Rockers BLIND MELON have recorded their first studio album since the death of frontman SHANNON HOON in 1995.
The No Rain hitmakers recruited singer Travis Warren to replace Hoon’s in the studio for For My Friends, which is due to be released in the U.S. on 22 April (08).
Warren tells Billboard.com, "This record’s a great rock ‘n’ roll record. It’s kind of like (1995’s) Soup - the more you listen to it, the more it grows on you." Hoon died of a cocaine overdose in October 1995.

Rapper LIL’ KIM has quit Atlantic Records after a lengthy business relationship with the label, founded by the late AHMET ERTEGUN.
The hitmaker plans to release her upcoming as-yet-untitled album, her first since her jail stint last year (07), independently.
Reports suggest Kim will join Fat Joe at Imperial Records.

The members of early-1980s pop duo YAZOO have reformed for a series of summer (08) shows.
Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet split in 1983 after scoring a string of hits, including Only You and Don’t Go.
Clarke went on to form Erasure with Andy Bell, while Moyet enjoyed initial solo success.
The pair has reformed to celebrate the upcoming release of a rarities and B-sides collection, called In Your Room.
The U.K. leg of the Reconnected tour will start in Scotland in June (08).
Dates in America, where the group enjoyed success as Yaz, are expected.

Legendary music mogul QUINCY JONES will be honoured with the National Association Of Broadcaster’s Celebration Of Service To America Leadership Award in June (08).
The 74-year-old will be handed the award in recognition of his longterm dedication to helping underprivileged kids with his Listen Up Foundation and We Are The Future Foundation.
The Celebration Of Service To America Leadership Award honours those who have "performed extraordinary public service in bettering the lives of others".
NAB’s David K. Rehr says, "For decades, Quincy Jones has served as a tireless advocate on behalf of underprivileged children throughout the world.
"The NAB Education Foundation is proud to honour him for his unwavering dedication to building a pathway toward a better future for all children in need."

Pop star PINK has been dubbed "ignorant" and a "stupid girl" after accusing New York carriage drivers of abusing their horses.
The singer - who is currently collaborating with People for the Ethical treatment of Animals - has appeared on billboards across the city, urging New Yorkers and tourists to boycott the traditional mode of transport.
She claimed, "Every time I see these horses in New York City, it hurts my heart.
"These horses aren’t taken care of at all - their hooves are made for grass and they’re forced to walk on concrete, and there’s fumes from all the Mercedes (traffic in the city), which the horses suck in all day long." But the Horse & Carriage Association has struck back - urging Pink and PETA to get their facts straight.
Spokesperson Carolyn Daly tells the New York Daily News, "They have specialized shoes for concrete. We haven’t had one animal cruelty violation from the three agencies that oversee us." Slamming the "ignorant comments of a B-list pop star", Day mocks a Pink song, adding, "A true Stupid Girl is one who talks publicly about something she knows nothing about."

Rapper 50 CENT has denied reports he is working on MICHAEL JACKSON’s comeback album - insisting the THRILLER star doesn’t need his help to make a hit record.
Jackson is said to have recruited some of the biggest names in hip-hop and R&B to collaborate with for his new disc, including the Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am, former Blackstreet frontman Teddy Riley and Akon.
But 50 Cent admits rumours of his involvement are all false.
He says, "It’s not true. Anyway, what can you possible teach Michael Jackson about music? Nothing."

LATEST: The father of troubled star AMY WINEHOUSE has criticised British tabloid newspapers for employing "underhand tactics" by publishing a video of his daughter indulging in a major drugs binge - insisting the singer is fine.
The footage - which was obtained by British newspaper The Sun - was taken at Winehouse’s East London apartment on Friday (18Jan08), the singer can be seen snorting powdered ecstasy and lighting up a crack pipe.
But Mitch Winehouse insists the Back to Black star is in good health and the film doesn’t tell him anything that he didn’t already know about the 24-year-old.
He tells celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, "I’ve spoken to her (Amy) already and she’s fine. She says she’s ok, so no problems. All that picture shows is what everybody knew anyway. "Yes, I am worried about her but this picture doesn’t show anything we didn’t already know before. It just shows me the tabloids are resorting to underhand tactics to expose her and we already know what the problems are." Winehouse has been battling her drug demons ever since she was rushed to a London hospital last August (07) after a drugs overdose.
But she has refused to seek professional help after insisting no rehab centre can cure her.

NATASHA BEDINGFIELD has disappointed fans after cancelling her forthcoming U.K.
tour - in favour of promotional commitments in America.
The These Words singer was due to kick off a series of dates next month (Feb08) but has been ordered by her U.S. record label to stay in country for the release of her second North American album, Pocketful of Sunshine LP on 22 January (08).
Her U.K. record label Sony BMG says, "It is with the greatest regret that Natasha Bedingfield has had to cancel her forthcoming U.K. tour.
"This is through no fault of Natasha herself, but due to her American record label insisting that she remains in the U.S. to promote the release of her album. All tickets will be reimbursed." However, Bedingfield has vowed to perform a series of free intimate gigs later this year (08) to apologise to her fans.

Singer KELLY ROWLAND hates the DESTINY’S CHILD song BOOTYLICIOUS - because she has heard it too many times.
The hit 2001 track, co-written by bandmate Beyonce Knowles, is ironically one of the few singles by the girl group which features Rowland on lead vocals.
But the 26-year-old insists she would rather hear any of the band’s other singles on the radio.
When asked which Destiny’s Child songs irritate her, she responded, "Bootylicious. "Sometimes I’ll go into (U.K. fashion retailer) Topshop or be at the airport and that song will play and I’ll go, ‘Nooooooo!’"

Supermodel KATE MOSS suing a British tabloid newspaper over claims she indulged in an orgy during her recent birthday celebrations.
The News Of The World reported the 34-year-old catwalk beauty took part in a steamy sex session with two female models and a man at the Dorchester Hotel in London last Wednesday (16Jan08) night. But a representative for Moss’ modelling agency Storm has hit back at the newspaper’s claims - calling the article "false and defamatory".

Troubled pop star BRITNEY SPEARS has called an emergency hearing with a judge in a desperate bid to see her sons as part of her mental health rehabilitation.
The singer’s lawyers have scheduled a session at an Los Angeles court on Wednesday (23Jan08) morning and will be asking for Spears to be allowed "monitored visitation in a therapeutic setting".
Commissioner Scott Gordon, who has been overseeing much of Spears’ custody case, has repeatedly ordered the Toxic hitmaker to undergo a mental check known as a 730 evaluation - which she has consistently refused.
But, according to TMZ.com, the star is now hoping the courts will allow her to see Sean Preston, two, and Jayden James, one, as part of a plan to allow the her to get mental health help in a "creative way".
Spears has been stripped of all custody and visitation rights following a string of bizarre incidents including an apparent breakdown earlier this month (Jan08) when she refused to hand her boys back to Federline following a scheduled visit. The incident sparked a lengthy stand off with police at her Beverly Hills home and culminated in the star being hospitalised under a mental health order.

British pop legend GEORGE MICHAEL’s forthcoming autobiography won’t shock his partner KENNY GOSS - because he already knows all the star’s secrets.
The former Wham! singer signed a deal with publishers HarperCollins earlier this month (Jan08), and the tome is expected to contain in depth accounts of Michael’s life, including his controversial arrest in 1998 when he was caught engaging in a lewd sex act in a Beverly Hills public toilet and his recent marijuana possession troubles.
But Goss insists he isn’t worried about reading every detail of Michael’s life, as none of the issues covered will come as a shock.
He says, "It should be a very interesting book because George is a very honest person. Anyway, I’m not expecting to read anything I don’t know already." Michael’s autobiography is slated for an August 2009 release.

Hollywood star NICOLAS CAGE nearly lost his face after a prop bomb accidentally blew up near him onset. The actor was filming action movie Windtalkers when the explosive detonated and burned off his facial hair.
He recalls, "My face almost melted off when a movie stunt went wrong. I was shooting Windtalkers in 2002 and there was a moment where I was going to be bombed pretty badly. "Everything is very safe on location, but sometimes nature just takes over.
The wind suddenly changed direction, I was very close to the bomb and, when it went off, all this fire shot towards my face. I could feel my eyebrows and hair burning. "I was completely stupefied but instinctively threw myself out of the way within a split second. If I hadn’t done that my face would be very different to the one I have today." Alison Silva claims the singer cleverly manages coverage of her current escapades, by maintaining constant contact with snappers - and even apologised after four were arrested while chasing her in Los Angeles last week (ends18Jan08).
She says, "Britney is in on it. She calls the paparazzi before she goes out.
We know 15 minutes before she leaves the house. It’s all staged.
