BRITNEY SPEARS is "having a blast" in her latest incarnation as a sitcom actress.
The troubled pop star has landed a cameo role in hit show How I Met Your Mother on U.S. cable channel CBS, which she is shooting in Los Angeles this week (begs10Mar08).
Spears plays a secretary called Abby who falls for the show’s lead character Ted (played by Josh Radnor).
When reporters caught up with the star leaving the CBS lot on Wednesday night (12Mar08), she said, "(The experience) has been so terrific. Everyone, including the cast, the crew and the producers, has been wonderful.
"Abby is such a fun girl to play. I’m having a blast!"

BRAD PITT knew his marriage to JENNIFER ANISTON was in trouble just six weeks after they wed, according to a British comedian who claims to have been the actor’s confidante on the set of movie SPY GAME.
The Mr. & Mrs Smith star split from Aniston in 2005 after a five-year union but funnyman Omid Djalili alleges Pitt opened up to him about his fears for his doomed marriage shortly after their wedding day.
Djalili tells U.K. newspaper The Daily Express, "I did a scene with him in the back of a taxi for a movie called Spy Game and it was only a few days after he had married Jennifer.
"I chatted for hours giving him advice about the three stages of marriage.
Stage one is perfection/blind love.
"Stage two is the difficult stage because you will start to despise everything about her. But then if you can deal with that baggage you can possibly get to stage three - accept the baggage and move into a harmonious marriage.
"He said: ‘Thanks Omid, I love that you have given me a framework for my marriage.’ "After six weeks he came up to me and said: ‘I’m definitely in stage two, Omid!’ I probably made it go up in flames!"

GOOD CHARLOTTE rocker BENJI MADDEN is so besotted with socialite PARIS HILTON, he has reportedly forfeited a charity DJ appearance to go clubbing with his new beau.
The guitarist had been booked to DJ at Prive Las Vegas last Saturday (08Mar08) night, with his payment going to his twin brother Joel and his girlfriend Nicole Richie’s charity for disadvantaged kids, the Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation.
The terms of the deal stated he was not to appear at any other nightclub 24 hours before Saturday’s event - but Madden followed party-loving Hilton to a number of different clubs on Friday (07Mar08) night because he just couldn’t bring himself to be parted from her.
Explaining his decision to celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, he says, "I feel awful, but I didn’t know what to do. I’m crazy about this girl."

JAKE GYLLENHAAL is wearing a chunky ankle support after suffering a sporting injury.
The actor was recently spotted out and about in Santa Monica, California, with girlfriend Reese Witherspoon - and limping while wearing the plastic hospital boot.
But Gyllenhaal’s representative insists his injury isn’t severe, telling PageSix.com, " It’s just a minor thing, he sprained his ankle playing basketball."

French singer/actress VANESSA PARADIS is set to make her first English-language movie - she’s been cast alongside MICHAEL MADSEN in THE MIDWIFE CRISIS.
Paradis, the longterm partner of Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp, has made only a handful of forays into the acting industry since winning a Cesar Award for 1989 film Noce Blanche (A White Wedding).
Shooting on the film is due to start in New York in September (08), but The Midwife Crisis director Mabrouk el Mechri warns it won’t be your average romantic comedy.
He tells the Hollywood Reporter, "It’s not your typical cheesy romantic comedy. It’s not Hugh Grant.
"I don’t want to film New York like a tourist. No squirrels in Union Square, no zooming in from the Empire State Building to a close-up of Vanessa Paradis."

Actress ANNA FRIEL has slammed her native Britain for holding back her career because the media still associates with her stint on U.K. soap opera BROOKSIDE.
Friel, who has found fame Stateside on hit U.S. series Pushing Daisies, finished her two-year run on Brookside in 1995 - but states the British press still bombard her with questions about the now obsolete series.
The 31-year-old played the role of lesbian Beth Jordache in the show, who killed her abusive father and buried his body in the garden.
She explains, "It was getting to be a joke here (in the U.K.). Even when I was 80 (sic), my epitaph would be, ‘Brookside. Used to be in a TV soap.’ How long ago is it now? Thirteen years.
But Friel insists she doesn’t regret her time on the series: "I’m not embarrassed about any aspect of my life or past. It’s just really boring people talking about the same things. I just think it’s time to let it go.
Otherwise, the last 13 years have been for nothing.
"I do feel it’s a bit of a shame, though, that it had to happen in America rather than here. I wouldn’t say I’ve reinvented myself but, in America, they just take me in a different way."

LATEST: SCARLETT JOHANSSON has helped raise thousands at a charity auction one lucky fan has won the chance to accompany her to a future movie premiere after entering the final bid of $40,100 (£20,050).
The online auction site eBay.com was visited by 695,183 interested parties and received 170 bids for the date.
But the 10-day sale ended on Wednesday (12Mar08) - and a U.K-based user named bossnour was slated as the top bidder.
The fortunate fan will accompany the star to the premiere of her forthcoming movie He’s Just Not That Into You in Los Angeles in June next year (09).
All proceeds from the Auction Cause sale will go to charity Oxfam.
The Lost In Translation star isn’t the only star who has offered themselves up for auction for Oxfam; George Clooney is also looking for a date to attend the premiere of his new film Leatherheads, while Minnie Driver is auctioning off a $100,000 (£50,000) lunch date as part of an initiative between the actress’ hit U.S. TV show The Riches and Oxfam America.

LATEST: Comedian BILLY CRYSTAL’s debut as a baseball professional ended in failure on Thursday (13Mar08) - he was struck out without hitting the ball.
The actor and lifelong fan of the New York Yankees was signed up by the team to play in a pre-season exhibition match against the Pittsburgh Pirates - an event to also mark his 60th birthday on Friday (14Mar08).
Crystal trained with the team in Tampa, Florida, and turned out to hit wearing a shirt with the number 60 on the back.
But the City Slickers star was left swiping at thin air and struck out.
Crystal, who was cheered on in the stands by pal Robin Williams, said ahead of the game, "I’ve been waiting 50 years for this call. I’m overwhelmed by the generosity of the Yankees and commissioner Bud Selig. I know this’ll be tougher than the Broadway Softball League, but I’m looking forward to helping the younger players, which by the way is all of them."

RENEE ZELLWEGER has a great idea for a third BRIDGET JONES’S DIARY movie, and will play the singleton on the big screen again - as long as she doesn’t have to pile on the weight.
The actress has padded out to play Helen Fielding’s literary heroine in two movies to date, winning over cinema audiences and critics alike with her portrayal of the unlucky-in-love Brit.
It has been four years since the last film Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason - but Zellweger hasn’t ruled out a return.
She says, "If it works into my life and it’s worthwhile and interesting. It depends on there being another book, of course. I would love to read how she’s been. Actually, I would love her to go to L.A. and have a baby." But she says of the weight issue: "I had a panic attack with all the specialists talking about how bad this is for you long-term, putting on that much weight in short periods of time. The health professionals were warning me about not continuing the project any further.
"(It was) absolutely horrible (losing the weight). The first lap around the track, I felt like I had a small toddler attached to my back."

Legendary soul star ARETHA FRANKLIN is in danger of losing her Detroit, Michigan home to debt collectors after an attorney’s error left her owing more than $19,000 (£9,500) in tax for the property.
The R.E.S.P.E.C.T. diva is accused of falling behind on a $445 (£890) payment for taxes and late fees in 2005, with reports suggesting she owes a total of $19,192 (£9,596) in back taxes on the house up until 2007.
But Aretha blames her lawyer for the mistake and claims she will pay up by the 31 March (08) deadline to prevent the house from slipping into foreclosure.
According to FoxNews.com, a spokesman for the Wayne County treasurer’s office has confirmed the foreclosure judgment for $445 was entered earlier this month (Mar08).
However, any foreclosure proceedings will not begin until 2009.

LATEST: The cast and crew of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER have been forced to wear wristbands on the U.S. sitcom’s set while BRITNEY SPEARS is filming her cameo role - to prevent passers-by from snapping the singer at the studio.
The show’s star Neil Patrick Harris was mistakenly refused entry to the stage - because he wasn’t wearing one of the exclusive bands security officials issued to keep civilians out.
Harris tells Eonline.com, "It’s been great. We’re required to wear wristbands all day. It keeps meddling blogger friends from just strolling on to set to snap camera-phone pics. They have different wristbands every day, and it’s like the ultimate after-party.
"I wasn’t given a wristband, because I’m on the show, but then they swapped out security people and they wouldn’t let me on the stage because I didn’t have the proper wristband. We had words. I did eventually make it on set, because I just kept going through.
"But there were lots of ‘Hey, hey - I need to see your wristband,’ and I said, ‘Lady, I’m actually on the show, so I don’t have a wristband.’ That’s the kind of excitement there is on Stage 22 right now, mid-Britney." The show featuring the troubled star is set to be aired on 24 March (08) on U.S. cable channel CBS.

JACKASS star STEVE-O is on suicide watch in a Los Angeles hospital after threatening to kill himself, according to American magazine the Star.
A source close to the 33-year-old stuntman has told the tabloid Steve-O, real name Stephen Glover, was taken to the city’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Sunday (09Mar08) after he allegedly emailed 33 suicide notes to friends.
After reportedly causing a scene in the emergency room, doctors carried out drugs tests before admitting Steve-O to the Thalians Mental Health Center and placing him on a 72-hour hold - meaning they have reason to believe he is a harm to himself or others.
That has since been extended to 14 days, according to the Star.
The source tells the publication, "Steve is stabilised on meds at this point.
He was also treated for burns on his skin as if he had been putting cigarettes out on his own body." A family member is quoted telling the publication that Steve-O suffers from bipolar disorder, adding, "Right now he’s in his extreme mania. His concerned friends and family are hoping he’ll seek treatment." A spokeswoman for Steve-O’s agent Adam Sher said, "He doesn’t offer press comments about his clients."

Oscar-winner CHARLIZE THERON treats her acting career as one big therapy session, to help her deal with demons from her past.
The actress suffered a traumatic youth - when she was 15 years old she witnessed her mother shoot dead her abusive father in self-defence.
Fiction mimics reality in Theron’s new movie Sleepwalking, in which she plays a mother forced to bring up her daughter alone after her partner abandons her.
But the 32-year-old claims she uses painful film roles to help her heal, stating the dramatic parts act like a session with a psychiatrist.
She explains, "I am incredibly lucky. I get to do a job which is very cathartic. People go to therapy because we are mechanically inclined to not want to deal with emotion or trauma. Anything that’s not pretty. That’s what we do.
"I get to go to therapy in my work. I go to some very dark places, and I think it’s healthy to do that."

Pregnant HALLE BERRY still has no desire to make her relationship with longterm boyfriend GABRIEL AUBRY official - because she already feels "more married" than ever before.

Pop star BRITNEY SPEARS has reportedly been offered a staggering $4 million (£2 million) to perform just one song - to a group of rich sheikhs in Dubai.
The troubled singer - who’s currently on a $1,500 (£750)-per-week debit card allowance following her public meltdown - has been approached by Pakistani Sheeraz Hasan, founder of celebrity website hollywood.tv, to perform her raunchy tune I’m A Slave 4 U to an elite audience in the Middle East.
The one-song performance would net her $4 million - as well as luxury accommodation on her own private island for the duration of her trip, reports British newspaper the Daily Star.
Hasan claims he’s already secured a deal with hotel heiress Paris Hilton to visit the Arabs - and Spears is his next target.
He says, "I’m going to take Paris Hilton to Dubai - the sheikhs said any amount of money she wants is fine - and next I’m going to take Britney.
"Everything Britney does is news - Britney pumps gas, Britney forgets to put milk in her coffee."

Actor CHAD LOWE has been hailed a hero after rescuing a dying dog.
The 24 star and ex-husband of Oscar winner Hilary Swank was surfing on a Malibu, California beach earlier this month (2Mar08) when he spotted a woman struggling with her pet, which had collapsed and was lying motionless on rocks.
The animal became dehydrated after a long walk and drank sea water, which made it more sick.
A source tells the U.S. tabloid National Enquirer, "Chad was just coming out of the surf when he spotted the woman, who was clearly distressed because of her dog. He sprang into action and rounded up a few other guys to help him put this huge German shepherd mix onto his surfboard, which they used as a stretcher.
"She was so grateful and thanked Chad for saving her dog’s life."
