UKRAINE FILM BOSSES CALL FOR SIMPSON

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:33 pm

LATEST: Actress/pop star JESSICA SIMPSON is in demand in the Ukraine following the success of her latest film in cinemas there.
Blonde Ambition was a flop in the U.S., where it made just over $1,000 (£500) at the box office during its opening weekend in December (08).
The movie, which also stars Luke Wilson, was pulled from theatres, but it has been reborn in the Ukraine, where it’s become a surprise hit.

Film producer Alex Shpiluk, a member of the Ukrainian Film Commission, tells In Touch magazine, "She is really the ideal of American beauty and style, like Barbie. She would be useful to us and our image." And Arama Gevorcyan, another leading Ukrainian film producer, has gone so far as to invite Simpson to be the guest of honour at a September (08) movie celebration in the Eastern European country.
He says, "I’m the organiser of the big 80th anniversary celebration of the largest Ukrainian film studio, Dovzhenko.

JOLIE URGES AMERICA TO INCREASE AID FOR IRAQI REFUGEES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:33 pm

Humanitarian actress ANGELINA JOLIE has called on U.S. government officials to keep troops in Iraq and increase the "financial and material assistance" to refugees there.
Jolie, who is a United Nations High Commissioner For Refugees (UNHCR) goodwill ambassador, has written an article, titled Staying To Help In Iraq, for The Washington Post newspaper.
The Tomb Raider star, who recently visited the war-torn country, writes: "My visit (to Iraq) left me even more deeply convinced that we not only have a moral obligation to help displaced Iraqi families, but also a serious, long-term, national security interest in ending this crisis.
"Today’s humanitarian crisis in Iraq - and the potential consequences for our national security - are great.
"Can the United States afford to gamble that four million or more poor and displaced people, in the heart of the Middle East, won’t explode in violent desperation, sending the whole region into further disorder? "What we cannot afford, in my view, is to squander the progress that has been made. In fact, we should step up our financial and material assistance." The UNHCR is asking for $261 million (£130.5 million) in aid in 2008 to help displaced refugees.

STONE: ‘SOUL LYRICS OFFER LOVE CLUES FOR GUYS’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:33 pm

Singer JOSS STONE has urged men to pay attention to the lyrics of soul classics - because the words offer tips on how to be the perfect lover.
The British soul star insists Stax and Motown standards offer clues on how to woo a woman - and even modern singers like herself and India.Arie know how to turn a song into a love anthem.
She says, "It’s in all those household songs: ‘Love me better, I want to love you right, don’t stand me up, don’t disrespect me.’ Soul lyrics are the guide to the way women think.
"India.Arie wrote a song called Talk To Her. It goes, ‘Don’t get smart with her, have a heart-to-heart with her, just like you would with your daughter.’ That’s good advice."

McCONAUGHEY TAKES OVER RAT PACK PAD FOR PHOTO SHOOT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:30 pm

MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY lived out one of his dreams during a recent Men’s Health magazine photo shoot, posing for shots at FRANK SINATRA’s former desert retreat.

McConaughey admits he has always been a fan of Sinatra’s Rat Pack style and their ideology.
He says, "They were a small fraternity of the hippest, coolest cats out there, man. They were talented, paid hard, played classy, and always looked sharp. And they never wasted their time.
"They are what I like best about the limelight lifestyle. Those guys weren’t going to the show unless they were the show." As well as serving as the Men’s Health March (08) cover model, McConaughey offers laid-back lifestyle tips for those seeking a relief from stress.
In an agony uncle-style column, the chilled-out actor admits exercise is often the best way to combat stress - and he always makes time for fitness breaks.
He explains, "I’ll drop and give myself 20 push-ups at intervals throughout the day - 9am, bang out 20. Sitting in a boring meeting at 10.30, bang out 20.

SCHWARZENEGGER OBTAINS HIS TANK FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:27 pm

California Governor ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER has asked an Ohio museum to return his Austrian army tank so he can reward school children with rides in it.
The Austrian-born Terminator star plans to offer inner-city Los Angeles kids the chance to travel in the vintage military vehicle if they stay in school, work hard and avoid drugs.
Schwarzenegger and Warren Motts, the owner of Motts Military Museum in Ohio, obtained the M47 tank from the Austrian government and had it shipped to America in 1999.
The actor drove the tank during his one-year of compulsory military service in Austria in 1965.
The vehicle was initially displayed in a Columbus, Ohio shopping mall outside one of Schwarzenegger’s Planet Hollywood restaurants - before it found a more permanent home at the Motts Military Museum in nearby Groveport.
On 19 February (08), the tank was transported to California, where it now awaits its new morale-boosting tour of duty.
Mott says, "I’m pleased we had the opportunity to have it and let people see it. It was neat to have a Hollywood connection."

RADIOHEAD RULE OUT GLASTONBURY FOR ECOLOGICAL REASONS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:18 pm

Green rockers RADIOHEAD have ruled out performing at the Glastonbury Festival in Britain this year (08) because poor public transport to the event is bad for the environment.
Frontman Thom Yorke is concerned that most people attending the event, which takes place in England’s rural south-west in June (08), drive there "with one or two people in a car".
And Yorke claims such a transport situation is "an ecological disaster".
In an article published by British newspaper The Sun, he writes, "(We’re doing) everything we can to minimise our impact on the environment…
"What we’re trying to do now is only play in areas that have a public transport infrastructure in place. So that rules out Glastonbury for this year.
Maybe we can work out a plan for the future." On Wednesday (27Feb08), Yorke gave a speech at the European Union’s headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, urging leaders to drastically cut carbon emissions by 2020.
He said, "If we don’t get stuck in now, in 20 years’ time it will be worse and things will be more extreme."
