ANCHOR LANE FREED OVER COP ASSAULT CHARGES
An American TV news anchor accused of assaulting a police officer walked free from court in New York on Monday (25Feb08).
Alycia Lane was charged with hitting a female cop after a road rage clash in Manhattan in December (07).
The former Philadelphia KYW-TV newscaster denied the accusations, and prosecutors agreed to downgrade the charges to misdemeanours.
Judge Dina Douglas adjourned the case and told Lane the misdemeanour charges would be dropped if she avoids arrest in the next six months.
Lane, who was fired from the station in January (08), told reporters outside court, "I just want to say I’m so glad it’s over, and I want to thank all those who supported me."
