Troubled pop princess BRITNEY SPEARS has spent $2,000 (£1,000) having a Hebrew healing tattoo laser-removed from the nape of her neck.
Spears had the letters etched in 2004, after spending time with Kabbalah devotee Madonna.
The Toxic singer studied the offshoot of Judaism and even contemplated joining other celebrity followers including Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher.
Spears had the mark of Mem, Hey and Shin inked on the back of her neck as a symbol of healing. According to experts, the combination of letters evokes the consciousness of healing.
The tattoo suggested Spears was taking responsibility for everything in her life and accepting she can heal herself in all ways.
Four years on, her career is in trouble, she has two failed marriages behind her and she’s battling for visitation rights to her two sons, after losing custody of Sean Preston and Jayden James to ex-husband Kevin Federline.
Friends say Spears had the tattoo removed to show the world she can’t cope.
A pal says, "When she got the tattoo, Britney was in control of her life and her career. The whole world can see she’s lost control, and the tattoo made her feel like a hypocrite."

JIM CARREY wowed the 12 AMERICAN IDOL finalists live on Wednesday (12Mar08) by dressing up as an elephant and then joining the nervous wannabes onstage as they awaited their fate on results night.
Carrey was promoting his new movie Horton Hears A Who?, in which he voices a curious elephant, and joked he sometimes finds it hard to shake a character he plays.
He added, "I’ve lost a lot of weight." Carrey then pretended to be among those fighting for survival on the hit talent show, sitting among the 12 finalists and nervously regretting a fictional song choice.

LL COOL J is urging young single-parent black men to seek out father figures or risk facing a gang life of crime.
The rapper insists reconnecting with his estranged father when his career was taking off helped him avoid the pitfalls of fame and adolescence, and he’s convinced that fatherless teens are more likely to fall into gangs if they don’t have a man in their family life.
LL Cool J tells Sister 2 Sister magazine, "In black culture in general, in African-American culture, the least discussed thing amongst men is the fact that they really wish they had fathers.
"There’s a lot of single black women who did the best that they could and that’s a beautiful thing, but they don’t know how necessary a father is in a kid’s life and how much guys miss that deep down inside.
"That’s why they gravitate towards gangs. That’s why they gravitate toward older guys who may lead them in a negative direction, because they just want to be embraced by a man."

The world’s favourite puppets, THE MUPPETS, are making a return to the big screen.
The colourful characters, who were created by puppeteer Jim Henson’s workshop, made their debut on U.S. TV show Sesame Street in 1969. They have starred in seven movies to date, the most recent being 1999’s Muppets From Space.
Now actor/writer Jason Segal and director/writer Nick Stoller are penning a screenplay for a new film to be released by Disney.
Stoller is set to direct the currently-untitled project.

A GEORGE CLOONEY ‘date’ auction has been pulled from website eBay.com after a charity mix-up.
Auction Charity bosses had set up the chance to accompany Clooney to his Leatherheads premiere in Los Angeles on 31 March (08) in an effort to raise cash for the Boys & Girls Club Of America.
But the item was not as advertised to them, and Clooney had never agreed to walk the red carpet with the winning bidder.
The auction was scheduled to go live on Thursday morning (13Mar08), but it will no longer go ahead.
An Auction Cause spokesman says, "It was all a big misunderstanding. We’ve contacted George Clooney’s representative and apologised."

LATEST: The businessman at the centre of BRITNEY SPEARS’ bid to fund future ventures with Middle East millions has slammed reports he has booked the pop superstar to dance for super rich sheikhs - for $4 million (£2 million).
Hollywood.tv founder Sheeraz Hasan was named as the brains behind a bid to land Spears a one-off erotic dancing gig in Dubai, but he insists his plans to take the Toxic singer on a lucrative business trip to the Middle East had nothing to do with such a sleazy performance.
Angry Hasan says, "I spoke to Britney over the phone and discussed taking her to Dubai. She has a movie script, a TV project, a hotel and nightclub venture and she was seeking funding.
"I had a group of people who would help her finance these projects.
"She was very excited. We were about to take her to Dubai a week before she went into hospital in February (08).
"She is not going to Dubai to dance erotically for $4 million. It’s completely false." And Hasan also takes issue with the racist undertone of the article, published in British newspaper the Daily Star.
He adds, "I take great offence to the fact Muslims are referred to as ‘hairy old men’ with ‘golden teeth and burnt toes’ in the article.
"The guys I do business with are all clean-cut billionaires. They mean business. When Britney gets to Dubai she will be meeting some of the world’s greatest business minds." Hasan reveals he is seeking legal counsel and is considering suing the publication.

LATEST: Troubled JACKASS star STEVE-O has been charged with felony possession of cocaine.
The 33-year-old - real name Stephen Glover - was arrested on 3 March (08) on suspicion of vandalising his neighbours’ property in Los Angeles. Police responding reportedly found him with cocaine.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney has now charged the prankster with possession of the illegal drug, according to website TMZ.com.
The news comes after Steve-O was taken to L.A.’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Sunday (09Mar08) following a reported cry for help - the funnyman allegedly emailed 33 suicide notes to friends.
Steve-O was later admitted to the Thalians Mental Health Center, where doctors placed him on a 72-hour hold. That has since been extended to 14 days, according to American magazine Star.

Action star JACKIE CHAN has paid tribute to his late parents by opening a science education centre at an Australian cancer research clinic.
The Rush Hour star’s father Charlie, who lived Down Under for more than 40 years, died in a Hong Kong hospital on 26 February (08) after battling prostate cancer. He was 93.
After laying his dad to rest beside his mother Lee Lee Chan in Canberra on Saturday (07Mar08), the actor and Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd officially opened the Jackie Chan Science Centre at the Australian National University on Sunday (08Mar08).
Chan said, "My father passed away last week. So it is about time I did something for Canberra to remember my parents. I really thank you Australia and Canberra for taking care of my parents for 46 years." Although officials at the Australian National University refused to disclose how much Chan donated to cancer research, a spokesman confirmed the monetary gift was "substantial".

Actor TERRENCE HOWARD has landed a record deal and will release his debut album later this year (08).
Howard, who was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for his role as a pimp-turned-rapper in 2005 movie Hustle & Flow, has signed with Columbia Records.
A label representative says, "The full name (of the project) is Terrence Howard Presents Me And The Band of Kings." The disc is due to hit stores this autumn.

Country guitarist BARRY ‘BYRD’ BURTON has died following a lengthy battle with leukaemia. He was 61.
Burton passed away in a Nashville, Tennessee hospital on Monday (10Mar08).
He is best known for his work with stars including Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Dan Fogelberg, Crystal Gale and The Oak Ridge Boys.
Burton was also a member of The Amazing Rhythm Aces, who won a Grammy Award for their 1975 hit single Third Rate Romance.
Over the course of his career, he won four American Society Of Composers, Authors And Publishers (ASCAP) Awards.
A memorial service will be held in Hendersonville, Tennessee on Saturday (15Mar08).

Singer/songwriter SARA BAREILLES is to receive the Vanguard Award at the 25th Annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards in Hollywood next month (09Apr08).

LATEST: Rapper THE GAME has confirmed he did secure an early release from jail last weekend (08/09Mar08).
The Dream hitmaker, real name Jayceon Taylor, was first reported to have been freed on Monday (10Mar08) after serving just eight days of a 60-day sentence, after pleading guilty to felony gun charges relating to an incident at a basketball game in 2007.
On Tuesday (11Mar08), his manager Jimmy ‘Henchman’ Rosemond denied The Game had been released, insisting he was simply being transferred to a different prison.
But now the star has admitted his management deliberately created confusion surrounding his release.
In a statement, The Game says: "I apologise for the conflicting news on my release, but, due to the sensitive negotiations on this matter, I felt it appropriate not to give an exact date on my release.
"I am truly grateful to my attorney, family and management for doing a great job in this respect.
"Upon my release I went directly to the studio with producers Cool & Dre and recorded several records, including my street record Big Dreams. Thank you to all my fans as well for the support." As per the terms of his plea agreement, the 28-year-old still has to complete 150 hours of community service and is on probation for three years.

NINE INCH NAILS star TRENT REZNOR has become a rich man after netting $1.6 million (£800,000) from first-week sales of his new online venture.
The rocker released his new instrumental album Ghosts I-IV in cyberspace and 800,000 fans paid anything from $1 to full price and beyond to download the tracks.
The $1.6 million windfall also includes online orders for album-related products like limited-edition vinyl releases, CDs, and a dual-CD box set.
Ghosts I-IV will be released in record stores next month (Apr08).

New dad MARC ANTHONY has left his newborn twins at home with their mother JENNIFER LOPEZ for the first time, to attend a police foundation gala in New York.
The singer supported the NYPD and commissioner Ray Kelly at the event at New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel on Tuesday (11Mar08), to return a favour.
He tells the New York Post, "I’m a life-long New Yorker. I’ve always worked for the NYPD and done fundraisers for fallen police officers.
"Five years ago Ray Kelly helped me organise a Hispanic presentation. So when he called last week and invited me - even though I’m a little busy with our babies - I came. This is my first time out of the house since the babies came." Lopez gave birth to babies Max and Emme on 22 February (08).

MICHAEL JACKSON has signed a deal to save his Neverland Ranch home from being sold at a public auction.
The California estate was scheduled to be sold off if Jackson failed to pay $24.5 million (£12.25 million) he owed in property taxes by 19 March (08).
With less than a week to go, the superstar has agreed a deal with an investment group that will allow him to retain ownership.
Jackson’s lawyer L. Londell McMillan tells PageSix.com, "Neverland and MJ are fine." Details of the agreement with the Fortress Investment Group are confidential.

Rapper SNOOP DOGG is stunned to find his kids cashing in on the fame his reality TV show SNOOP DOGG’S FATHERHOOD has granted them.
The superstar appears in the E! network show with wife Shante, and their three children 13-year-old Corde, Cordell, 11, and Cori, seven.
And he’s not entirely happy with the effect instant fame has had on his young offspring.
