Actor JUDE LAW has paid tribute to Oscar-winning film director ANTHONY MINGHELLA who died on Tuesday (18Mar08).
The filmmaker - who won a Best Director Academy Award for 1996 film The English Patient - died aged 54 from a brain haemorrhage at London’s Charing Cross Hospital, where he had undergone a routine operation on his neck. Law - who starred in Minghella’s Oscar nominated movies The Talented Mr.
Ripley and Cold Mountain, and the 2006 movie Breaking And Entering - said he would miss the director "hugely".
He says, "(I’d) come to value him more as a friend than as a colleague.
"He was a brilliantly talented writer and director who wrote dialogue that was a joy to speak and then put it onto the screen in a way that always looked effortless. "He made work feel like fun. He was a sweet, warm, bright and funny man who was interested in everything from football to opera, films, music, literature, people and most of all his family."

ROLLING STONES rocker SIR MICK JAGGER wants to duet with R&B queen MARY J.
BLIGE.
The singing legend has performed with current chart-toppers Christina Aguilera and Amy Winehouse over the last year, and he reveals Blige is next on his list.
He tells Maxim, "I love Mary J. Blige. I know she’s done duets with U2 and everyone else, and I love her vocal style. She’s on my musical wish list." Jagger adds that he was blown away by Aguilera, who he sang Live With Me with for Martin Scorsese’s Rolling Stones movie Shine A Light.
He says, "Christina Aguilere is such a great singer, so I loved that. She was really on it. She delivers."

BRITNEY SPEARS has landed another TV spot just days after filming an episode of U.S. comedy HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER - on SOUTH PARK.
The pop singer will join Marilyn Manson and Tom Cruise among the stars who have been parodied on the cult cartoon series, when her likeness appears in an episode which airs in America on Wednesday (19Mar08).
In the hilarious episode, South Park regulars Stan and Kyle take on a mission to get troubled Spears to the North Pole.
In a news release, a spokesman for the show says, "Britney Spears is trying to get away from it all in the mountains near South Park when the boys have a run-in with her.
"Stan and Kyle get caught up in Britney’s celebrity and the never-ending feeding frenzy that follows her wherever she goes."

KYLIE MINOGUE made a career comeback after her battle with breast cancer to prove she still had talent. The singer was forced to cancel the remainder of her 2005 Show Girl tour and a performance at the U.K.’s Glastonbury festival after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
But the pop princess was determined to return to the studio to record new LP X to prove that she could still sing.
She tells Interview Magazine, "I wanted to know that I could still go into a studio and sing and perform, and thankfully all of that was like riding a bike, but actually easier, because with everything I’d been through, I felt quite liberated. And it was important for me to put some personal tracks in there, which I’ve done.

SPICE GIRL EMMA BUNTON is grateful for her son BEAU - because she feared she would never be able to conceive with her partner JADE JONES.
Before she became pregnant, the singer, 32, was diagnosed with endometriosis, a condition that can impair fertility.

Actress HALLE BERRY will encourage her new born daughter to learn about her father’s heritage by learning the language.
The Monster star, 41, gave birth to her first child in Los Angeles on Sunday (16Mar08).
And according to the family of her partner, French Canadian model Gabriel Aubry, Berry is keen to become a fluent speaker, so she can pass it on to her offspring.
Aubry’s sister Eugenie tells People.com, "It’s been a long time since we’ve had a new baby in the family. It’s very exciting.
"I’m a Quebecer, and it’s great that she is learning how to speak French. I’m glad that the little one will speak French, too."

Actress JAIME KING is adding comic book writer to her resume - she’s creating a new graphic novel with SIN CITY creator FRANK MILLER.
The 28-year-old starred in Sin City and leads the line-up for Miller’s directorial debut The Spirit - and she reveals the pair have been working on a collaboration.
She tells Maxim, "I’m actually writing a graphic novel that Frank Miller is helping me take to some big publishing companies. I love that medium."

The 1937 first edition of authour J.R.R. TOLKIEN’S THE HOBBIT has been sold for $120,000 (£60,000).
An annonymous bidder bought Tolkien’s most successful book at an auction on Tuesday (18Mar08) for double the expected price.
The Bonham’s auction also included the first foreign language edition of The Hobbit, translated into Swedish in 1947, which collected $3,120 (£1,560). The Hobbit was was a prequel to the Lord Of The Rings trilogy.

Recovering drug and alcohol addict COLIN FARRELL is struggling to stay sober and constantly fights the urge to down booze and pop pills.
The Hollywood star checked into rehab in 2005, fearing his addictions would kill him if he carried on his hedonistic lifestyle.
And while the Miami Vice star has been clean since, he frequently toys with the idea of indulging his passion for alcohol and narcotics for one night only.
However, Farrell - with the help of past experience - is fully aware one night of excess would quickly lead him back down the path of destruction.

And not just have a drink, I’d love to be able to pop some f**king OxyContin or some Percocet (both painkillers) and know that it’s not going to become a f**king habit. Australian musician AXLE WHITEHEAD has no regrets about exposing himself at the 2006 ARIA Music Awards - and has promised a repeat performance if he wins another award this year (08).
The former TV host flashed his penis on stage and simulated a sex act with a trophy at the event two years ago (06).
But he insists the incident will not stop him from stripping off if he wins another award at this year’s ceremony.

RONNIE WOOD’s wife JO fought off years of ridicule from the ROLLING STONES over her natural food obsession - only to discover the ageing rockers eat organic themselves.
Jo Wood - who changed her diet after suffering a health scare - was regularly mocked by guitarist Keith Richards over her fervent endorsement of wholesome food, and was stunned to learn his wife Patti Hanson was cooking him up organic meals daily.
And having converted all of the Stones to organic eaters, including Sir Mick Jagger and his former wife Jerry Hall, Jo is now turning her attention to Rod Stewart and his wife Penny Lancaster.
She says, "The Rolling Stones used to tease me when I preached to them. Keith Richards would say, ‘Jo, you’re addicted to organic food.’ That made me giggle.
But while he was taking the mickey out of me, his wife, Patti, was preparing him organic food.
"Jerry Hall and Mick Jagger eat organic now. After (drummer) Charlie Watts recovered from throat cancer, he really appreciated the health benefits too. I can’t wait to get my hands on Penny Lancaster and Rod Stewart."

Late Crocodile Hunter STEVE IRWIN’s widow TERRI denies reports she plans to sell his Australian zoo and return to her native U.S.
Terri says media reports claiming she plans to sell the zoo he founded on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast to US-based investors are untrue.
She says, "I’ll never leave. I love Australia and I’m doing my best to be a fair dinkum Aussie sheila and honour all of Steve’s work and yeah, I’ll be here the rest of my life.
"There have been so many rumours about so many things and I have no idea where they all come from but I can assure everyone that the conservation work that we’re doing in Australia will continue and will certainly have a global impact but we’re not leaving and we love Australia and everybody here." Irwin also plays down reports she hopes to turn the wildlife conservation site into a theme park.
She adds, "I don’t know about rides but there will sure be a lot more animals, more mega-fun and more hands-on experiences and we’ll remain the unique experience for zoological facilities and wildlife hospitals expanding, everything we’re doing is just going to get bigger and better." Irwin died in September 2006 when he was stabbed in the heart with a stingray barb.

Rapper BUSTA RHYMES has been sentenced to three years’ probation for assaulting a fan and his former driver.
The star - real name Trevor Smith - was accused of beating fan LeBron James on Randall’s Island, New York and his driver Eddie Hatchett in two separate incidents in 2006.
On Tuesday (19Mar08), Smith, 35, was also ordered to perform 10 days of community service, pay a $1,250 (£625) fine and court costs. Smith must also enrol in a drunken driving program. Following his conviction, Ryhmes says, "I have no trouble being a good dude because that’s what I am," adding he wanted to get back to "having fun, making music, running around and showing love."

LATEST: Funnyman ERIC IDLE’s mock BEATLES, THE RUTLES, performed live for the first time in Hollywood on Monday night (17Mar08).
Following a question-and-answer session at the Egyptian Theatre, which marked the first time the quartet had appeared together since making 1978 mockumentary All You Need Is Cash, Idle and bandmates Neil Innes, John Halsey and Ricky Fataar took to the stage at a VIP party.
The sold-out event was held to mark the 30th anniversary of the film, which the four-piece introduced at the beginning of the evening.
Celebrities who turned up to salute the mock rockers included Andy Summers, Jeff Lynne, Peter & Gordon star Peter Asher and The Simpsons regular Dan Castellaneta.
Asked about their ‘reunion’ after 30 years apart, Idle quipped, "This is the first time in history that a band has reunited before they have actually united in the first place!" There was a surprise in store for the Rutles - ‘reunion’ instigator and 30th anniversary celebration host Martin Lewis read out a message from Sir Mick Jagger.
Jagger appeared as himself throughout the original 1978 film and, in the closing scene of the film, he was asked if he thought the Rutles would ever reunite. His response: "Hope not!" Playing on that, Jagger sent the band the following message: "After all the on and off promises and cancelled shows, I can’t believe you have finally decided - at your great age - to defy all the odds and recreate your magnificent past. I wish I could be there. If only to laugh!"

British rockers RADIOHEAD are giving their fans the opportunity to make the music video for their next track.
The band made history last year (07) when they released their seventh LP, In Rainbows, online as a pay-what-you-want download.
And now the five-piece is teaming up with TBD Records, Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim and animation Web portal Aniboom.com to launch an online contest inviting fans to produce an animated music video for any song from the album.

Actor COLIN FARRELL will never star in a big budget movie again - because he’s sick of working for producers whose sole aim is to make money.
The Hollywood star - who spearheaded the blockbusters Alexander in 2004 and 2006’s Miami Vice - has learned from his "horses**t" experiences on mega-budget productions, and is adamant he’ll never be part of such a high-pressure working environment again.
He says, "If you are on a film such as Miami Vice or Alexander that has a budget that is healthily north of $100 million (£50 million) you can pretend that it’s all about the work but there’s a certain amount of pressure.
"You have decided to walk into a world where the most important thing is financial return and your are going to get a call on Saturday telling you what the Friday opening was. I’ve been on the receiving end of a couple of those calls and it’s horsesh**t. I don’t want to play in that world any more."

Newly single and wealthy HEATHER MILLS has fuelled speculation she plans to move to America, by recruiting celebrity lawyer GLORIA ALLRED to represent her in the U.S.
On Monday (17Mar08) Mills was awarded $33 million (£16.5 million) cash and assets worth $15.6 million (£7.8 million) in a divorce settlement with Sir Paul McCartney.
Allred - who has represented the family of O.J. Simpson’s murdered ex-wife Nicole and Britney Spears’ ex-bodyguard Tony Barretto - was on hand to issue a statement on behalf of the former model.
She tells New York gossip column PageSix.com, "Heather was delighted with the outcome today. It was about justice. Heather was a winner before she met Paul, and she will continue to be a winner. I admire Heather for her charity work." Mills is rumoured to be looking for TV work in the U.S. She has guest-hosted for talk show star Larry King in the past, and appeared on Dancing With the Stars last year (07).

WILL SMITH has hit back at claims he and his wife JADA PINKETT SMITH have been recruited by the Church of Scientology.
Recent reports claimed the couple had started following the controversial faith, on the advice of close pals Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.
But Smith insists he chooses to study religions, without subscribing to any one.
He says, "You don’t have to be Jewish to be a friend of Steven Spielberg. You don’t have to be a Muslim to be a friend of Muhammad Ali. And you don’t have to be a Scientologist to be a friend of Tom Cruise. I am a Christian. I am a student of all religions. And I respect all people and all paths." A spokesman for Smith adds, "As Will Smith’s publicist I can tell you with 100 per cent certainty that Will is not a Scientologist."
