice mimicked by comedians and fellow actors - but he is baffled by his Glengarry Glen Ross co-star’s impression.
He says, "Kevin Spacey does what he thinks is a great imitation of me. It’s terrible. It’s just terrible and people say after he does it it’s just great.

Hollywood actor JOHNNY DEPP has credited his partner VANESSA PARADIS with saving him from his troubled youth.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star spent much of his teens experimenting with drugs and admits his destructive behaviour continued into adulthood.
But Depp is convinced that meeting his longterm girlfriend in 1998 was a turning point in his life - crediting Paradis with giving him a settled home life and emotional stability.

Comedian ARIES SPEARS has been handed a 15-day suspended jail sentence, after pleading guilty to molesting a woman during a stand-up show in New York in February (08).
Spears, who was charged with "forcible touching", appeared in court on Wednesday (16Apr08) and pleaded guilty to the count.
He also admitted to "high-fiving" his female victim in the chest while cracking jokes at the Comix comedy club gig.
Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Pederson told Spears: "You can’t high-five a woman’s breast." The 33-year-old was sentenced to 15 days behind bars, but the jail term has been suspended for one year - throughout which he must not molest any other women, reports the New York Daily News.

Kind-hearted U.S. band RASCAL FLATTS is set to be honoured with an award for their charity efforts.
The country stars will receive the Humanitarian Award from the Academy of Country Music and Home Depot on 18 May (08) at a ceremony in Las Vegas for raising money for a range of charities.
Guitarist Joe Don Rooney says, "We have been blessed with some incredible successes in our career the past couple of years. Oscar-winning actor JAVIER BARDEM is visiting refugees in north Africa, ahead of his appearance at the Sahara International Film Festival.
The No Country For Old Men star has been spending time with Sahrawi (corr) families who have lived in a camp in Algeria, since they fled their native Western Sahara more than 30 years ago, because of Moroccan and Mauritian oppression.
Bardem and his brother Carlos - who he is travelling with - hope their trip will raise awareness of the tribe. During their visit they have been spotted riding camels in the desert with locals.
The festival, traditionally dominated by Spanish films, will take place in Dakhla this weekend (17-20Apr08). At the end of the festival, the top director will be awarded a camel.

LATEST: Rapper FREEKEY ZEKEY has blasted the New York police who attended the scene of his near-fatal car crash in Manhattan on Tuesday (15Apr08).
The DipSet crewmember - real name Ezekial Jiles - was driving home from the studio on Tuesday night when his white Mercedes was rear-ended in the city.
The vehicle catapulted through the air and landed on top of a parked sports utility vehicle (SUV). Miraculously, Zekey and his passengers escaped serious injury and he emerged virtually unscathed.
Recalling the accident, he tells SOHH.com, "I was coming up 115th and 1st, and my driver was driving, I had three girls in the back and all of a sudden the n**ga runs the red light and hit my car. People that witnessed it said that my car flew up in the air and landed on a Hummer, and the Hummer was parked.
"The car, it ain’t (sic) totalled, but the right side of the back seat is on the left side right now, the rear view mirror is in the trunk… I mean, it was f**ked up." But the rapper is furious with the way he was treated by cops - because they treated him as if he was the guilty party.
He adds, "I wasn’t even driving and they had me take a breathalyzer test.
Then, they put the neon lights all in my car to see if there were drugs or drug residue and all that. They brought the dogs… I mean, I’m a rapper. What are you doing this for?"

Singer ASHLEE SIMPSON added to the confusion surrounding reports she is pregnant, by refusing to confirm or deny the claims during a live appearance on U.S. TV on Friday (18Apr08).

ANNIE LENNOX’s recent performance on AMERICAN IDOL has landed her back on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart - for the first time in more than a decade.

A German man survived falling 25ft down a lift shaft after landing on a woman who had plunged down it the day before.
Jens Wilhelms, 27, escaped unharmed after his fall was cushioned by the 57-year-old woman and managed to free himself.
He called out rescue services who took the woman to hospital, who is now in a critical condition.
Police spokesman Manfred Vonhausen said: "The woman had been lying unconscious in the shaft for some time already.
"Although it made her injuries worse it also probably saved her life that he fell on her as it meant he knew she was there and managed to get help." Rescue workers said that without Wilhelm’s plunge the woman would have died from internal bleeding.

Passenger aircrafts are set to install urinals in a bid to cut queues for the lavatory.
The one-man units will be set up in cubicles alongside the conventional lavatories, which have been designed by German manufacturers Dassel interiors.
Norbert Runn, the company’s head of business development, says the urinals could be in use by next year.
However he declined to say which airline was ready to take up the new technology.
With men being the majority of airline passengers in economy class, the introduction of urinals is seen as having a number of advantages.
Runn said: "They are smaller and take up less room than conventional toilets."

A Welsh man was stunned after it was revealed he’d been living with a broken leg for 50 years.
Roy Calloway, 70, smashed his right limb in several places in a motorbike accident in 1958 and He spent six months in traction and two years on crutches as surgeons tried to reset the fractures.
Although he was still in pain, Roy thought it was a side-effect of the treatment.
He even went back to work sweeping floors in a steel plant, leaning on a walking stick and a brush.
But in later life the pain grew so bad he went to his GP and was amazed to be told his femur, tibia and fibula bones had never fused back together properly.

A British musician has lost his violin worth £180,000 after leaving it in the luggage rack of a train.
Robert Napier had just had the 17th-Century instrument valued by a London dealer at £180,000 but was on his way home to Wiltshire.
But when he got off the train he accidentally left the violin on board and despite alerting staff, it has still not been found.
He said: "I put it on the luggage rack above my seat and when I got off the train I simply left it. I had my briefcase and coat, how I normally travel." Insurance company Allianz has offered a reward of up to £10,000 for the return of the Goffriller violin.
