Movie star COLIN FARRELL struggled with his new-found sobriety on the set of IN BRUGES in Belgium - because he was surrounded by the best beers in the world.
The Irish hellraiser recently tackled his alcohol abuse issues with a spell in rehab and admits subsequently making a movie in one of the world’s beer meccas was a bad idea.
He explains, "There was an irony about working there, with 480 different beers, at that stage of my life.
"It would have been a different time had it been two years beforehand." Farrell admits he had to find another ‘healthier’ addiction to keep his mind off the ever-available alcohol.
He explains, "I ate a lot of chocolate crepes."

JANET JACKSON was so busy as a child she used trips to church to catch up on her sleep.
The tired pop star was a regular at Kingdom Hall prayer sessions and book readings growing up as a Jehovah’s Witness, but snoozed through them all, much to the disgust of her mother.
She tells Parade.com, "I’d get up on Sunday mornings, go to the Kingdom Hall, go again on Thursday night and go to book study on Tuesdays, because that was my mother’s routine.
"I believe in God. I feel that spiritual connection. But, most of the time, I didn’t pay attention… I was asleep. I know that’s awful (but) I was so tired, so busy, so knocked out.
"My mother would hit me on my thigh to wake me up: ‘Baby, wake up!’ She’d say, ‘Wake up and close your legs! You have on a dress!’ "So, I’d wake up and close my legs. A few minutes later, I’d be asleep again, and my head would fall back and my legs open up."

Humanitarian rocker BONO is organising a Valentine’s Day (14Feb08) art auction to raise money for the United Nations’ HIV relief program in Africa.
The U2 frontman is teaming up with British artist Damien Hirst to stage The (Red) Auction event at the Gagosian Gallery in New York City on 14 February (08).
Among the dozens of items available for sale at the fundraiser are seven Hirst artworks. Organisers hope to raise $29 million (£14.5 million) at the event.

GWYNETH PALTROW has returned to pal MADONNA’s Kabbalah faith amid reports she’s pregnant with her third child.
The actress was spotted leaving the Kabbalah Centre in New York last week (31Jan08) after spending an hour inside.
And a source tells America’s Life & Style magazine that Paltrow has turned to the Jewish faith for answers after a tough 2007.
One pal tells the publication, "Gwyneth just decided it was time to experience it (Kabbalah)… Gwyneth’s a seeker; she’s just looking into Kabbalah. She’s exploring her beliefs." Unconfirmed pregnancy reports spread last month (Jan08) after Paltrow and her husband, rocker Chris Martin, were spotted trying to sneak out of Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York.
Other reports suggest the actress may have undergone minor surgery. Her publicists have refused to address the matter.

BRITNEY SPEARS’ ex-husband KEVIN FEDERLINE has shelved his plans to become a reality TV star out of respect for the troubled pop star and her family.
The rapper/dancer is developing a project all about his life as a single dad of the two young sons he had with Spears during their brief marriage.
But sensitivities have prompted him to rethink the series after the Toxic singer was committed to a Los Angeles hospital for psychiatric tests last week (31Jan08).

BRITNEY SPEARS has been released from the psychiatric ward at UCLA Medical Center, according to new reports.
The pop star was committed to the Resnick Neuropsychiatric wing of the Los Angeles hospital on Thursday (31Jan07) upon the advice of her personal doctor.
Spears was initially placed on a 72-hour hold; this was upgraded to a 14-day stay at the weekend (03Feb08).
But the Los Angeles Times newspaper reports Spears was released on Wednesday morning (06Feb08).

ANGELINA JOLIE ruined a romantic lunch for THE HILLS lovebirds HEIDI MONTAG and SPENCER PRATT when she shut down their favourite restaurant for a meal with her kids.
The movie star asked staff at Los Angeles’ Il Pastaio to close the restaurant and refuse anyone entrance so she could dine in peace on 27 January (08), according to U.S. magazine Life & Style.
And so, when former engaged couple Pratt and Montag turned up and tried to get past doormen, they were told the restaurant was closed.
The puzzled pair chose another favourite restaurant and only learned hours later why their first choice was off limits.
Pratt says, "If I knew Angelina was inside, I would have gone in and said hello."

U.S. reality TV star CHERYL BURKE has split up with her actor boyfriend of one year, MATTHEW LAWRENCE.

Former Miss Nevada beauty queen KATIE REES is in trouble again after fighting with a police officer.
Rees was arrested early on Wednesday (06Feb08) after allegedly kicking a cop who pulled her over for speeding in Las Vegas and attempted to take her into custody.
Rees, who reportedly chipped a tooth in the altercation, was booked on charges of driving with no proof of insurance, driving with suspended license plates, speeding and resisting a police officer.
The 2006 Miss Nevada was stripped of her crown in December 2006 after inappropriate photos of the beauty queen appeared online.

CLOVERFIELD producer J.J. ABRAMS has dismissed reports the monster movie exploits the trauma suffered by New Yorkers in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the city.
Cloverfield follows the adventures of five people attempting to escape from a giant lizard who wreaks havoc in Manhattan - but Abrams insists filmgoers are wrong to take aim at his movie.
The filmmaker claims there are plenty of recent blockbusters that have used an apocalyptic New York as a backdrop.
Abrams says, "Anyone who is upset with Cloverfield must have had the same reaction to the recent Spider-Man films or I Am Legend or the King Kong remake."

Spanish actor JAVIER BARDEM suffered from "full-blown depression" after having his hair styled into a bizarre 1970s-style bowl-cut to play a sadistic killer in Oscar-nominated movie NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN.
Bardem, who is a favourite to win the Best Supporting Actor prize at the upcoming Academy Awards for his performance in the Coen Brothers film, was so ashamed of his new look, he avoided venturing out in public.
His co-star Josh Brolin says, "He was depressed during the process… He felt like he wouldn’t have sex for three months. Full-blown depression. I mean, bad.
(He) didn’t like the way he looked. He’d stay home for hours on end. He wouldn’t go out.
Bardem admits he was surprised by how his unusual look affected him psychologically.
He says, "You see yourself, you see the haircut. You don’t realise that it’s affecting you in a very delicate way, through your own psyche.
"What happened to me was that after a couple of weeks, I was a little bit - a little bit - strange to myself. There was something that was not familiar. It was like, ‘What am I doing here?’"

Australian model ELLE MACPHERSON has refused to confirm or deny reports she’s dating artist/filmmaker JULIAN SCHNABEL’s 21-year-old son, stating she’s close with "all the Schnabels".
The 44-year-old lingerie designer has been romantically linked to art dealer Vito Schnabel for weeks, but she has refused to talk about the relationship publicly.

Movie veteran DONALD SUTHERLAND was misdiagnosed with lung cancer after scuba training for his new movie FOOL’S GOLD left him coughing up blood.
The 72-year-old M*A*S*H star’s super-rich character was supposed to be a top diver in the treasure-hunt film, and so he took lessons in a bid to master scuba skills.
He passed his diving exams in Australia, where the film was shot last year (07) and then headed back for a Christmas (06) break before shooting began and that’s when doctors realised something was seriously wrong.
He recalls, "Two days before New Year’s Eve (06) I had excruciating pain in my chest. My wife took me to hospital and they couldn’t figure out what to do with me.
"They did CAT scans, blood tests, everything and the pain was excruciating, so they put me on morphine and it subsided.
"The next day, which was New Year’s Eve, I coughed and spit into my hand and looked at it and thought, ‘That’s weird, I don’t remember eating chocolate.’ I put my finger in the palm of my hand it wasn’t chocolate, it was blood.
"I went back to the hospital and they did a nuclear examination of my chest, and they found a growth and my oncologist said it’s almost certainly lung cancer." Sutherland was banned from returning to Australia and spent New Year’s Day 2007 in the Betty Ford cancer clinic, having tests done and fearing the worst.
He adds, "When I came to, my oncologist was standing over me and he said, ‘Have you been scuba diving?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, why?’ He said, ‘Because you’ve got a broken blood vessel in there and you should not be scuba diving at your age. People should stop scuba diving at the age of 50.’" As a result, Sutherland was forbidden from using his new-found scuba skills in the film: "I was not a happy camper but I was glad it was not cancer.
"I’ve since found out that a 72-year-old friend of my assistant’s father went scuba diving and died as a result - from the same kind of embolism."

U.S. federal officials have launched an investigation in a bid to discover how actor HEATH LEDGER was able to get the prescription drugs that caused his death last month (22Jan08).
On Wednesday (06Feb08), the New York Medical Examiner ruled the star died from an accidental overdose of six prescription medications, including painkillers, sleeping pills, anti-anxiety pills and antihistamines.
A statement from the Medical Examiner reads: "Mr. Heath Ledger died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam, and doxylamine.
"We have concluded that the manner of death is accident, resulting from the abuse of prescription medications." Now officials at America’s Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) have teamed up with police to find out how Ledger managed to obtain all his prescription drugs.
DEA spokesman Erin Mulvey says, "We are working with the NYPD to identify any illegally prescribed drugs that may have been prescribed to Ledger." Ledger, who was 28 when he died, is expected to be buried at his family’s plot in Karrakatta Cemetery in his native Perth, Australia on Saturday (09Feb08), with his ex-fiancee, Michelle Williams, and their two-year-old daughter Matilda in attendance.

Veteran band DEEP PURPLE is set to rock DMITRY MEDVEDEV into power as Russia’s next president after learning they’re the premier-to-be’s favourite group.
Medvedev has asked the British stars to play at a party to mark his farewell to colleagues at gas company Gazprom, of which he’s the outgoing chairman.
The Kremlin show will also mark Gazprom’s 15th anniversary.
Medvedev has become the clear favourite to replace outgoing president Vladimir Putin as Russia’s leader.

Rockers PEARL JAM have recorded a new track in support of U.S
. presidential candidate BARACK OBAMA.
The Seattle, Washington band has taped Rock Around Barack, an amended rendition of Bill Haley & The Comets’ classic Rock Around The Clock, to boost the Democrat’s White House campaign.
Guitarist Stone Gossard performs lead vocals on the track, which is available as a free download on Pearl Jam’s website, and doesn’t feature frontman Eddie Vedder.
Gossard says: "Rock Around The Clock was the first mainstream rock and roll hit in 1955 and it had a transforming effect on American music…
"I am, by no means, an expert on the history of rock and roll, but this was a big deal
. The rhythm of rock music and its energy were so overwhelming that traditional barriers of race and culture broke down with an enormous crash.

Rapper THE GAME is to plead guilty to felony gun charges in an effort to save the expense of a lengthy trial that could put him behind bars for five years.
The Dreams hitmaker stands accused of making criminal threats and possessing a firearm in a school zone during a fight in the middle of a basketball game last year (Feb07).
The Game - real name Jayceon Taylor - pleaded not guilty to all charges in September (07), but now he has changed his mind, even though he insists he’s still innocent.
He tells Monsta magazine, "The crazy part about this is that I’ve had guns before in my life. But this time I didn’t have a gun.
"Because one person said I had a gun and coaxed his homies into saying that I had a gun, I’m in a predicament where I’m asking, ‘Do I want to spend another million dollars to fight this trial, so who knows what jury’s gonna come in and say I’m guilty? Or do I want to save my money, go sit down for four months and accept this felony they’re trying to give me for no reason?’"
