BBC WIN DALEK BOOK BATTLE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:53 pm

The BBC has won a legal battle against a company which claimed it owned the book copyright to DOCTOR WHO villains the Daleks.
Paul Fishman, whose father knew the iconic characters’ creator Terry Nation, told London’s High Court his company JHP held the book rights to Dalek stories, and claimed these had been infringed by BBC Worldwide.
A judge ruled on Wednesday (16Apr08) that while JHP held a licence to publish Dalek books in the 1960s, it did not own the copyright.
Fishman inherited JHP - which published Nation’s Dalek books - from his father, and contacted BBC Worldwide in 2001 regarding a new publishing deal.
The two companies then fell out over the storyline, with the BBC publishing The Dalek Survival Guide.
