A pop wannabe who briefly dated BRITNEY SPEARS was voted off reality TV contest AMERICAN IDOL on Thursday (28Feb08) night.
Robbie Carrico romanced the troubled pop superstar in 1999 when he was a member of band Boyz N Girlz United, and the pair even stepped out as a couple at the 1999 premiere of movie Drive Me Crazy.
Acid-tongued American Idol judge Simon Cowell even ruled Carrico’s rendition of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Simple Man "quite good" in the first round of the current season of the show in January (08).
However, Carrico’s luck ran out on Thursday when he was one of four contestants voted off the programme.

Actor LAURENCE FISHBURNE is sweating about his return to the Broadway stage, because he’s starring in a one-man show with no castmates to rescue him if he slips up.
The Oscar nominee will appear on the New York stage for the first time in nine years to star as late Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall in Thurgood.
And Fishburne admits he’s anxious about the responsibility of commanding an audience alone.
He says, "If I said I wasn’t apprehensive and a little afraid, I’d be lying.
I know there’s no-one else to pick me up if I need it. So I am excited but a little bit nervous.
"Sure it’s a risk, but if I get to do what I love, the acting gods have smiled on me and I’m happy."

MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE star BRYAN CRANSTON was hunted by murder cops in the 1970s, after he and his brother were suspected of the slaying of a co-worker.
The actor and his sibling were working in a Florida restaurant when the chef they hated was found dead in the trunk of car - just weeks after they had both discussed with friends how they would like him to meet a grisly end.
Cranston, currently starring in U.S. drama series Breaking Bad, says, "My brother and I, back in the ’70s, we were riding our motorcycles across the country for a couple of years.
"We ran out of money in Florida, so we had to get jobs for a couple of weeks in a Polynesian restaurant. The cook there was a guy named Peter Wong.
"He was a miserable human being. He didn’t like anybody. He was horrible and all the waiters and bus boys used to sit around and talk about how we’d kill him.
"My brother said he’d put him in the meat grinder and then put him in his own wontons. I’d dice him up.
"He disappeared one evening, right at the end of the season, and my brother and I had left. It turned out he was bludgeoned to death and put in the trunk of a car.
"They were looking for anyone who wanted to kill him or talked about wanting to kill him. We were actually wanted for murder for a while. It was kind of exciting."

HEROES star HAYDEN PANETTIERE will be honoured for drawing international attention to whale-hunting at the upcoming Humane Society Of The United States’ Genesis Awards.
The 18-year-old will collect The Wyler Award for her efforts joining protestors off the Japanese coast late last year (07) in a bid to prevent fishermen from bludgeoning sea-life.
Panettiere was caught on camera sobbing about the deaths of whales she had desperately tried to save, while defending herself from angry fishermen’s harpoons.
The 22nd Genesis Awards take place at the Beverly Hilton hotel in California on 29 March (08).

Singer JOSH KELLEY amazed a U.S. TV audience on Friday (29Feb08) by solving a Rubik’s Cube puzzle in under three minutes.
The new husband of Knocked Up actress Katherine Heigl accepted a challenge on Live With Regis And Kelly, hosted by Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa, to solve the multi-coloured 1970s toy puzzle in under four minutes.
A confident Kelley said before his TV attempt, "It’s gonna take me two (minutes)." Kelly ended up solving the Rubik’s cube in two minutes and fifty-five seconds.
During his challenge, he explained how he came to be so skilled at the puzzle: "I just learned how to do it last year (07) when I did a Wal-Mart tour.
I figured out how to do it because I was really bored and I was in the toy section trying to hide from all the people who’d come to watch the show.
"And I was like, ‘Oh cool, a Rubik’s Cube, let’s do this.’"

Christian rocker LARRY NORMAN has died of heart failure. He was 60.
Norman, who is best known for fronting religious band People! in the 1960s, passed away at his home in Salem, Oregon on Sunday (25Feb08).
People! scored its biggest hit with a cover version of The Zombies’ I Love You in 1968, but Norman left the group the day their debut album of the same name was released.
The following year (69), Norman released his debut solo album Upon This Rock, which is widely considered to be the first Christian rock disc.
Norman was inducted into the Gospel Hall Of Fame in 2001.
A public memorial service is planned to take place at the Church On The Hill in Turner, Oregon at 10am on Saturday (01Mar07).

Rapper JUVENILE is in mourning after his four-year-old daughter was murdered allegedly by her teenage stepbrother.
Seventeen-year-old Anthony Tyrone Terrell Jr. has been charged with fatally shooting his policewoman mother Joy Deleston, 39, and her two daughters, Micaiah, 11, and Jelani, four.
Jelani was Deleston’s daughter with 32-year-old Juvenile, real name Terius Gray.
Police in Georgia on Friday (29Feb08) charged Terrell Jr. with three counts of murder and three counts of aggravated assault.
The high school student is being held in DeKalb County Jail, reports website TMZ.com.
Deleston was a Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Deputy.

LATEST: Supermodel NAOMI CAMPBELL has been released from hospital in Sao Paolo, Brazil after undergoing surgery to have a cyst removed.
The 37-year-old checked into the Sirio-Libanes Hospital, where she was treated by gynaecologist Jose Aristodemo Pinotti and infection specialist Dr.
David Uip, on Sunday (24Feb08).
It was later revealed she underwent surgery to remove a cyst.
On Friday (29Feb08) Dr. Pinotti revealed Campbell had been allowed to leave the clinic after a five-day stay, saying only, "She is perfectly well." The catwalk queen has been in Brazil for several weeks after attending the Rio De Janeiro Carnival, reportedly as the guest of Brazilian billionaire Marcus Elias, reports PageSix.com.
