Director BRIAN DE PALMA’s montage of Iraq war casualties was censored in new movie REDACTED on the insistence of insurance companies, who feared relatives of the victims would sue the movie-makers.
The veteran director’s anti-war film initially ended with a harrowing photo collection of real life fatalities, which De Palma hoped would help convey the true horrors of the conflict - which are largely ignored by the American media.
However, the identities of the victims have been disguised in the final cut of the film-maker’s moving montage - over concerns a relative would watch the movie and file suit against the producers.
He tells British magazine Empire, "The insurance companies (didn’t want their faces shown). They think that a relative of a dead baby will see the movie in the theatre and be so distressed that they’ll bring a lawsuit against us."

QUINCY JONES’ actress daughter RASHIDA has suffered racism throughout her life, because she is mixed-race.
The 32-year-old has a black father and a white Jewish mother - actress Peggy Lipton.
And Jones claims her looks have alienated her from black and white social groups - particularly at Harvard University, where she was turned away from an all-black sorority.
She says, "I definitely learned my lesson. I’m back to that place were I’m like, ‘You know what? I’m black, I’m white, I’m Jewish, I’m Irish, I’m Portuguese, I’m Welsh, what the f**k ever.’ To me it’s so inconsequential.
"People still say things to me like, ‘Oh my god, you’re black? I would’ve never guessed that.’ And I just think, I can’t help your ignorance. There are bi-racial people who look like me or who look like Alicia Keys or who look like Halle Berry. I’m so proud to be so many things."

JOHN LENNON’s former girlfriend MAY PANG has spoken of her relationship with the "real Lennon" as she releases a collection of intimate snaps of the former BEATLE.
Pang began an 18-month fling with Lennon in 1973, while he was separated from wife Yoko Ono.
After keeping them under wraps for 35 years, Pang is sharing her personal snaps of life with Lennon and a collection of his private sketches, in new book Instamatic Karma, which hits bookstores on Tuesday (04Mar08).
Pang says, "They were literally in a shoebox under my bed. A friend of mine said, ‘You’ve got to get this out. People have got to see the John that you saw.’ "So this is an intimate portrait of our lives together. You’re seeing him through my eyes."

Boy band svengali LOU PEARLMAN has been ordered by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to sell his house and its contents.
The 53-year-old former manager of Backstreet Boys and ‘N Sync is currently in jail after being indicted on three counts of bank fraud and separate counts of mail and wire fraud.
Pearlman’s Florida home is set to go under the hammer at auction on Saturday (08Mar08). Earlier this week (begs03Mar08), Pearlman reached a deal with prosecutors, after retracting his proclamation of innocence in a desperate bid to minimise any potential jail time.
As part of the plea deal, Pearlman has agreed to work with federal agents to recover as much of the $300 million (£150 million) he is accused of stealing from investors. He is also suspected of defrauding another $100 million (£50 million) from banks.
Pearlman is expected to enter the new plea at an Orlando, Florida court hearing on Thursday (06Mar08).
Prior to changing his plea, Pearlman faced 130 years in prison and a $3 million (£1.5 million) fine if convicted of all charges in the federal indictment.

A representative for ASHLEE SIMPSON has denied claims the star was drunk during a radio interview on Tuesday (04Mar08) - insisting she was "simply just tired".
The 23-year-old appeared on Washington D.C.’s Hot 99.5 Kane In The Morning show, but attracted attention because she appeared to have trouble speaking and slurred her words.
But her spokesperson is adamant Simpson’s behaviour was due to her busy promotional schedule.

Actress JAMIE LEE CURTIS has teamed up with the makers of Activia yogurt for a new advertising campaign - and insists she is happy to be "the ice breaker" for open discussions on digestive health.
The 49-year-old is set to star in a series of U.S. commercials for The Dannon Company that will feature "frank and open conversations" about bowel regularity, drawing attention to the importance of maintaining a healthy digestive system.

SARAH JESSICA PARKER’s latest movie has been scrapped after the finished project failed to find a distributor.
The Sex And The City star shot Spinning Into Butter with Miranda Richardson and Beau Bridges, in which she plays a college dean dealing with a race hate crime on campus.
The movie wrapped and was due to be released in 2007, but was hit by delay after delay as producers struggled to get it into theatres.
And now the actress is resigned to the fact the film may never see the light of day.

LILY ALLEN has launched a scathing attack on the British paparazzi - after a photographer allegedly smashed her car window.
The 22-year-old returned to her new BMW after a night of partying at London’s Groucho Club on Monday (03Mar08) to find one of the vehicle’s windows was broken.
And Allen is adamant the damage was the work of a paparazzo - and is "angered and horrified" by the incident.
Writing on her MySpace page, she says, "If you see photos in the press or online of my car window being ’smashed by vandals’, I just want you to know that it was one of the many paparazzi who were following us who did it.
"There were so many of them hassling us that it is difficult to say which one of them did it but I had to leap in a taxi to get away from them. My friend Emily had to get into the car which was covered in broken glass and drive it away. It was a scary situation and I want people to know that it was totally their fault and that the whole situation has angered and upset me.
"Emily got cut from sitting on the broken glass and we are both horrified that people could behave in this way and get away with it."

HEATHER MILLS’ father has attacked her decision to drag her divorce from SIR PAUL McCARTNEY through the courts, accusing her of being "greedy".
A judge is due to return a decision on 17 March (08) on what settlement Mills will receive, two years after their four-year marriage ended in 2006.
But Mark Mills claims his 40-year-old daughter should have settled months ago after the former Beatle made his first big money offer.

JAMES BLUNT shocked fans at a concert in New York on Monday night (03Mar08), by screening bloody footage of the war in Kosovo.
The images flashed up on a giant screen as Blunt sang new track No Bravery, which he wrote while serving as a NATO peacekeeper in the former Yugoslavia part of his stint as a captain in the British Army.
Blunt told the New York Daily News after the gig at the Beacon Theatre, "The film was my footage, taken from our vehicles while we patrolled.
"I recently had the chance to go back and play for the Serbs, and they were all in on my message. It’s great because music is the strongest form of communication, and it was nice to connect with them."

ELIZABETH HURLEY has quit making movies to spend more time at home with her son DAMIAN.
The model-turned-actress hasn’t taken a role in a film since 2004’s Method but only because she’s too busy being a full-time mum to the five-year-old.
She says, "Filming is very hard with a child, and I found I wasn’t able to be a good mum and do movies.
"I really do very little film work at all. I decided I couldn’t really do movies any more, which was a huge decision because I love making movies. But I didn’t want to be the sort of mother who was abroad filming all the time and away from my son and I didn’t want to take Damian out of school to travel with me and be educated by tutors."

MADONNA has laughed off reports she and husband GUY RITCHIE have invested $5 million (£2.5 million) in their own London pub.
It was claimed the couple had bought The Punchbowl near their home in London’s Mayfair from their friend Greg Foreman, with Foreman’s former gangster father even confirming the sale.

THE HILLS star HEIDI MONTAG is "heartbroken" following the death of her stepbrother ERIC O’HARA, and has jetted to Colorado to grieve with her family.
O’Hara died last Thursday (28Feb08), at the age of 24, after falling from the roof of a hotel, while clearing snow.
Montag has been accompanied on her trip by boyfriend and co-star Spencer Pratt.
A friend tells PageSix.com, "Heidi is absolutely heartbroken. Spencer has been trying to comfort her since she heard about Eric and they will both attend the funeral together. Heidi was very proud of her brother’s military record and will really miss him." O’Hara’s sister Carissa Berlet adds, "Eric last spoke to Heidi in October (07) after he left the Army, and he was pleased about her success on The Hills.
When we were growing up, we would all play together. Eric loved to ski and play all kinds of sports, just like Heidi. Eric’s death is a real tragedy and we are all coming together to mourn his passing."
