HURT BLASTS U.K. GOVERNMENT FOR BRITISH FILM INDUSTRY WOES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:41 am

Veteran British actor JOHN HURT fears the British film industry is doomed due to the current global economic crisis - and has slammed the U.K. government for not fully supporting British filmmakers.
The Elephant Man star warns British-made movies will not survive if the industry is not offered more support from the government.
He says, "It’s not in the best state at the minute, it’s very difficult. What the government doesn’t understand is that, essentially, this is the only independent film industry and the only thing that is going to keep our culture alive in the world of film. "We need to educate the public of what our own culture is if our industry’s going to survive, otherwise we will simply be a service to Hollywood. In 2005, a tax loophole was closed for British moviemakers, meaning the price of making and producing U.K. based movies rocketed.
