Veteran actor RANDY QUAID has paid tribute to HEATH LEDGER, describing his late co-star’s turn in BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN as "one of the all-time great performances".
Quaid was shocked to hear 28-year-old Ledger had been found dead in his New York apartment last month (22Jan08), and believes Hollywood has lost one of its most talented actors.
He says, "Heath was a pretty low-key guy. We talked a bit while we were making the movie (Brokeback Mountain), mostly about Australian football - he was a big football player.
"The great actors are the ones that can slip into the role, lose their regular persona in the role, and Heath was able do that. He was a great actor.
His performance in Brokeback was one of the all-time great performances on film."

The restraining order issued against BRITNEY SPEARS’ self-proclaimed manager SAM LUTFI alleges he drugged the pop star.
The singer’s parents were granted the order against Lutfi last Friday (01Feb08) during an emergency court hearing in Los Angeles.
And the paperwork offers a damning portrait of Lutfi.
The six-page declaration, filed by Lynne and Jamie Spears at the end of last month (Jan08) claims Britney’s worried mum and a friend arrived at the singer’s home for an intervention and were treated to a shouting match between their daughter and Lutfi.
The declaration reads, "Sam had told Britney that she was an unfit mother, a piece of trash and a whore, that she cares more about Adnan, her current boyfriend, than she cares about her kids, and that she does not deserve the kids." Lynne Spears also claims Lutfi revealed he was giving her daughter drugs.
She states, "Sam told (friend) Jackie and me that he grinds up Britney’s pills, which were on the counter and included (sleeping medication) Risperdol (sic) and Seroquel.
"He told us that he puts them in her food and that was the reason she had been quiet for the last three days.
"She had been sleeping. He told us that the doctor who is treating her now is trying to get her into a sleep-induced coma so that they could give her drugs to heal her brain." Lynne Spears claims Lutfi then turned on her, raging, "I’m the one who spends 24/7 with your daughter. I sleep in cars outside her house so she can’t leave." He then allegedly told Spears’ mum, "You people throw everyone under the bus.
If you don’t listen to me I’m going to make your name s**t in the papers." Under the terms of the restraining order, Lutfi must stay 250 yards away from Spears, her parents and siblings.

CHRISTINA AGUILERA insisted on turning her baby son’s bris into a big celebration - and decorated her home with "penis balloons".
Aguilera, a Catholic, has adopted all the customs and holidays of her husband Jordan Bratman’s Jewish religion, and admits she now knows how to celebrate the rite of male circumcision.
The pop star refused to allow the sacred ceremony to become a sombre affair and turned the bris into a big party.
She says, "I’m not Jewish, my husband’s Jewish… I never really knew a lot of Jewish people growing up either, so I really had no idea about the bris and all the Jewish holidays. It’s all a learning process for me.
"It (bris) was a very sweet experience; we had a lot of close friends come over and experience the bris with us.
"We’re such a non-conventional couple, we had a lot of penis balloons everywhere." Aguilera and Bratman welcomed little Max Liron Bratman into the world on 12 January (08). The naming and circumcision ceremony took place on 20 January (08).
The bris usually takes place on the eighth day after the birth of the child and is attended by family and friends, who then join the parents for a celebratory meal.

Actress KEIRA KNIGHTLEY is auctioning the much-hyped green dress she wore in Oscar-nominated movie ATONEMENT to raise funds for a children’s charity.
The gown the 22-year-old’s character wears in the romance’s pivotal library sex scene is up for sale on the Clothes Off Our Back Foundation website. The non-profit organisation hopes to raise charity cash from the auction.
Proceeds will go to Variety - The Children’s Charity Of Southern California.
Bidding, which currently stands at $3,000 (£1,500), will end on 1 March (08).

LINDSAY LOHAN blames her turbulent family life for her meltdown last year (07), insisting she was running away from the chaos at home.
The actress spent the summer in rehab and 84 minutes in jail after two DUI incidents. Her party girl lifestyle also landed her in trouble with a Hollywood studio boss angry about her poor time-keeping.
Lohan lays the blame for her bad behaviour on the stress of her movie career and her father’s two-year prison sentence for violating his probation.
She tells Harper’s Bazaar magazine, “Not seeing my father was really hard for me, and not being with my family enough…
"I wasn’t taking any time to just sit and live and breathe. I was going, going, going, and that ran me down. It was a stressor. It upset me. I didn’t have a father to call, and that was a lot of the pain.
“I have it in me to go, go, go. I’m still young. I love life. I love music and being around that. I love people, and I’m a very social person. But I also love being home, quiet and normal… I’ve always been a homebody… Seriously, I was just running away from what my home had become.”

Lusty fans of Brazilian supermodel GISELE BUNDCHEN are set for a big disappointment - the stunner has dismissed reported plans to run naked through New York.
Bundchen allegedly told friends she’d run nude through the Big Apple if her boyfriend Tom Brady’s New England Patriots lost the Super Bowl to the New York Giants.
But her representatives insists the story is bogus and Bundchen won’t be putting on her running shoes after the Giants’ surprise win on Sunday (03Feb08).
A spokeswoman for the model says, "She didn’t say it. This is ridiculous."

British actor BARRY MORSE has died following a brief illness. He was 89.
Morse, who is best known for his role as a detective in pursuit of a wrongly-accused man in the 1960s TV show The Fugitive, passed away at University College Hospital in London on Saturday (02Feb08).
Born in 1918, Morse appeared on the West End stage in various productions before emigrating to Canada in 1951.
He then started making regular appearances on stage, radio and television totalling more than 3,000 roles by the end of his career.
But it’s his role as Lt. Philip Gerard in The Fugitive, which ran for 120 episodes, that Morse will be best remembered for.
His son Hayward Morse says, "He thought it was a good show - well-filmed, well-directed and well-acted. He had nothing disparaging to say about The Fugitive.'’

LATEST: Reality TV star KIM KARDASHIAN has dismissed credit card fraud claims against her as "meritless".
R&B singer Brandy’s manager/mother Sonja Norwood has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court, alleging Kardashian abused the use of a credit card given to her to make "one (and only one)" purchase on behalf of Norwood.
Kardashian, who worked as a stylist for Brandy in 2004, is accused of giving the American Express card to her siblings Khloe, Kourtney and Robert Jr, who are also named in the legal action.
The Kardashians are alleged to have run up debts of $120,635 (£60,317) on the card.
But Kardashian, who famously dated Brandy’s brother Ray J - and appeared in a sex tape with him, insists she is innocent.
Her spokesperson says, "The charges against the Kardashians are meritless.
Both Kim and Khloe were employed by the Norwoods and never used their credit cards without their express authorisation.
"The Kardashian family looks forward to proving the absurdity of these claims in a court of law."

Actor DANIEL BALDWIN has quit U.S. reality TV show CELEBRITY REHAB following claims he was inappropriate with castmate MARY CAREY.
The porn star alleges Trees Lounge star Baldwin asked her to send him photos of her after chatting about his wife and new baby, and now she feels that conversation led to Baldwin walking out on the show.
She recalls, "He talked about how much he loves his wife and then he asked me to send him pictures and asked about my movies." When the latest episode of the hard-hitting show airs in America on Thursday (07Feb08), Baldwin’s rehab pals, including Brigitte Nielsen and former wrestler Chyna, will be shown turning on the departed actor.
Nielsen says, "You open up your heart and then he is writing dirty messages on the phone." And his departure has prompted the show’s resident psychiatrist, Dr. Drew Pinsky, to worry about Baldwin’s sobriety.

Actress REBECCA DE MORNAY has been sentenced to a three-month rehabilitation program for drink driving offenders after pleading guilty to a DUI.
The Risky Business star, who was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after police pulled her over for a traffic violation in October (07), pleaded no contest to one count of DUI in a Los Angeles court on Tuesday (05Feb08).
De Mornay has also been placed on three years’ probation, fined $350 (£175) and ordered to pay court costs, reports TMZ.com.

Superstar songwriter NE-YO had SHANIA TWAIN and FAITH HILL in mind when he wrote BEYONCE KNOWLES’ biggest hit IRREPLACEABLE.
The song became the biggest hit of 2007 and is a favourite to land the coveted Record Of The Year at Sunday night’s (10Feb08) Grammy Awards - but it almost became a country anthem.
Ne-Yo wrote the tune with Norway’s Stargate duo Tor Hermansen and Mikkel Eriksen, and now Hermansen has spoken out about their initial plans for the hit.
He tells VH1.com, "Nobody expected it to be the phenomenon it was, it surprised everyone. For one, it crosses every boundary… and it’s a song people from all walks of life can enjoy.
"When we wrote it with Ne-Yo it was done first with a male vocal, and we thought, ‘This is more of a female vocal part.’ We liked it and so did Ne-Yo, but he said, ‘Who will cut this?’" Ne-Yo, who felt the song could be a massive country hit, favoured Twain or Hill, but Hermansen suggested Knowles because he’d recently been penning tunes for her.
The rest, as they say, is history.

Teenager SEAN KINGSTON has recorded a new version of ALICE COOPER’s classic I’M EIGHTEEN to encourage young Americans to register to vote in the upcoming presidential election.
Kingston, who turned 18 on Sunday (03Feb08), taped the track for the youth voting organisation Declare Yourself.
He says, "Turning 18 is a big deal, not just for me but for every young person in this country. It means all of a sudden you can do a lot of things, and one of those things is voting.
"I hope if someone checks out this song, it will make them want to hear more, learn more or do more - whether they’re 18 or 80." Kingston’s version of I’m Eighteen is available as a free download on website iTunes.

LED ZEPPELIN bass player JOHN PAUL JONES has added to the confusion about the rock supergroup’s future, revealing he has no idea if the band will reunite for more dates.
Jones, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page came together in December (07) for a one-off tribute concert performance in London and fans have been waiting for what they feel is an inevitable world tour announcement ever since.
But, apart from a promise to consider a tour after Plant concludes touring commitments with new musical partner Alison Krauss, there’s no definite news from Led Zeppelin.
And now Jones admits he’s as puzzled about future plans as fans are.
Speaking at the Folk Awards in London on Monday (04Feb08), the rocker said, "I am obliged to say we have absolutely no idea of what we are going to be doing." The comment comes a month after Page told a press conference in Japan that the supergroup was "musically ready" to go on a world tour.
And Plant recently told reporters at a New York Knicks basketball game, "You never know what is around the corner."
