BACHCHAN EMBARRASSED BY HIS ICONIC STATUS
Bollywood star AMITABH BACHCHAN finds his status as an icon in his home country "embarrassing".
The actor has been honoured by columnist and film critic Anil Dharker, who has named him one of India’s top 20 icons in his new book, Icons: Men & Women Who Shaped Today’s India.
But Bachchan insists he has trouble accepting such an accolade.
He says, "I find it embarrassing to be one of the 20 icons. I shouldn’t be there." However, author Dharker is adamant India’s admiration of Bachchan is justified: "Amitabh is just being modest. Humility is important and it comes from knowing that you have achieved a lot but there is so much more to achieve.
And the icons know that."
