AMY WINEHOUSE has apologised for missing the Grammy Awards, but has confirmed reports she’ll perform at Sunday’s (10Feb08) ceremony via a satellite link-up.
U.S. embassy staff in London refused to grant Winehouse a visa to attend the Los Angeles event, because she was arrested and fined for drug possession in Norway in October (07).
The singer, who is nominated for six awards, will still entertain guests but on a giant screen instead of in person.
In a statement she says: "I’m raring to go and really excited to be performing at my first Grammy Awards. I’d like to thank everyone for their support over the last couple of weeks. I’m really sorry I can’t be there but I appreciate that I’m being given a second chance via satellite." Winehouse left the London rehab clinic where she is being treated for drug addiction on Friday (08Feb08) to begin preparing for her performance.
Her spokesperson says, "To prepare for the performance, Amy will be leaving the rehabilitation clinic today where she has been a resident for two weeks.
"She is feeling great, looking healthy and looking forward to doing what she does best.
"She will remain under full medical supervision and her treatment will continue as normal."

PARIS HILTON sparked rumours she has reunited with old flame, and former porn star, SIMON REX after they were seen sharing a passionate embrace in the back of a car.
The pair, who dated briefly several years ago, were spotted leaving the Villa Lounge in West Hollywood together on Wednesday (07Feb08) night and after sliding into the back of Hilton’s vehicle the couple were videotaped kissing on the backseat.
Rex’s brief career in adult movies eventually led to a Hollywood film career - he starred in Scary Movie 4 before meeting HIlton on the set of 2006’s National Lampoon’s Pledge This!.

ANNA NICOLE SMITH’s former partner HOWARD K. STERN has marked the anniversary of her death, by creating a charity in her name.
Lawyer Stern released a statement on Friday (8Feb08), one year to the day after Smith was found dead in her Florida hotel room, after overdosing on drugs.
He is appealing for donations to the Anna Nicole and Daniel Wayne Smith Charitable Foundation, which also remembers the star’s son, who died aged 20 in September 2006.
Stern writes, "Today is extremely difficult for those of us who were close to Anna Nicole. In memory of Anna Nicole and her son Daniel, we have created the Anna Nicole and Daniel Wayne Smith Charitable Foundation. It will benefit charitable causes that Anna Nicole supported during her life: children, the elderly, and the treatment and cure of AIDS.
"Hopefully it will grow, help more people each year, and eventually be headed by her daughter Dannielynn. All donations through February 2008 will benefit a charity in the Bahamas for underprivileged and at risk youths that Anna Nicole wanted to help."

NO DOUBT’s reunion has been thrown into doubt by GWEN STEFANI’s pregnancy, amid reports she won’t perform with the band while she is expecting her second child.
The group was due to return this year (08) with a new album and a tour to promote it.
But sources tell OK! magazine the singer is reluctant to step onstage while she is pregnant, after touring while carrying her 20-month-old son Kingston.
The insider says, "She’s going to write a record. But she has doubts about going onstage again while pregnant - too much can go wrong."

Former DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES star JESSE METCALFE has been involved in a fight outside a Los Angeles nightclub - with the actor sustaining a punch in the face.
The 29-year-old was talking to Crossroads star Taryn Manning outside the Boulevard 3 club when the actress’ muscle-bound companion stepped in and exchanged a series of blows with the actor, knocking him to the ground.
The fight was caught on camera by a bystander and the video footage, posted on TMZ.com, shows Metcalfe trying to chase after his attacker before being stopped by security.
This is not the first time Metcalfe has been involved in scuffle outside a nightspot - in December (07) the actor reportedly launched an unprovoked attack on a paparazzi photographer on exiting a London club, leaving the snapper with a bloody nose.

Divorcee JEFF GOLDBLUM is has vowed never to get married again, branding relationships a waste of time.
The Jurassic Park star has resigned himself to living the single life insisting he has put too much time and energy into his previous relationships to warrant getting married again.
Goldblum has had a string of previous failed relationships - being wed twice, once to actress Patricia Gaul and then again to Stuart Little star Geena Davis.
The serial dater has also been engaged to actress Laura Dern and dancer Catherine Wreford.
Goldblum says, "I’ve put a lot of time into relationships. A nine and a six-year marriage, and then a four and a two-year relationship.
"I’ve put time into domestic exclusivity and enjoyed it very much, but I also enjoy being single right now.
"I have been romantic in the past but I don’t think I am currently romantically sold on the ideal of marriage." The 55-year-old is also ruling out having children any time soon insisting he likes his own space too much to have a child.
He says, "I like kids but I am happy not to have any of my own right now. You know, I’m confident in my acting, I play my music, I’m as hearty as I’ve ever been and when I go home at night I like it nice and quiet."

TOM CRUISE biographer ANDREW MORTON refused to be bullied out of publishing his expose on the actor - despite warnings from his entourage the book would ruin him.
Morton claims he was intimidated by the Church Of Scientology - of which Cruise is a leading member - as well as the actor’s legal team. He was also warned of the plight of other writers who had attempted to take on the star and ruined their careers in the process.
But the Brit insists it was nothing compared to the pressure put on him ahead of his biography on Diana, Princess Of Wales.
He tells the New York Post, "Was I hassled? Yes. Cruise’s lawyer Bert Fields sent his usual routine hostile letter. It’s standard whenever anyone’s investigating Tom. It always says if you say he’s gay we’ll sue.
"Years back, one journalist started checking around, and Cruise’s then PR sent word if she continued she’d never ever get another celebrity interview.
And she didn’t.
"However, I’ve already been terrorised by the best. Besides Brit tabloids who tried to blackmail my research, Diana brought me the full weight of the entire royal establishment. They were rabid dogs. Threatening me with the Tower Of London.
"But I wasn’t worried about losing any career job. They couldn’t use pressure to fire me because I’m a free agent." Morton adds that Cruise should be grateful his book killed the gay rumours that have plagued the star throughout his career: "Actually, with me saying in the book that he’s always had women in his life and that he’s not gay, instead of hassling me, his lawyers should be sending me cases of whiskey."

An animal rights campaigner sneaked into designer DONNA KARAN’s home on Thursday (07Feb08) to personally protest about her use of fur.
A People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) activist pretended to be delivering coffee to the couturier at her New York home, as she prepared for the city’s Fashion Week.
Once inside, the unnamed female confronted Karan and attempted to show her a DVD showing animals being killed for fur.
PETA is angry Karan has promised to ditch animal pelts, but still uses it on accessory lines.
Karan told the campaigner, "I’ve seen all these (videos). But for me it’s just purses and accessories. Nobody loves their dogs like I do." The activist was ejected from Karan’s home - but PETA has vowed to "keep up its protests of Donna Karan through Fashion Week".

CHLOE SEVIGNY clashed with the producers of her TV show BIG LOVE after she refused to strip off in the second season.
The actress has grown tired of nude scenes after posing naked in the show’s first season - and countless movie roles - so she insisted on staying fully clothed when the show returned for a second term.
She tells Blackbook magazine, "Those scenes are always forced. I did some nay topless scenes during the first season, I got really tired of it. (Producers) tried to put pressure on me at first saying, ‘Jeanne Tripplehorn shows her behind,’ and I said, ‘What? Any girl would rather show her behind than her boobies.’"

KATE HUDSON has hinted she and ex-husband CHRIS ROBINSON may one day reunite but she will never marry again.
The pair, who have a four-year-old son, officially ended their six-year marriage in October (07), but have remained close, and Hudson still considers him "family".
She reveals, "Hey you never know. Chris is my family. No matter what difficulties we go through in our life, we did something together that is powerful - we had a child." But Hudson has been put off marriage for life, and now prefers to follow the model set by her mother and stepfather Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, who have been happily unmarried for 25 years.

A fashion blogger has started rumours supermodel TYRA BANKS soiled herself backstage at New York Fashion Week.
Paper magazine’s Fabian Basabe claims the talk show host - a guest at the Manhattan event, having retired from the runway - suffered an embarrassing accident at a designer’s star-studded show.
Basabe writes, "Tyra Banks messed herself and needed to change. Now, let’s break this down: messing oneself should not happen if you are older than five or younger than 90, then it should be one, single, very unfortunate episode which will bound you to made fun of forever and you can’t complain about it." A number of guests have told the New York Daily News the claims are untrue.

KISS star GENE SIMMONS insists there is nothing he won’t do for his reality TV show, because he’s unashamed to reveal his life on camera.

KISS star GENE SIMMONS has blamed internet downloads for destroying the music industry - insisting there will never be any more legendary bands like THE BEATLES.
The 58-year-old rocker is convinced illegal downloading has forced record labels to conform to a new way of working that will eventually put them all out of business.
Simmons, who is known for his entrepreneurial skills, insists there is now less opportunity for talented new bands to find recognition because the internet is swamped with wannabes.
He says, "The very same people that love the music the most have slit its throat and they’re surprised it’s dying. ‘How come my new band can’t get a shot?’ ‘Because you killed it, bitch.’ "Every day college kids who probably love music more than anybody are the same people slashing the record industry’s throat by file sharing and downloading. It’s the saddest thing for new bands. Doesn’t affect me or Kiss.
We can continue to play stadiums and do very well, and we release DVDs.
"But there isn’t a chance for a new band to become the next Beatles or Kiss because there isn’t the infrastructure to do it."

HANNAH MONTANA star MILEY CYRUS is leading the way at the 2008 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards with three nominations.
The teen sensation received nods for Favourite Female Singer and Favourite Female Actress while her Hannah Montana programme is nominated for Favourite TV Show.
The 15-year-old will go up against Beyonce Knowles, Fergie and Alicia Keys for the Favourite Female Singer award, while the nominees in the Favourite Male Singer category are Bow Wow, Chris Brown, Soulja Boy and Justin Timberlake.

The Hollywood writers strike which has been crippling the U.S. entertainment industry since last year (07) is finally coming to an end.
A deal has been reached between the major media companies and the Writer’s Guild of America - whose members have been staging walkouts since November 2007 in an ongoing dispute over royalties.
Although details of the agreement have yet to be released, it is thought writers will receive a larger share of royalties received through Internet broadcasts of their work.
But the deal will still have to be approved by the Guild’s board and then ratified by the union’s 10,500 members before the strikes can officially come to an end. Speaking on U.S. TV channel CNBC former Walt Disney chief executive Michael Eisner revealed the agreement was reached last Friday (01Feb08) and he is sure the writers won’t turn it down.
He says, "It’s over. They made the deal, they shook hands on the deal.
"I have some friends in certain places and I believe there was a handshake last Friday… it’s possible they (the writers) will turn it down but it would be insane if they turned it down." Negotiations to end the walkouts were stepped up ahead of this month’s (Feb08) Oscars ceremony as fears grew the event would be cancelled if the union refused to grant organisers a waiver.
Last month’s (Jan08) Golden Globes, which usually takes the form of a glittering star-studded ceremony, was reduced to a televised press conference after the union announced plans to protest at the event, forcing the majority of attendees to vow not to cross the picket line. But if the deal is finalised it would give Oscar organisers the green light to go ahead with the star-studded ceremony as usual. A bathing suit worn by actress NICOLE KIDMAN is set to raise thousands of dollars (pounds) for disadvantaged families in India.
The swimsuit, left behind by the star at a Swedish pool in 2002, is on display at a second-hand shop in Esloev, Sweden and will be sold to the highest bidder on Saturday (09Feb08).
Owner Zlatko Nedanovski purchased the swimsuit for $840 (£420) from a local radio station but decided to donate the swimsuit to aid organisation Erikshjaelpen, which will use proceeds to purchase cows for Indian farmers.
Nedanovski says, "I have been in possession of this bathing suit for more than five years and the time has come for me to pay my dues, for instance through a charitable project."

SIR MICK JAGGER was so impressed by bandmate RONNIE WOOD’s paintings he offered to buy a piece of his artwork - but refused to pay the $140,000 (£70,000) price tag for it.
The Rolling Stones frontman is a fervent art collector who has spent thousands of dollars (pounds) for works by English surrealist Edward Burra but was shocked to learn how much his guitarist was charging for his work.
Wood explains, "Mick once put in an offer for one of my landscapes. But nothing came of it. "I think the price might have scared him away a bit. It was seventy grand or something."
