Filmmaker JOE JOHNSTONE will take over the reigns of new movie WOLF MAN after original director MARK ROMANEK turned his back on the project.
Romanek quit the new Benicio Del Toro movie last week (30Jan08) citing "creative differences" for his departure.
But studio bosses at Universal Pictures swiftly hired Johnstone so filming could begin on the horror movie remake - which was scheduled to start on 18 February (08), according to Variety.
A spokesman for the studio says the 57-year-old will be officially named as the new director later this week (begs04Feb08).
However, Johnstone - who has also directed Jurassic Park III and Honey, I Shrunk The Kids - will not be able to make any changes to the script due to the current writers’ strike in Hollywood .

Danish supermodel HELENA CHRISTENSEN is coping with the death of her former lover HEATH LEDGER with the help of her eight-year-old son.
Christensen had stayed close to the Brokeback Mountain star following their brief fling last September (07), and she claims she was heading to his New York apartment when he died last month (22Jan08).
But Christensen admits caring for her son Mingus is helping her deal with Ledger’s sudden death.
She tells People.com, "Time passes. It’s doesn’t make it easier, but you try to do the best you can. When you have a child, they kind of bring you back to the moment in a really comforting way.
"Losing any friend is horrific, but he just had this thing about him - this special, enigmatic thing that I had never met in anyone before."

O.J. SIMPSON is seeking an injunction to ban prosecutors from mentioning the 1994 murder of his wife NICOLE and her friend RONALD GOLDMAN during his forthcoming robbery trial.
The American football star-turned-actor was acquitted of killing the pair, but found responsible for their deaths by a civil hearing.
Simpson is back in court later this year (08), to face charges of robbery and kidnapping - and is determined his link to the murders isn’t used against him by prosecutors.
His attorney Gabriel Grasso says, "We don’t want the state to be able to bring that up at all. That’s not part of this case." Grasso has also filed a bid for half of the twelve charges against Simpson to be dropped.
The star is accused of organising the armed robbery of two men selling memorabilia he claims belongs to him in Las Vegas.

RADIOHEAD frontman THOM YORKE is dreading his band’s summer tour of Europe because he is petrified of flying.
The Grammy-nominated musician has been forced to overcome his fears for the band’s first full tour in five years.

Newly healthy country star WILLIE NELSON has taken up jogging at the age of 74, in a bid to stay fit.
The life-long marijuana smoker recently kicked the drug and he has taken up exercise to boost his life expectancy.
He tells Spinner.com, "I have started running. What I was trying to do was do at least as much good in the daytime as I was destroying in the nighttime. But it got to the point where I was losing ground. "I had to start trying to stay alive or I was going to die. So I’ve had to give up the smoking and drinking. And when I quit that and started running, I got a lot healthier."

Actress ELLEN PAGE has slammed the U.S media for its treatment of troubled singer BRITNEY SPEARS, branding its behaviour "sickening".
The Juno star says she sympathises with Spears because she could have been in a similar situation had she begun her career at a younger age.
Page was asked to relocate to Los Angeles to star in a TV sitcom at just 13 but turned down the role to finish schooling in her native Canada.
And the 20-year-old is convinced that had she accepted the part, she could have been a misled teen - and a victim of the tabloids’ prying paparazzi.
She explains, "It definitely happens to some people and it doesn’t to others.
It’s really unfortunate - I wish there was more compassion for those people versus just relentless judgments. It’s sickening. Let’s splatter their face on newspapers every day and show them being taken out of their house on a stretcher! It’s like, why don’t we ask why this is happening? It makes me very angry."

Rockers ARCADE FIRE has accused a U.S TV network of using their music in an advertisement without permission.
The band claims their song No Cars Go was used in a commercial for the NFL (National Football League), which was aired on FOX TV during the Super Bowl half-time show on Sunday (03Feb08).
Advertising time during the Super Bowl half-time show costs around $100,000 (£50,000) per second. The band’s representatives are said to be looking into the matter.

Rare ELVIS PRESLEY memorabilia has been recovered during a police raid in Scotland.
An autographed photograph of Presley, a gold record and a framed scrap piece of paper with the lyrics to the 1971 song American Pie, apparently handwritten by singer Don McLean, were also recovered by authorities in Edinburgh.
Police believe the items are stolen goods.
A spokesman for the Lothian and Borders Police says, "The value of the items is not known, but they look genuine and if they have been stolen then we hope that the original owner will recognise them and contact us."

Singer Danny Woods recently attempted to shoot down increasing rumours the boyband is planning to reunite, insisting there had been "no discussion" of a comeback.

Late actor HEATH LEDGER will be buried next to his grandparents following a private funeral in his hometown of Perth, Western Australia.
The Brokeback Mountain star’s parents Kim and Sally Ledger have opted out of a public funeral, preferring to invite only close family and friends to the Karakatta Cemetery in Perth.
The Ledger family allegedly turned down an offer from his former school Guildford Grammar to use their chapel for the funeral, according to The Daily Sydney Telegraph.
However, the Ledgers have agreed to use the chapel if they choose to hold an Australian memorial service. They attended a private ceremony for the star in Hollywood on Sunday (03Feb08).
It is not known if Ledger’s former fiancee, Michelle Williams, will fly to Perth for the funeral.
Ledger was found dead in his New York apartment last month (22Jan08) at the age of 28.

PINK FLOYD guitarist ROGER WATERS has vowed never to use drugs again following a near-death experience while using acid.
The rocker took the hallucinogenic LSD while staying at the Hotel Chelsea in New York and, shortly after, discovered he had stepped in front of traffic in the middle of Eighth Avenue, according to New York gossip column PageSix.
Mark Blake, author of Pink Floyd biography Comfortably Numb, explains, "He found himself frozen, unable to move. It was his last experience with the drug."

Hollywood hardman SYLVESTER STALLONE once attacked RICHARD GERE on the set of 1970s movie THE LORDS OF FLATBUSH - because Gere accidentally spilt food over him.

Fashion house CALVIN KLEIN has pledged its support to its newest spokesperson EVA MENDES - despite her recent entry into a U.S. rehab facility.
