Pop star JESSICA SIMPSON is keeping her promise to return to her musical roots - she’s started work on her first country album.
The singer/actress revealed her plans for a new musical direction in an interview last year (07) - and Simpson has stayed true to her word.
She tells Billboard magazine, "I am a country girl. I grew up in Texas, and country music was what I listened to.
"I always wanted to wait until the time was right." Simpson has been working with country legend Willie Nelson on the follow-up to her 2006 album, A Public Affair.

Former THE O.C. star MISCHA BARTON has praised the paparazzi for helping her during her everyday chores.
The actress used to be terrified when surrounded by photographers, but now she’s grown to appreciate their constant presence.
She says, "When I first saw any paparazzi, I was freaked and was really mean to them: I’d never look at them, and would tell them to go away.
"That doesn’t work so I’m nice now, and they are quite sweet. They open car doors, help with dog leashes and hand me my coffee."

Pregnant star NICOLE RICHIE suffered a terrifying health scare over Christmas, just weeks before she is due to give birth to her first child with JOEL MADDEN.
According to America’s Star magazine, the 26-year-old became dizzy and disorientated at Madden’s California home on 26 December (07). The Good Charlotte rocker whisked her off to the doctor, who checked the unborn baby and gave both mother and child the all-clear.
A source tells the magazine, "Her heart was racing - she was swearing and had the terrifying feeling the world was crashing in on her. She was scared to death that her baby’s health was in jeopardy.
"Thank God Joel was there to take care of her. He immediately called their doctor to say he would bring her in." The scare was particularly terrifying for the couple, coming just five months after she was taken to hospital in Los Angeles suffering heavy bleeding.
Friends say doctors told Richie to slow down and rest ahead of the upcoming birth. The source adds, "She’s been going at a frantic pace for months. Her body let her know it was time to slow down and make the baby’s health her top priority."

Pop star JANET JACKSON is predicting a baby boom nine months after her new album is released - because her music is the ultimate aphrodisiac.
The 41-year-old claims she is constantly confronted by fans who have conceived kids while listening to her tunes.
She says, "You don’t know how many people come up to me and say, ‘This child was conceived listening to you.’ With a new LP Discipline on the way, Jackson reveals there are tracks on there that will inspire more couples to procreate: "I love the dance. I love the mid tempo stuff. I love the slow songs and the baby making songs. It still has that element to it."

Blues singer SYL JOHNSON is suing stars including MICHAEL JACKSON, WILL SMITH and TUPAC SHAKUR for copyright infringement, claiming they illegally sampled his song DIFFERENT STROKES without giving him credit for the track.
The veteran star filed suit recently in an Illinois court, claiming Jackson’s hit Blood on the Dance Floor, Smith’s Who Stole the D.J. and the late Shakur’s Peep Game all used his song - without paying for the rights to do so.
Johnson - real name Sylvester Thompson has also filed papers against the legendary rap group N.W.A. for their song Real N**gaz Don’t Die, and KRS-One, for his track Criminal Minded.
The respective acts’ record labels have also been named in the legal papers.
Johnson is seeking unspecified damages, reports TMZ.com.

BRITNEY SPEARS’ sister JAMIE LYNN has quashed fears she’s not ready for motherhood by enlisting her mum LYNNE to teach her the art of bringing up baby.
The 16-year-old announced her pregnancy last month (Dec07), sparking concerns she’s too young to raise a child.
However, Spears insists her mum will be on constant call to guide her through the stress and strains of looking after a newborn.
She tells British magazine Heat, "My mom will be helping me so much. I have to take responsibility and do a lot of it myself, but she’s going to have to teach me so much. I’m sure it’ll get hard at times. I’m sure I’ll be grumpy.
"I love babies. I have a great mom and she has raised three kids, so if I take lessons from her, I think it’ll be great." Lynne Spears was due to release a parenting book last year (07), but it was postponed when Jamie Lynn revealed she was expecting a child with 19-year-old Casey Aldridge.

KEIRA KNIGHTLEY is planning to go back to university when her Hollywood career starts to dwindle.
The Atonement actress, 22, is convinced the hype surrounding her will eventually subside - but it’s this unpredictability that excites her so much about her current profession.
And Knightley refuses to fear the end of her movie career, insisting she’ll merely pick a new profession of choice and study about it in college.
She tells OK! magazine, "I think it (film acting) is a profession that gets blown up and down in an instant, and that’s cool, and for me, that’s what I find beautiful about it. It’s not going to last forever, so at some point I will have to move on, and I’ll do something else, and that’s fine.
"I haven’t got a clue what it is, but when I do know, I’ll go back to university, I’ll study something, and I’ll become it."

CHRISTINA AGUILERA and KATIE HOLMES have signed to star together in a new movie.
The pair will team up in family drama Humboldt Park, which will begin shooting in February (08) - just weeks after Aguilera is due to give birth to her first child.
A source says, "(Holmes) is trying to prove she can do more than fluffy popcorn movies", and starring alongside Aguilera "shows she’s willing to take risks".

Late actor TOM MURPHY is to be honoured in his adopted Ireland with a special screening of his cult hit, ADAM & PAUL.
Murphy died suddenly from complications from cancer Hodgkin’s lymphoma in October (07) - and the Irish Film Institute (IFI) wants to pay tribute to the star on what would have been his 40th birthday on 15 January (08).
The IFI will hold a gala reception and screening on Murphy’s work, including showings of his TV work, including an episode of TV drama Pure Mule, and the gritty Adam & Paul.

ORLANDO BLOOM was forced to split up a brawl on the set of a British TV show when his dog snapped at the sight of Irish comic GRAHAM NORTON’s pooch.
The Hollywood actor was preparing for his guest spot on The Graham Norton Show last year (07) with his furry friend in tow, prompting the funnyman to introduce his own dogs to Bloom’s pet.
But Norton soon regretted his decision when the actor’s animal bared its teeth and launched a "vicious" attack on his dog Bailey.
Norton tells Britain’s Heat magazine, "Orlando Bloom brought his dog along to the show and I said, ‘I have my two dogs here. Would they like to meet?’ And he said, ‘That’s a great idea.’ So I bring them to his dressing room for a meeting and his dog just goes really vicious and attacks my dog Bailey.
"And Orlando goes, ‘Oh, sometimes he’s a bit odd with other dogs… I got him in a Moroccan street market.’ Then I read somewhere that it had attacked another dog in Hampstead (England). That’s a wild dog!"

The original CHARLIE’S ANGELS have been reunited by FARRAH FAWCETT’s cancer battle.
The 60-year-old actress is currently jetting between her U.S. home and a clinic in Germany where she is being treated for anal cancer.
According to American tabloid the National Enquirer, she is being comforted between trips by former co-stars and cancer survivors Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith.
Jackson beat two bouts of breast cancer in 1987 and 1989 and Jaclyn won her fight with the disease in 2002.
A source tells the tabloid, "Jaclyn and Kate have been there for Farrah throughout her cancer ordeal.
"They’re constantly dropping by to check up on her, bringing meals and special treats. And they all talk by phone daily."

Magician DAVID COPPERFIELD once tried to force himself on a woman in the back of his limousine, his former chauffeur claims.
John St. John has told American tabloid the National Enquirer the incident took place in Ottawa, Canada in 1996, while Copperfield, 51, was engaged to Claudia Schiffer.
St. John was ordered to pick up the woman - a Schiffer lookalike - and then drive around the city while Copperfield attempted to seduce her.
He tells the tabloid, "I know when someone is having consensual sex in my limousine, but what was going on this time was different.
"They were struggling and I heard raised voices. I could hear the girl saying: ‘No. Get off me’ and ‘Stop’.
"It was the first time as a driver that I didn’t know what to do. I am a father of three daughters and I knew I would be kissing my career goodbye by dragging Copperfield out of the car - but I thought I had no other option.
"Just then I heard David call me on the intercom saying: ‘Take me back.’" Copperfield’s representatives have described St.John’s claims as "fiction" but they come at the same time a U.S. grand jury is investigating the star for the alleged rape of a 21-year-old woman in the Bahamas in July (06).
St. John has offered to testify against the illusionist in court if asked to recount his claims.

Former FRANKIE VALLI AND THE FOUR SEASONS star TOMMY DeVITO is facing legal action from the widow of late theatre writer REX CONRAD WOODARD, over profits made from hit Broadway musical JERSEY BOYS.
Donna Corbello claims the Broadway show is based on her late husband’s as-yet-unpublished biography of DeVito - which he finished shortly before his death in 1991 - and she’s suing the ex-bassist for a cut of the takings.
According to a lawsuit filed in the District Court in Beaumont, Texas, last week (28Dec07), Corbello is suing for breach of contract, alleging that DeVito failed to credit Woodard as a co-writer for the musical.
Corbello is also appealing to have her husband officially declared as a "co-author" so that she will be entitled to future revenue from the Jersey Boys, reports TMZ.com.
