21 TAKES THE LEAD AT U.K. BOX OFFICE
KEVIN SPACEY has gambled his way to the top of the U.K. box office - his new movie 21 has debuted atop the movie chart.
The film stars Spacey and Kate Bosworth as members of a group of mathematics geniuses who use their brains to beat Las Vegas casinos at their own game.
21 took £1.6 million ($3.2 million) in its opening week, winning more than double the profits of its closes rival; Son Of Rambow came in second place with just £749,760 ($1.49 million).
Katherine Heigl’s romantic comedy 27 Dresses is at three with £688,659 ($1.37 million), while The Spiderwick Chronicles and Step Up 2 the Streets round out the top five in fourth and fifth place, with takings of £676,798 ($1.35 million) and £662,180 ($1.32 million), respectively.
Meanwhile, Martin Scorsese’s Shine A Light rockumentary about the Rolling Stones entered the chart at number nine with £338,000 ($676,000).
