MINOGUE: ‘I WAS MISDIAGNOSED’
Doctors treating Australian pop star KYLIE MINOGUE initially misdiagnosed the singer after failing to spot she was suffering from breast cancer.
The 39-year-old began feeling unwell while she was in the middle of the Australian leg of her 2005 Show Girl tour.
Minogue saw a doctor and went straight back to work after being told she was perfectly healthy.
But several weeks later the singer later found a suspicious lump in her breast and, after consulting a different doctor’s opinion, she was diagnosed with cancer.
Following a year of treatment, Minogue has now made a good recovery, but the experience has made her aware that medical tests are not always accurate.
And the star urges other women to get a second opinion from their doctor if they suspect they might have the condition.
She says, "Because someone is in a white coat and using big medical instruments doesn’t necessarily mean they’re right. I don’t want to say that to frighten people but that’s just a fact "I had just had a mammogram and they didn’t find anything and a couple of weeks later I found a lump. You must follow your intuition and if you have any doubt go back again."
