R. KELLY SUED BY CONCERT PROMOTER
A concert promoter is suing R. KELLY for putting a court hearing before his concert commitments.
The 40-year-old singer missed a court date relating to his child pornography trial in Chicago, Illinois on 19 December (07) and was told by a judge that if he failed to show up for a hearing on 20 December (07) then a warrant for his arrest would be activated.
Kelly then cancelled a 20 December concert at Minneapolis’ Target Center in Minnesota, which had already been postponed from 6 December (07).
He blamed the court appearance, but promoters at Royalty Records have filed a lawsuit in Atlanta District Court, accusing Kelly of never having any intention of performing the gig, despite taking his $120,000 (£60,000) appearance fee.
Royalty Records is seeking $120,000 plus damages, reports website TMZ.com.
Meanwhile, Kelly is awaiting his trial on 14 counts of having sex with a minor to start in May (08).
