E STREET BAND STAR FEDERICI DEAD
E STREET BAND star DANNY FEDERICI has died. He was 58.
The musician, who had battled melanoma cancer for three years, died at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York on Thursday (17Apr08).
Federici was famed for being the longtime keyboard player for rocker Bruce Springsteen’s band, playing on hits including Hungry Heart and The Rising.
In November last year (07), Federici took a leave of absence from Springsteen’s Magic tour to battle the disease, but returned to the stage last month (Mar08) to perform at a show in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Born in the U.S in 1950, Federici first met Springsteen in the late 1960s, and was the one who invited the star to play with the E Street Band. Last year (07), when Federici was seeking further treatment for his cancer, Springsteen described him as "one of the pillars of our sound and has played beside me as a great friend for more than 40 years." He tragically added, "We all eagerly await his healthy and speedy return." Springsteen’s concerts scheduled for Friday (18Apr08) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Saturday (19Apr08) in Orlando were postponed after news of Federici’s death.
