SORVINO DENIES SQUANDERING MOVIE INVESTORS’ MONEY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:30 pm

Veteran actor PAUL SORVINO is fighting to reassure investors of his upcoming directorial debut THE TROUBLE WITH CALI that he hasn’t squandered their money.
The Goodfellas star raised $500,000 (£250,000) of his independent film’s budget from Lackawanna County in Pennsylvania, after local officials agreed to enter into a partnership with him.
Sorvino then shot The Trouble With Cali in the Scranton area of the state in 2006 - but locals are now wondering whether they’ll ever see a return on their investment.
Lackawanna County commissioner Corey O’Brien says, "If it’s a good film, hopefully we’ll receive a return on our investment. If it’s a lousy film, we probably won’t." However, Sorvino insists his investors have nothing to worry about as he recently completed a "very rough cut" of his movie and has raised around $975,000 (£487,500) of its estimated $1.3 million (£650,000) budget, $175,000 (£87,500) of which is his own money.
He says, "I have never done anything that I’ve been in charge of that has failed. I don’t intend to make this the first one. It’s a wonderful movie and I can’t wait to get it out."

ALZHEIMER’S ORGANISATION WARNS CHRISTIE AGAINST OSCAR JOKES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:30 pm

Officials at the U.S. Alzheimer’s Association have called on JULIE CHRISTIE and others to show some sensitivity towards the disease at the Academy Awards on Sunday (24Feb08).
Christie, who is nominated for an Oscar for her portrayal of an Alzheimer’s disease sufferer in Away From Her, upset the organisation last month (Jan08) when she made an insensitive onstage joke while collecting the Best Actress prize at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
After thanking select members of the movie’s cast and crew, Christie said, "And if I’ve forgotten anybody, well, it’s just that I’m still in character." With two movies - Away From Her and The Savages - dealing with Alzheimer’s and dementia up for Oscars, mental health campaigners want stars at Sunday’s ceremony to tread carefully when discussing the diseases.
Peter Braun of the Alzheimer’s Association tells the Los Angeles Times, "It is no laughing matter. People don’t laugh about cancer, people don’t laugh about AIDS.
"We call on the Academy to use this moment for good, as it has done for so many other social causes."

AL FAYED TELLS INQUEST DIANA & DODI WERE MURDERED

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:29 pm

DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES and her boyfriend DODI AL FAYED were murdered, his father MOHAMED AL FAYED told the inquest into their deaths on Monday (18Feb08).
Business mogul Al Fayed told the hearing at London’s High Court that then-U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair, the British ambassador to France and intelligence agencies MI5 and MI6 all participated in a conspiracy to cover-up the fact the lovers were deliberately killed.
Al Fayed also claimed Diana "knew" her former husband Prince Charles and his father Prince Philip "were trying to get rid of her".
The inquest aims to establish whether the princess and her boyfriend were the victims of an accident in the 1997 Paris, France car crash that took their lives, or if they were the targets of an assassination plot headed by the British royal family - as claimed by Al Fayed.
During his testimony on Monday, Al Fayed maintained his belief that Diana and Dodi were murdered by British security services acting on the orders of Prince Philip, the husband of British monarch Queen Elizabeth II.
Al Fayed described Prince Philip as a "Nazi" and a "racist" and also accused Prince Charles of agreeing to the assassination plot so he could marry his "crocodile wife" Camilla Parker Bowles.
The owner of London’s famous Harrods store went on to claim that the murder was carried out by photographer James Andanson, after being instructed to do so by security services. Andanson has since died.
Al Fayed also held up a copy of the Monday edition of British newspaper The Sun, demanding Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell be brought back to testify after he confessed to lying while giving evidence at the inquest under oath.
Burrell - who was the princess’ closest confidante - was caught on videotaped footage, obtained by The Sun, in which he admits to holding back information from the inquest’s coroner Lord Justice Scott Baker, during his earlier testimonies.
Lord Justice Scott Baker told the court: "This (bringing Burrell back) is something that’s certainly being investigated."
