LATEST: Actress KATIE HOLMES has denied reports she is planning to take part in the Boston, Massachusetts marathon.
The Hollywood star was rumoured to have registered for the 26.2 mile (42.2 kilometre) race, which takes place in April (08), following her successful run in the New York City marathon in November (07). She completed that race in five hours and 30 minutes.
But Holmes’ publicist insists the claims are false, simply telling People.com, "Not true!"

Hollywood actor COLIN FARRELL made it a worthwhile Christmas for children suffering from leukaemia after making a surprise visit to a hospital in his native Ireland.
Farrell paid a visit to Crumlin Children’s Hospital on Christmas Day (25Dec07), a journey he has made for the past four years.
And the Miami Vice star turned Father Christmas for the day when he turned up with a trolley full of toys.
Teenage patient Emmet Rabitte’s mother, Joan, says, "He made Emmet’s Christmas and he made our Christmas."

SIR IAN McKELLEN, KEVIN SPACEY and SAMUEL WEST have passed a motion of no confidence in the Arts Council England over plans to cut the funding of nearly 200 organisations.
Members of the actors’ union Equity said consultation over the cuts had been too brief and that the criteria the decisions were based on were not clear.
Van Helsing star West says, "Cut funding to our smaller spaces and you eventually starve our larger ones to death." The motion of no confidence was passed at a meeting attended by nearly 500 members of Equity earlier this week (begs07Jan08).
Arts Council England has said it won’t make any final funding decisions until the end of the month (Jan08), but vowed to fund 80 new projects.

BURT REYNOLDS’ ex-wife LONI ANDERSON is to walk down the aisle for the fourth time, to wed folk singer BOB FLICK.
The 62-year-old actress and The Brothers Four star Flick first dated when they were in their 20s, but the relationship didn’t last. Anderson went on to marry and divorce Reynolds; Ross Bickell; and Bruce Hasselbeck, before reuniting with the 69-year-old Flick at a recent concert performance in Seattle.
The couple will marry on 17 May (08). Reynolds - who ditched Anderson in 1993 - won’t be invited to the ceremony, but their 19-year-old Quinton will give his mother away.
Anderson told a friend, "This one is for the rest of my life. I should have married Bob 40 years ago."

TV talk show host DR. PHIL McGRAW spent New Year’s Eve in hospital, after suffering a heart attack scare.
The 57-year-old psychologist checked himself into Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after falling severely ill.
A source tells the National Enquirer, "Phil was suddenly stricken by intense body aches, a high fever, and a severe, pounding headache.
"He waited it out for a little while at home, but his condition got worse. He was sweating profusely and feeling intense pain throughout his body. His wife Robin saw how much pain he was in, and at 10pm she insisted he go to the hospital." A series of tests ruled out a heart attack and McGraw was sent home with instructions to take painkillers, blaming the sudden illness on stress and a bad case of the flu.
McGraw made headlines last week (05Jan08), when he visited Britney Spears in hospital after her stand-off with police outside her Beverly Hills home, and was subsequently criticised by her family for speaking out about her need for help.

Comedian TRACEY MORGAN’s wife is filing for divorce, claiming the 30 ROCK star has lost his battle with alcoholism.
The 39-year-old star recently claimed he had been sober for months, spurred on by his three sons’ pleas for him to stay off alcohol.
But Sabina, his wife of 22 years, claims he is back on the booze.
She says, "I have to divorce him. I still have feelings for him, but the marriage is over.
"I’m having my lawyer file the divorce papers. I gave him every opportunity since August to stay in the marriage, but he’s failed.
"It’s terrible that he’s drinking again. He knows he shouldn’t be doing that for so many reasons, his health especially."

SIMON COWELL has spoken out about past AMERICAN IDOL contestants TAYLOR HICKS, RUBEN STUDDARD and KATHARINE McPHEE losing their record deals, blaming the unpredictability of the music industry for their disastrous album sales.
Singer McPhee became the latest star to be dropped by her record label, RCA Records - a subsidiary of Sony BMG - in the space of three weeks on Wednesday (09Jan08), after poor sales of her latest self-titled release.
But Cowell insists artists cannot get too comfortable just because they’re signed to a big label.
He says, "It’s a reflection on the unpredictability of the record business.
Fortunately, we got it right more than we got it wrong. "There’s no scientific way to explain what happens. It’s a reality show and what happens at the end is also reality." And the judge is hoping the winner of the upcoming series will release a more promising debut album than 2007 winner Jordin Sparks and runner-up Blake Lewis, who both failed to score number one hits.
He adds, "Naturally, I’m disappointed that they didn’t sell more copies or that neither artist has caught on fire. What you want (is) a Carrie (Underwood), Daughtry or Kelly Clarkson, where they’re competing with the Mariahs. It didn’t happen.
"Am I surprised? Not particularly. The public decided it’s not necessarily what they wanted, so we have to try to do better this year."

Rapper LIL’ WAYNE is facing legal action from a California car customiser over $80,000 (£40,000) in unpaid bills for work carried out on the star’s Bentley in 2005.
The Go DJ lyricist - real name Dwayne Carter - is being sued for breach of contract by LeMarck deAndre, after the hip-hop star allegedly reneged on a deal to cover costs of modifying his 1999 Bentley Arnage.
In the lawsuit, filed in the Superior Court of California last month (Dec07), deAndre claims he initially received a payment of $78,507 (£39,253) from Carter in August 2006 - 10 months after the invoice was originally due.
But as the late payment breached their initial customisation contract, deAndre cancelled the job completely and demanded extra cash to cover the costs of parts already ordered and the cost of shipping the expensive vehicle back to Carter’s New Orleans, Louisiana, home. Carter agreed to the deal, totalling $79,200 (£39,600), but has since failed to honour his word, according to the suit.
Businessman deAndre is seeking the $79,200 in damages, in addition to $200 (£100) for each day since 1 November (07), and legal costs.

LATEST: Former AMERICAN IDOL contestant JESSICA SIERRA has been banned from talking about her legal woes, after ignoring a judge’s advice to stop courting the media.
The 22-year-old was released from a Florida jail on Wednesday (09Jan08) to fly to a Pasadena recovery centre after a judge on Monday (07Jan08) sentenced her to complete one year at the California clinic to kick her cocaine habit.
But the star was refused treatment by the California Department of Probation and returned to a Tampa, Florida court on Thursday (10Jan08) to hear a decision on her fate.
And Sierra - who was ordered to keep away from the press on Monday - decided to go against the judge’s warning and speak to the press waiting outside the courthouse, reports TMZ.com.
She said, "I just want to thank my lawyer for being there and of course Dr.
(Drew) Pinsky for coming to speak on my behalf." As a result, Sierra has been barred from further TV and press appearances, with the judge telling her: "Those mics are like a magnet to you, so I tell you what - you’re not allowed within 100 yards of a mic or a TV camera." Sierra was charged with disorderly intoxication, drug possession, resisting arrest and violating conditions of her parole on earlier felony battery and possession charges after her arrest following a drunken bar brawl in December (07).
A Tampa judge on Monday agreed to give Sierra a break by placing her on three years’ probation and sentencing her to one year’s treatment at the California rehab clinic.

LOST star MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ has been released early from prison - because it was overcrowded.
The actress was sentenced to 180 days in jail after violating her probation for driving under the influence. She had admitted failing to complete community service after submitting a false document to show she carried out the work on 25 September (07).
The 29-year-old was also found to have consumed alcohol on at least three occasions while wearing a monitoring bracelet around her ankle, in violation of a probation requirement she refrain from drinking for 90 days.
Rodriguez booked herself into the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, Los Angeles on 24 December (07), but was released on Wednesday (09Jan08) after serving just 17 days.
According to website TMZ.com, Rodriguez was released due to severe overcrowding at the prison, despite the judge who sentenced the actress ordering her to complete the full term.

Actor ALEC BALDWIN is calling on the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) to allow its members to attend next month’s (Feb08) Academy Awards ceremony - because it is more important than the Golden Globe Awards.
Organisers of the Golden Globe Awards were forced to cancel its annual ceremony on Sunday (13Jan08) because SAG pledged its members would not cross the Writers Guild Of America’s picket line.
But Baldwin is hoping they will not boycott the Oscars ceremony, due to take place on 22 February (08), because it is an important occasion for Hollywood’s actors.
He says, "The Globes appear to be dead. The Oscars are next. And there is a monumental difference between those two.
"One is a pleasant evening hosted by a fraternity of international journalists who choose to recognise the work of those they admire. The other is an evening of history. To accept an Oscar is to take one’s place among the greatest actors of all time."

A man accused of stalking KILL BILL star UMA THURMAN rejected a plea deal to enrol on a mental health programme - because he wanted to see the actress "close up".
Jack Jordan is facing charges of harassment and felony coercion - which stems from an incident in which he allegedly told Thurman he would kill himself if he saw her with another man.
The 35-year-old, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges at Manhattan’s Supreme Court in New York, turned down the prosecution’s offer of enrolment in a mental health programme - a deal which would have seen him serve a minimum of one year in an institution.
And according to his lawyer, George Vomvolakis, Jordan purposely rejected the offer so he could see Thurman at his trial.
Vomvolakis tells the New York Daily News, "My client has expressed a serious desire to go to trial."

A source told the New York Post’s PageSix, "The doorman told him he couldn’t let a big group in, but could let in two people."
