PAKISTAN TO LIFT BOLLYWOOD BAN?
Officials in Pakistan have taken the first step toward lifting the ban on Bollywood movies in the country.
Indian films have been prohibited in the neighbouring state since the 1965 war between the two countries, and in recent years cinema owners have been pushing for a change in the law.
And now a parliamentary committee on culture has made a recommendation to the government that the ban should be lifted in a bid to boost the entertainment industry.
Senator Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry, who headed the committee, says, "We have devised a mechanism for allowing the import of Indian films for a period of one year, after which the arrangements can be reviewed." The Pakistani government have only ever made an exception to the ruling once - in 2006 the cultural ministry agreed to allow three Bollywood films to be screened across the country.
