BRITNEY SPEARS has been given the perfect U.S. Mother’s Day gift - a day with her kids.
Thanks to continued improvements in the pop star’s relationship with ex-husband Kevin Federline, the rapper/dancer has agreed to let Sean Preston and Jayden James spend 11 May (08) with their mum.
Federline was given full custody of the kids after Spears staged a stand-off with police, emergency services officials and childcare experts when she refused to handover her sons after a scheduled visitation in January (08).
The couple have been battling the custody order ever since, but now Federline appears to have cooled on the issue - and he’s agreeing to let Spears spend more time with their sons.
A family friend tells Life & Style magazine that Federline is considering granting his ex overnight visits with the kids, after Spears filed a formal request with the courts.
The insider says, "He hasn’t said yes yet, but he’s considering it." And, whereas Federline once reportedly dreaded phone chats with his ex, sources claim the couple has become friendly, with the rapper calling her his "lady" and Spears ending calls by telling her former husband that she loves him.
One pals tells Life & Style, "It’s such a huge change. It hasn’t been like this between them in forever."

COLDPLAY star CHRIS MARTIN got more advice than he bargained for while working with BRIAN ENO on the band’s new album - because the veteran producer offered up sex tips.
The band hired the former Roxy Music star, who is famous for his studio work with U2 and Talking Heads, to help create a new sound for upcoming album Viva La Vida.
But Eno didn’t stop at giving the group music advice.
Martin, who is married to Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow, explains, "Brian Eno is an absolute magician. First of all you learn about life and sex and all that kind of useful stuff for outside the studio. Then you learn about music and how to make music."

TERRENCE HOWARD has saluted filmmaker JON FAVREAU for not casting him as IRON MAN - because ROBERT DOWNEY JR. was a much better fit for the comic book hero’s heavy metal suit.
Howard admits he was an early frontrunner to play Tony Stark/Iron Man and had meetings with director Favreau about the role.
Eventually the Hustle & Flow star landed the role of Stark’s sidekick and weapons expert Jim Rhodes in the blockbuster - and now he’s glad he’s not the film’s lead.
He tells WENN, "For a little while people thought I was going to be Iron Man and it didn’t hurt my career at all.
"I could have done it, but Iron Man’s sensibilities would have been a lot different. I don’t know if he would have been as free thinking and free form as Robert’s Iron Man.
"Robert has a comparative nature - he’s been a child of privilege, like Stark’s character. He knows what that life is like.
"Me, I’ve had to fight so much that it makes me a little more suited to become War Machine - someone that’s always bulldozing right through something, strategising but bulldozing through it. I think they made a really good choice."

The pop diva debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 last week (23Apr08) and her sixth number one album is still going strong, keeping former charttopper Leona Lewis’ Spirit at number two.

THE NOTEBOOK star RYAN GOSLING has joined celebrities waging war against the bosses of fast food chain KFC over the conditions in their poultry slaughterhouses.
The Oscar-nominated actor has fired off a letter on behalf of People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to John Bitove, who oversees KFC Canada, urging him to stop the ongoing abuse of fowl supplied to his restaurants.
Gosling calls on Bitove to implement meaningful animal welfare reforms, stating, "The time is ripe to do the right thing.
He adds, "By adopting the basic recommendations made by PETA and scientific experts (including raising birds in a more natural manner and employing less cruel slaughter methods), you could dramatically improve the lives and deaths of chickens raised and killed for KFC Canada." ELLEN DeGENERES, REGIS PHILBIN and BARBARA WALTERS are the U.S. TV heavyweights who will battle for the big prize at June’s (08) Daytime Emmy Awards.
DeGeneres’ self-named talk show has landed her a Best TV Host nomination up against Live! frontman Philbin and Walters and her The View co-hosts.
DeGeneres’ top-rated show will also compete for the Best Daytime Entertainment Show along with The View and The Rachael Ray Show when the Emmys are handed out on 10 June (08).

Actress CHRISTINA APPLEGATE has reunited with her skateboarder ex LEE GRIVAS, and moved him back in to her Hollywood home, according to reports.
The pair briefly dated after 36-year-old Applegate’s marriage to Johnathon Schaech ended in 2006, but they split soon after.
But they were photographed leaving a Los Angeles restaurant together last week (23Apr08), and now insiders claim the romance is back on.
A friend says, "Lee’s a simple guy and he took good care of Christina the first time around. And he’d love to make a baby with her - which is Christina’s number one priority right now." Applegate recently revealed her desire to become a mother: "That’s (motherhood) something I really need to get on soon, which is difficult in the current situation. I feel complete when I’m with babies and kids… If I end up doing it on my own, I don’t see anything wrong with that."

Funnyman TOM ARNOLD is getting serious after signing up to star in a new film based on the Columbine High School massacre.
Based on writer/director Andrew Robinson’s memories of the 1999 tragedy, which left 12 students and a teacher dead and 23 others wounded, April Showers also features Prom Night star Kelly Blatz and Spy Kids actor Daryl Sabara.
The film follows students at a Columbine-type school as they attempt to cope with the massacre. Arnold will play a popular teacher.
Filming on the movie begins next month (May08) in Omaha, Nebraska.

Rockers BON JOVI are set to join the ranks of SIMON & GARFUNKEL, GARTH BROOKS, DIANA ROSS and the DAVE MATTHEWS BAND by staging a concert in Central Park.
The band has decided not to end its current tour at Giants Stadium in its native New Jersey, as expected - and instead they’ll rock the Big Apple’s most famous park.
Frontman Jon Bon Jovi says, "We always end every tour at Giants Stadium, but we’re going to do Central Park this year." No date has been set for the show, but it’s likely to take place in July (08), after Bon Jovi’s concerts at the Sarnia Bayfest in Ontario, Canada and the Palace of Auburn Hills in Michigan on 6 and 7 July (08) respectively.
Bon Jovi are currently touring North America before setting off for dates in Europe next month (May08).

NEIL DIAMOND has great respect for the young wannabes he’s mentoring on AMERICAN IDOL this week (beg28Apr08) - because he wouldn’t have made it past the first round of the TV talent show.
The Sweet Caroline singer has been helping to coach the remaining finalists on the show as part of Idol’s Neil Diamond Week - but he would never have put himself through the audition process for the show.
He explains, "I would never have made it through the first round. My voice is strange and different. I would have been much too nervous.
"It took me years to feel comfortable in front of an audience and on stage.
"But these guys, they all pretty much blew me away. I was impressed by not only their singing ability, but their poise." Only four Idols will remain in the competition after one of the existing five contestants is voted off the show on Wednesday night (30Apr08).

RICHIE SAMBORA is set to replace BRET MICHAELS in the next season of TV dating show ROCK OF LOVE, according to reports.
Poison frontman Michaels recently wrapped season two when he chose wannabe actress Ambre Lake as the winner and his new girlfriend.

A videotape that allegedly shows ANGELINA JOLIE snorting and smoking heroin has been offered for sale - according to reports.
A source tells the National Enquirer the tape shows Jolie, before she was famous, taking drugs with friends.
The actress has admitted using hard drugs in the past. She once said, "I’ve done coke, heroin, ecstasy, LSD everything. I hate heroin because I’ve been fascinated with it. I’m not immune, but I won’t do it now, at all." But video proof could damage her career and reputation as a charity campaigner.
The Enquirer’s source claims the tape’s owner is seeking $70,000 (£35,000) for its sale - telling the tabloid, "It appears to be from the 1990s, right before Angelina - then in her 20s - was breaking out in films like Gia and Girl, Interrupted, which won her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
"The key part of the tape is Angelina doing heroin. She says, ‘Wow, this is really good smack - not that cheap crap that’s been stepped on.’ "Angelina is seen sniffing white lines from a plate, and then as the drug cooks on tinfoil, she deeply sucks in its smoke through a tube." Aussie star HUGH JACKMAN had to thank a paparazzi photographer for helping him find his lost son on a California beach.
The actor was relaxing in Malibu with kids Oscar, eight, Ava, two, when Oscar disappeared.
He tells the National Enquirer, "I’d sat down with my two kids, we were playing - and all of a sudden he’s gone. I’m freaking out. I start running down the beach, and I can see this guy running behind me. I turn around - and it’s a paparazzi.
"So I think ‘Oh, no. That’s all I need - I’ve lost my kid and this guy’s going to take pictures of me hysterical." But the snapper was actually his saviour: "(He said) ‘Hugh! Hugh! Listen mate, there’s your son. Over there.’ "I looked around and saw my little boy. That paparazzi (sic) was really child minding. I guess those guys do come in handy occasionally."

GEORGE CLOONEY’s girlfriend SARAH LARSON is turning down requests for more magazine interviews - because she values her privacy too much.

GWYNETH PALTROW refuses to bow to the celebrity trend of following a different religion each week - because she believes all creeds are ultimately similar.
The actress was raised in the Jewish faith because her late father, filmmaker Bruce Paltrow, descended from a Russian dynasty of rabbis.
But the Iron Man star insists the world’s religions aren’t too dissimilar, insisting their ultimate purpose is identical.
She tells Britain’s Heat magazine, "What I believe is that Mohammed and Jesus and Buddha and Shiva are all the exact same thing: an energy, our link to something larger than ourselves.
"I do believe there is something out there and you can channel that energy." And the star claims her husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, shares a similar belief.
She adds, "Although I don’t talk about my husband in interviews, I have heard him describe songwriting in that way."
