Elishia Stevenson was walking in Cornwall’s Coronation Park, in Helston, with her mother, father and grandparents when the vicious bird bit her on the finger.
Rachael Stevenson told her daughter the swan was technically owned by the queen as they were in a royal park and Elishia decided to write to the monarch about the ‘naughty’ bird.
Rachael said: ‘Elishia came back in tears. There were about six swans she was feeding and one just pecked out. ‘I think she was a bit shocked, but once she calmed down she asked me who owned the swans because she wanted to ask them to tell the swans off for being naughty. I told her the queen looked after them and she announced she wanted to send the letter. ‘To be quite honest we posted it to keep her happy and we told her that people would tell the queen. ‘In the letter, she said the swans had been naughty and that she was very upset with them. We were under no illusion that we would get a reply. We addressed it to The Queen, Buckingham Palace and that was it.’ However, the queen was so touched by the six-year-old’s letter that she sent an official letter of apology in return, which is now displayed on Elishia’s bedroom wall.
The letter read: ‘The queen wishes me to write and thank you for your letter which you have sent to Her Majesty. The queen thought it kind of you to write to her and was sorry to hear about the swan.’ Rachael added: ‘I hope this story brings a smile to others.’

A new biography by author Anet Bleich claims the Labour politician covered up a bribery scandal involving Dutch Prince Bernhard to enable Queen Juliana to stay on the throne.
Documents proving Prince Bernhard, who was also accused of accepting bribes of £1.1 million in the Lockheed affair in the 70s, was involved in a similar scandal with plane builder Northrop were allegedly kept under wraps by Uyl.
Dutch newspaper Volkskrant reports the book alleges his decision to keep the scandal a secret meant Bernhard was kept out of jail and Queen Juliana remained the country’s monarch.
If the documents had been made public, Bleich claims it could have been the end of the monarchy, as Beatrix, who is now the reigning queen, would reportedly refuse to take the throne in those circumstances.
Beatrix has been described as ‘quite desperate’ about her position during the Lockheed affair - which involved a series of bribes and contributions made by US aerospace company Lockheed between the late 50s and 70s regarding the sale of aircraft.
Dutch Minister of Finance Wim Duisenberg who visited her during the investigations said: ‘I found her quite desperate. She had the idea that this opened a sewer of which the stench was unbearable. She was the future queen, but started to doubt whether she should do that, and that would have caused a major crisis in the Netherland.’ While the scandal - which caused political controversy in West Germany, Italy, Netherlands and Japan - was never bought to court, it did have consequences for Prince Bernhard, who was forced to resign from all his military functions.
A second scandal would have meant an official lawsuit, and would have doubtless led to the prince going to jail.

The 26-year-old royal is travelling to Barocca d’Alva with her horse Toytown and groom Kelly Davies to compete in an international equestrian meeting but has insisted on doing most of the driving for the long journey.
A source told Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper: ‘Zara said she thought it would be fun to drive down to Portugal, so she has volunteered to be behind the wheel most of the way.
‘It’s not that unusual for her - she doesn’t ask for special treatment because she is royalty. She is always happy to get stuck in like everyone else.’ Zara, who is the reigning world three-day eventing champion, explained Toytown can’t wait to get to Portugal for the competition, which is being held on February 27-March 2 and March 5-9.
She said: ‘He gets bored if he stays out too long, so he’s been schooling and galloping and is in really good form.’ The royal, who is dating England rugby player Mike Tindall, is part of the British Olympic equestrian team and hopes to pick up a medal at the Hong Kong games in August.

The princess died in a Paris car crash on August 31, 1997, along with driver Henri Paul and lover Dodi Fayed, and James Andanson has been blamed by Dodi’s father, Mohamed Al Fayed, for causing the accident.
Al Fayed believes Andanson - who was found dead in 2000 - was the owner of a mystery white Fiat Uno linked to the Pont d’Alma tunnel tragedy.
But giving evidence to the jury at London’s High Court via videolink from France, Andanson’s widow Elisabeth said this was ‘impossible’.
Asked if she could say ‘with confidence’ that her husband was at home on the night Diana died, she replied: ‘Yes, with certainty.’ Jonathan Hough, counsel to the inquest, said: ‘Could he have got out of bed, travelled to Paris, been involved in a crash and travelled back to Lignieres without you noticing?’ She replied: ‘It’s impossible.’ The jury has heard there is evidence suggesting Diana’s Mercedes collided with a white Fiat Uno before it ploughed into the pillar 13 of the tunnel in the early hours of August 31, 1997. They also heard how Andanson sold his white Fiat Uno nine weeks after the Paris tragedy but after being examined by police vehicle was ruled out of inquiries.
In 2000, Andanson’s body was discovered by police in a still-burning car in the Les Louettes forest in Nant, north of Montpellier in southern France.
The body, which was so badly burned that it later disintegrated while being moved, had to be identified by dental records.
The court has heard that police are confident Andanson killed himself.

LATEST: Plans to protect celebrities like BRITNEY SPEARS from the paparazzi have been dealt a major blow by Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) chief WILLIAM BRATTON, who insists the troubled star should just "stay home".
In a U.S. radio interview on Wednesday (20Feb08), Bratton slammed L.A. City Councilman Dennis P. Zine’s recent bill proposal that would make it illegal for members of the paparazzi to photograph celebrities in designated safety zones if not licenced.
The LAPD boss is adamant the 26-year-old could conserve city resources - if she chose to stay indoors.
He says, "What we need is Britney Spears to stay home instead of traipsing all over town. That would solve the problem. We don’t need additional laws.
I’ve got laws coming out my ears to deal with this issue.
"What you have is several young women in this town and several young men basically making fools of themselves and tying up not only my resources but the resources of the media that would do better covering legitimate stories instead of a bunch of airheads running around out there.
"Quite clearly, some of these characters so favoured by the paparazzi are clearly in need of services. Not police services, but psychiatric services." It was Spears’ police escort from her Coldwater Canyon home to UCLA Medical Center last month (31Jan08) which prompted the proposal. The motorcade included an ambulance, at least a dozen LAPD officers on motorcycles and a helicopter all at a reported cost to authorities of $24,000 (£12,000).

Hollywood star LINDSAY LOHAN has signed up to test her comedy skills alongside JACK BLACK in romantic comedy YE OLDE TIMES.
The actress is due to start work on the movie this April (08), according to MovieHole.net. The movie will see Lohan reunite with actor Cary Elwes, whom she starred alongside in Georgia Rule last year (07). Ann-Margret, Orlando Jones and David Arquette are also on board for the project.
Recently, the 21-year-old has been shooting the tango-themed romance Dare To Love Me - her first feature since completing a stint in rehab last year (07).

Hollywood newcomer LATHAN McKAY has been selected to play tragic ALICE IN CHAINS frontman LAYNE STALEY in upcoming biopic GET BORN AGAIN.
The 30-year-old - who bears a striking resemblance to Staley - has been meeting with Argentine journalist Adriana Rubio, who wrote the autobiography the film is based on, in a bid to develop the character he will portray.
McKay has also been training with U.S. rockers Motherweiser to familiarise himself with the 1990s grunge rock band’s music.
Staley died in April 2002 of a drug overdose. Seattle, Washington-based Alice In Chains enjoyed success in the early 1990s with such hits as Would? and Them Bones.

The bosses of a U.S. film company, which produces children’s TV and movies, has been struck with a sexual harassment lawsuit by a woman claiming she was "slapped on the buttocks" and asked inappropriate questions about her underwear.
Mary Beth Porter, 31, worked as an independent contractor with Oak Films from August until December 2006, during which time she alleges associate producer John Yang and manager Steele Shannon created "a hostile work environment".
Porter claims both men discussed oral sex in front of her, and that Yang "regularly made unwelcome, inappropriate comments and/or suggestive non-verbal signals" to her, once asking whether her pubic hair was "shaved" bare or in the shape of a "landing strip".
Keith Fink, Porter’s Los Angeles lawyer, says, "She has a very good case. Can you imagine this is a company that produces G-rated (for children) films?" Yang, who is set to be deposed next week (begs25Feb08), told New York gossip column PageSix, "I am innocent. This is a frivolous lawsuit and I think there are other reasons behind it. "We’re a successful company with two movies in the works. I deny all of it and can’t wait to go to trial." Oak Films president Joe Reilly called Porter’s lawsuit a "non-incident", adding, "It’s unfortunate this is the route it’s taken. "She never came to me and said there were problems. There’s no merit, we’re going to prevail." Oak Films is responsible for the popular Grandpa’s Place DVD series as well as the upcoming film The Prince And The Pauper, starring teen twins Dylan and Cole Sprouse.

Actor TOMMY LEE JONES refused to leap for joy when he was named an Oscar nominee - because winning awards for his movie work means nothing to him.
Veteran Jones has been nominated in the Best Actor category for his role in The Valley Of Elah, but he confesses such glitzy high-profile events are so far removed from his quiet life away from California, they fail to excite him.

He tells The Hollywood Reporter, "I don’t live in Southern California, and I spend most of my time in places where people are only vaguely aware of the process. "It doesn’t weigh on my mind a great much. It doesn’t do you any good to worry about these things or even think about them very much; they are gonna go the way they go. If I were to assess my chances of winning, I would say they are quite slim."

The Fat Lip punks have been forced to tour in a cockroach-infested bus for years - because the reputable companies won’t allow the wild rockers to step foot inside their prized motor homes.

Former THE DARKNESS guitarist DAN HAWKINS has blamed his frontman brother’s drug abuse for the collapse of the British band.
Hawkins - who has since formed a new band, Stone Gods, with ex-The Darkness members Ed Graham and Richie Edwards - admits Growing On Me singer Justin fell victim to the excesses of a cliched rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle, and damaged the group beyond repair.
And Hawkins knew it was all over when analogies were being made between The Darkness and legendary comedy band Spinal Tap.
He says, "Justin took far too many drugs and quit the band - it was that simple.
"Things started to go pear-shaped and people changed and turned into arseholes. The things that were going on were so cliched, it’s almost Spinal Tap! It seems like a distant memory."

Hip-hop mogul DAMON DASH was unable to enjoy a recent lunar eclipse - because he was left terrified by the celestial event.

Heavy metal band EXODUS clashed with security officials at a recent gig and sparked chaos - after a fan was thrown out of the venue for stage-diving.
The Riot Act stars hit out at security men when they ejected a fan for stage-diving during their live performance at The Pearl Room in Mokena, Illinois, this month (Feb08).
According to reports by fans on Last.fm - a social music network - the rockers were furious at organisers for rejecting the supporter and retaliated by ordering all audience members to stage-dive.
A fan - using the name Fosster3567 - says, "They shouted at security to let the kid back in and even told the security guard who kicked the kid out to get the f**k out.
"When they didn’t, Exodus frontman Rob Dukes shouted, ‘Hey, I’m stage-diving.
Kick me the f**k out big boy.’ He jumped into the crowd.
"When he got back onto the stage, he commanded the audience all to stage-dive. This was when the place turned into total chaos." The Pearl Room’s management reportedly shut off the power and Dukes spent a few minutes arguing with organisers - but the band were able to continue their set.

The troubled singer refused to let cleaners into her executive suite at London’s Riverbank Plaza Hotel - where she has been staying since she left rehab last week - but when they finally gained entry on Wednesday (20.02.08) they were shocked with what they discovered.
A source told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: ‘Staff finally got into the room while Amy was at the BRITs. It was carnage. It was covered in alcohol and cigarette butts, absolutely disgusting. The bed had not been changed since the day she arrived. ‘There was dirty underwear everywhere and the place smelt incredibly stale. They have already had to replace part of the wooden floor, which cost £3,000 alone. Who knows what the total bill will be.’ Amy, who had been staying at the hotel with her photographer friend Blake Wood, had also taken a mirror off the wall and laid it on the ground, which has sparked concern she is still taking drugs as shiny surfaces are often used to snort cocaine.
The source added: ‘The mirror was on the floor. One can only guess what that was for. She had also taken down all the pictures. She had obviously dyed her black beehive and the bath had to be scrubbed and unblocked from matted hair balls.
‘It took three maids two hours to get the place into a habitable order.’ Yesterday (21.02.08), Amy, 24, arrived looking tired and dishevelled following two nights of partying for an emotional meeting with her husband Black Fielder-Civil at London’s Pentonville Prison.
A source said: ‘Amy arrived at the prison looking a bit of a mess. She had bags under her eyes and her make-up was smudged. It was obvious she’d been up all night drinking.
‘She was in tears as she spoke to Blake. He looked as though he was crying too. It was a very tense conversation.’ Blake is awaiting trial on charges of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and grievous bodily harm.

Cheryl - who once claimed she would kill anyone who cheated on her - had initially vowed to stand by him, saying she was taking her marriage vows seriously.

Following the allegations, Cheryl left their marital home in Surrey, England, and escaped to Thailand to consider the future of her marriage.

The ‘Sex and the City’ star has ruled out ever having plastic surgery to look younger, because her smile lines are a reminder of the happiest points in her life. She said: ‘If you are trying to say, ‘OK! I want to look in the mirror for the next 20 years and not see any changes,’ I just feel you have kind of lost touch with reality.
‘I feel we have lost the idea that smile lines are beautiful. When they have all these adverts where they have lines drawn on your face and they say these shouldn’t be there, well, that would mean that you had never smiled or laughed and that’s just not right.’ Kristin also revealed she has angered a lot of her ‘Sex and the City’ fans by being completely different from her Park Lane princess character Charlotte York Goldenblatt.
