LATEST: R&B star RIHANNA’s plea to help find a bone marrow donor for a New York woman suffering from leukaemia has been a success - the mum-of-two has found a match.
The Umbrella star joined forces with DKMS - the world’s largest non-profit marrow donor centre last month (Feb08) - to encourage people to help save the lives of others.
Rihanna was particularly moved by the desperate plight of 41-year-old Lisa Gershowitz Flynn and issued a special appeal for potential donors to get in touch with DKMS.
And the singer’s input has been invaluable for Flynn - she’s found a suitable bone marrow donor from the 5,000 volunteers who came forward after the star’s appeal, reports People.com.
In an email to her supporters written on Thursday (06Mar08), Flynn says, "Today a 32-year-old guardian angel consented to be my donor, even though in all likelihood she has never met me and does not know who I am.
"While we cannot verify the source of the donor, this angel was most likely found through the efforts of my family and friends, as well as complete strangers who heard about my story and took it upon themselves to aid in the effort to find a donor." And Flynn, who is now awaiting the transplant operation, hopes her story will spur others on to register as donors.
She adds, "My life will be saved because of you, my family and friends (old and new)…
"The English language does not have words that are adequate to thank someone for working to save your life. Please continue to spread the word about how important it is to fill the bone marrow registry with donors to save others.

Rapper SNOOP DOGG must reach a settlement with his former label Priority Records within the next three weeks - or the unpaid royalties case will go to trial, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge has ruled.
The Signs hitmaker - real name Cordozar Calvin Broadus - filed suit against the label in 2006, accusing Priority Records of failing to pay up $2 million (£1 million) in outstanding royalties.
He also claimed he had yet to receive a $950,000 (£475,000) advance for his 2000 album Tha Last Meal, while Priority failed to consult him over the greatest hits LP The Best of Snoop Dogg, which they released without his consent in October 2005.
The two parties have both revealed they are close to reaching an agreement over the allegedly overdue payments, but needed more time to resolve all issues.
However, at a court hearing on Thursday (06Mar08), Judge Helen I. Bendix set a deadline of 26 March (08) for any settlement to be reached.
If Snoop and Priority still disagree by that date, Bendix will either set a trial date or refer the case to the Superior Court’s Alternative Dispute Resolution programme.
Snoop Dogg is now signed to Geffen/Interscope Records.

When asked on Boston, Massachusetts radio station JAM’N 94.5 about the most famous celebrity he’s ever smoked marijuana with, he replied, "Bruce Willis.

Hollywood actor WILL SMITH and his wife JADA PINKETT SMITH have been tapped to host NELSON MANDELA’s 90th birthday celebrations in London this summer (08).
The former president of South Africa is to celebrate his special day with a big charity concert at the capital’s Hyde Park on 27 June - and he’s called on the Hollywood couple to take charge of the star-studded event, according to British newspaper The Sun.
Queen stars Brian May and Roger Taylor, Annie Lennox and British rockers Keane are among the acts who have already signed up for the gig, while U2, the Spice Girls and Sir Paul McCartney have also been approached to take part in the celebrations.
The Spice Girls recently offered to reunite for a final one-off performance especially for Mandela, with Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell saying: "He’s just an example of strength and humility and if we could be part of that, celebrating his life - wow."

BRITNEY SPEARS has sparked new rumours she is expecting her on/off boyfriend ADNAN GHALIB’s baby after she was seen sporting a bulging belly while out shopping in Los Angeles.
The pop star has been dogged by reports she is pregnant with her third child since the couple were spotted buying pregnancy tests in January (08).

LEONARDO DiCAPRIO is reportedly set to welcome a stepfather into his life - his manager mother has found love again with her school sweetheart.
The Titanic star’s mum, Irmelin, lost touch with Klaus Teigeler in the 1950s when she moved to the U.S. with her parents, while he remained in their native Germany.
But the pair reconnected late last year (07) when 64-year-old Irmelin was visiting her mother in Ruhr, Germany.
After their chance meeting, the couple has grown increasingly close and Teigeler, also 64, even accompanied Irmelin to Sir Elton John’s post-Oscar’s party in Los Angeles in February (08).
And now friends claim there is talk of a wedding.

Troubled GREASE star JEFF CONAWAY is planning a second stint on hard-hitting U.S. reality show CELEBRITY REHAB, despite quitting the programme days before completing his televised treatment.
The actor - who played Kenickie in the iconic 1978 musical movie - was struggling with severe cocaine, painkiller and alcohol addictions when he signed up to appear with other fallen stars on psychologist Dr. Drew Pinsky’s TV experiment.
He quit the programme early when the facility which housed himself and others, like fellow actor Daniel Baldwin, reportedly ran out of the pain medication he needed.
But Conaway isn’t opposed to returning to Celebrity Rehab for a planned second season.
He says, "It’s not over, I’m gonna go back in." The actor admits he no longer feels like a suicidal lost cause, thanks to Dr.
Pinsky’s treatment, and help from former Grease costar John Travolta, who has come to his aid since his rehab stint.
Conaway insists the recent death of his mother made him realise how far he has come: "I miss her a lot, but I didn’t go back to using over that." The fallen star admits he still needs to work on his painkiller addiction and that’s why he’d like to return to Celebrity Rehab.

Supermodel GISELE BUNDCHEN has dismissed rumours she is to produce a special fashion line for Dolce & Gabbana.
The Brazilian beauty, who is the face of the label’s perfume, The One, was alleged to be working on an exclusive collection of clothes and accessories for the Italian fashion house for the self-titled Bundchen By Dolce & Gabbana collection.
Further reports in February (08) claim the label was due to celebrate the spring (08) launch with parties in cities across the world, including Rome, New York, London, Paris, and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
But Bundchen insists Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have "no need" for her help in designing clothes, reports TheCelebrityTruth.com.
In a statement issued via her modeling agency IMG models, she says, "I am surprised and flattered by the news that there was a party being planned in honour of a collaboration with Domenico and Stefano.
"(I am) surprised, certainly, as no such line is in development. They are two of the most talented designers in the world and are in no way in need of my help to complement their collections.
"I have been so grateful to participate in their campaigns and runway shows and look forward to a continued relationship with them in this capacity."

The former butler of DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES, has refused to return to the U.K. to explain why he apparently lied while giving evidence under oath at the inquest into the British royal’s death.
Paul Burrell - who was allegedly the Princess’ closest confidante - was caught out on videotape footage obtained by British tabloid The Sun last month (Feb08), in which he confesses to lying and holding back information from the inquest’s coroner, Lord Justice Scott Baker, during his testimonies at London’s High Court.
He said: "I was very naughty… I know you shouldn’t play with justice and I know it’s illegal and I realise how serious it is…" Lord Baker has since issued an order for Burrell to reappear in court - but the coroner is unable to summon the ex-butler back from the U.S., where he is currently in hiding, to answer his questions.
However, Burrell has written to Lord Baker claiming he did tell the truth in his testimony - and was lying in the video in his desperate bid to impress his friend Paul Khullar while they were in New York.
And he blamed his behaviour on the amount of alcohol he had had that night, when he downed whiskey, wine, champagne and cocktails.
In the letter, which was read out to the High Court on Thursday (06Mar08), he says: "I was just trying to impress him. At no time did I mislead the inquest." But Lord Baker is outraged by Burrell’s refusal to return and answer his questions in person: "The purpose was for him to explain the alleged inconsistencies between what he said in evidence and what he said on the occasion referred to in The Sun." If Burrell does return to his native Britain, he could face a police inquiry for perjury - a crime which carries a 10-year jail sentence if he is found guilty.

PATRICK SWAYZE has been ordered by his doctors to quit smoking or risk losing his battle against pancreatic cancer.
Reports the Dirty Dancing star was suffering from the disease surfaced on Wednesday (05Mar08) and were later confirmed by his publicist.
But the actor, who is reported to have been diagnosed with the illness in January (08), has so far failed to kick his nicotine addiction.
Swayze once confessed to being such a heavy smoker, he blazed his way through more than three packs of cigarettes a day.

REESE WITHERSPOON had to scrap a motorcycle-riding scene in new movie PENELOPE, because she was too short to reach the scooter’s foot-rest.
The Oscar winner was left red-faced when her feet were left swinging, even after props workers had strapped wooden blocks to her feet.
In the end, director Mark Palansky abandoned plans for Witherspoon to ride the scooter, and had her two-wheeler pulled along by a rope instead.
The actress says, "I was height-challenged. And I was a little embarrassed."

Rowland fuelled speculation she’d had a boob job when photographers caught the now-busty singer on the beach in Miami, Florida last month (Feb08), wearing the same purple bikini that made her look flat-chested in August 2007.
And now Rowland has admitted she decided to go under the knife because she was fed up with her clothes not fitting her properly.
