At a press conference on Thursday (28Feb08) to promote the upcoming release of her new album Hard Candy, Madonna was hounded by reporters wanting to know how she feels about turning 50.
When a journalist mentioned "5-0" in hushed tones, she responded, "It’s not a bad word, you can say it." She also urged them not to view the age as a milestone, saying: "I see it as another excuse to have a birthday party.
"(Physically) I feel stronger now than, maybe, 20 years ago - but I think your physicality is connected to your consciousness so if your mind is strong, your body will be strong."

BELUSHI’S GRIEF FOR BROTHER

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:39 pm

JAMES BELUSHI is still grieving his brother JOHN, 26 years after he overdosed on drugs.
Belushi claims it’s impossible for him to get over the zany Animal House star’s death, because he meets fans every day who remind him how much his older brother was loved.
The 53-year-old says, "When there’s a sudden death in the family, whether it’s a car accident or a casualty of war, or a drug overdose, when it’s a young person like that, it’s like throwing a hand grenade into the family, and the shrapnel goes through everybody. And when it’s public, it only makes it worse.
"You could have lost a brother, I could have known you for years, and you might never tell me. But for me, it’s everywhere I go. People just say, ‘I loved your brother.’ And I always go, ‘I loved him too.’ You just can’t hide from it." Comedian John died in 1982, aged 33.

WILLIAMS’ DAD HIRES SNIPES’ LAWYERS FOR TAX CASE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:36 pm

Actress MICHELLE WILLIAMS’ father has hired the same attorneys who successfully cleared WESLEY SNIPES of tax fraud to defend his own honour against American tax evasion charges.
Stock market trader Larry Williams is currently living in Australia after a self-imposed exile to avoid facing charges in his native U.S. of willfully attempting to evade $1.5 million (£750,000) in taxes from 1990 to 2001.
He is currently free on $857,000 (£428,500) bail after his arrest in Sydney in May 2006, on the request of U.S. authorities.
Australian magistrates are presently considering a request to extradite Williams to the U.S., although a hearing date has yet to be set.
And now 64-year-old Williams is hoping lawyers Robert Bernhoft and Robert Barnes can emulate their success in Snipes’ case for him.
Bernhoft tells the New York Post’s PageSix, "He’s eager to restore his good name and reputation." Snipes was acquitted of tax fraud and filing a false claim, as well as three misdemeanour counts of willful failure to file a tax return with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) last month (Feb08).
However, he faces three years in jail after being convicted of failing to file his taxes for five years.

BROADWAY ACTOR BARBOUR SENTENCED TO PRISON

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:36 pm

LATEST: Broadway star JAMES BARBOUR has been sentenced to 60 days in jail after pleading guilty to groping a 15-year-old girl in his dressing room.
The 41-year-old appeared at New York’s Manhattan Superior Court on Friday (29Feb08) for sentencing on two misdemeanour counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.
At a hearing in January (08), Barbour confessed that he lured a high school student back to his dressing room in 2001 after a teacher arranged for her and her parents to see him in a production of Jane Eyre.
The actor - who also played the Beast in Beauty and the Beast - revealed he touched the aspiring actress sexually. He then arranged for her to visit him at home, where he touched her again.
Barbour, who admitted to Judge Micki Scherer that he knew the girl was underage, agreed to enter a guilty plea in a deal with prosecutors which avoids his name being added to the American sex offenders’ register.
Had he opposed the deal, he faced up to four years in jail and counts of criminal sex act in the third degree.
After Friday’s hearing, his victim - now 22 - said she is pleased at the prison term and hopes it "will prevent him from even thinking of touching another child again".

COWELL PLEASED AT LEWIS’ BRITS SNUB

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:36 pm

Music mogul SIMON COWELL is relieved his pop protege LEONA LEWIS lost out at the Brit Awards last month (Feb08), because the snub will stop her from developing an ego.
The singer was nominated in four categories at the London awards ceremony, but sensationally lost out on gongs including British Female Solo Artist and British Single for her smash hit Bleeding Love, despite being the favourite to win.
But Cowell insists the experience will serve as a great learning curve for the young star.
He says, "I was glad Leona didn’t win at the Brits. It was the best thing that could have happened.
"She’s had a lot of things going her way so it shows her that things can be unfair at times. She had the biggest selling (U.K.) single of last year so it’s a mockery that she never won a Brit. This knockback will make her stronger."

LIL WAYNE ADDICTED TO ‘SYRUP’?

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:33 pm

Rapper LIL WAYNE has sparked fears for his health after allegedly becoming addicted to a drink containing the same cough medicine that contributed to PIMP C’s death.
The hip-hop star - real name Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. - has, in recent months, reportedly developed a liking for "syrup", the potentially lethal mix of prescription codeine or promethazine with soda or juice.
The drink - which contains drugs usually only prescribed to those with severe colds and pneumonia - has become popular in the Deep South of the U.S., and New Orleans, Louisiana native Lil Wayne recently alluded to his struggle to quit the habit.
In an interview with MTV, he says, "Everybody wants me to stop all this and all that. It ain’t (sic) that easy - feels like death in your stomach when you stop doing that s**t.
"You gotta learn how to stop, you gotta go through detox. You gotta do all kinds of stuff…" Pimp C died in his sleep in a Los Angeles hotel on 13 December (07), aged 33.

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 3:33 pm

BONE THUGS-N-HARMONY have been forced to pay out more than $200,000 (£100,000) to a Japanese promotion company after allegedly missing a string of tour dates in the country.
World Mix Entertainment recently filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Federal Court claiming the rap trio had defaulted on an agreement to play shows in Nagoya and Okinawa in December 2006, forcing the company to cancel the gigs and refund the ticket sales to disappointed fans.
The firm demanded compensation for the Crossroads stars’ contract, which asked for $25,000 (£12,500) per show and $10,000 (£5,000) per photoshoot in addition to all hotel and travelling costs, and their tour rider, which included one "big sack of marijuana", among other items.
World Mix Entertainment was awarded the default judgement and compensation of $205,510 (£102,755) on Friday (29Feb08) after members Krayzie Bone, Layzie Bone and Wish Bone failed to contest the suit or hire a lawyer to defend themselves against the claims.

PRINCE CHARLES’ PORTMAN GAFFE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 2:57 am

British royal PRINCE CHARLES shocked NATALIE PORTMAN at the London premiere of the first STAR WARS prequel - when he asked her if she had starred in the original movies.
The 26-year-old actress wasn’t born when the first two films in the franchise, Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back, were released in 1977 and 1980 respectively, and she was just two when Return Of The Jedi hit cinemas in 1983.
So Portman was surprised that Charles thought she might have starred in the trilogy at the 1999 premiere of The Phantom Menace, which was held when she had just turned 18.
She recalls, "I met Prince Charles at the royal premiere of the first Star Wars (prequel). They have one tit-bit (of information) they are told about every person.
"He asked me, ‘Were you in the original films?’ Errrr."
