A US window-cleaner miraculously survived falling 47-storeys from a skyscraper.
Alcides Moreno and his brother, Edgar, were on top of New York’s Solow Tower butofficials suspect their cables were not secured properly and they were either dragged or fell off the top of the building.
The pair would have fallen at a speed of about 124mph, the speed at which gravity pulling someone down is balanced by upward air friction.
But Alcides was clinging on to a 1,250lb piece of scaffolding, called a Louisville Ladder, which may have slowed his fall.
Sadly, Edgar died instantly.
Dr Sheldon Teperman said: "Fifty per cent of people who fall four to five storeys die.
"By the time you reach 10 or 11 storeys, just about everyone dies. This guy absolutely should have died."

A US mother has been jailed for coaxing her two-year-old daughter to smoke a cigarette.
Sandra Venery gave the tobacco stick to the tot and filmed her attempting to inhale it, before posting it on internet networking site MySpace.
Margie Long, of Virginia Beach police in the US, said: "The MySpace video was depicting a two-year-old toddler attempting to smoke a cigarette and using profanity. "In the same video there’s a voice of an adult female trying to coax the child to do this. "There’s an adult trying to coax a child to smoke a cigarette and there’s a legal limit of 18 in order to be able to purchase and smoke a cigarette. So that’s a cause for concern."

A Canadian man has had silicone breast implants in his leg – to make his tattoo of a buxom lady look more realistic.
Lane Jensen, who already has a number of tattoos, decided his figure wasn’t voluptuous enough so had it surgically enhanced.
Brian Decker, owner of the firm Pure Body Arts, carried out the strange surgery which lasted just 45 minutes and Lane – who was left with a small bruise – was delighted with the results.

A 100-year-old Japanese man, who was arrested after his car hit an umbrella held by a child, claims he needs to stay on the roads to keep him from going senile.
Masaru Hori – who has arrested for a number of driving offences in recent months - was spotted by an officer committing the offence and taken into custody, where it transpired he had been driving without a licence.
The elderly man told police: "Driving helps me from going senile because it keeps me alert.” He also promised to stop driving illegally, saying: "I’ll never drive without a licence again.” Hori’s license was revoked after a hit-and-run incident in August, and was involved in a similar accident last month.
The child involved in the latest incident was not hurt.

A US has man accidentally shot himself in the butt.
Daniel Leatherman, 26, from Arizona, told police he injured himself when he went to investigate an argument between a man he knew and a taxi driver outside his apartment.
Leatherman explained he took his gun with him for protection, as the man who was causing the racket, Cody Nunn, had assaulted him in the past.
Leatherman accidentally dropped his weapon as he tried to conceal it behind his back. The gun went off as it hit the floor and a bullet got lodged in his buttocks.
Leatherman was taken to hospital and released later on the same day.
Nunn – who was said to be drunk and disruptive when he arrived at the hospital with Leatherman – was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct.

A US man has finally graduated after 50 years.
Clarence Garrett – who gave up his studies to concentrate on raising a family in the 40s – returned to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee as a full-time student last year and got a standing ovation as he collected his degree.
The black ex-World War II soldier – who was cheered on by his wife, children and grandchildren – said he loved his university experience.
The 87-year-old said: “After all my children went to college … I said, ‘Why shouldn’t I?’ And I have loved it ever since." University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Chancellor Carlos Santiago said: “We are not sure if Clarence Garrett is the oldest to ever graduate from UWM, but we do know that there had not been a graduate for some time who was born when the president was Woodrow Wilson.”

A US couple celebrated getting married by leaping out of a plane.
Jeanie Dulski and Jamy Knittle tied the knot at Pennsylvania’s Hazleton Municipal Airport, before taking a plane up to 10,000 feet and going skydiving.
Dulski explained: "Getting married is scarier than jumping out of a plane." Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta, who performed the marriage ceremony, said it was the most unusual wedding he had ever witnessed.
He joked: “I’m sure my wife would like to see me jump out of an airplane without a parachute.”

A drunk Cambodian man got a nasty shock when a puppy bit into his penis as he was urinating through a fence.
Kann Veasna had to relieve himself after a heavy day drinking wine from a street stall in Phnom Penh and put his manhood through a hole in a fence.
The pet reportedly thought the man’s member was a toy and eagerly latched on to it.
Veasna managed to struggle free and headed straight to a nearby hospital where he had to explain the embarrassing episode to staff, who treated the lacerations on his appendage.
A doctor said: “It’s undoubtedly sore now, but luckily it should still be useful to him in the future.”

A US woman, who was charged for swearing at her own toilet, has escaped a prison sentence.
Dawn Herb, 31, of Pennsylvania, faced up to 90 days in jail and a £150 fine for disorderly conduct after her neighbour, an off-duty policeman, Patrick Gilman, overheard her shouting profanities at her loo.
Gilman claims he heard Herb scream, "Are you f***ing retarded? Get me the f***ing mop" through her open bathroom window.
District Judge Terrence Gallagher has now ruled Herb did nothing wrong, saying it was her constitutional right.
He ruled: “The language she used may be considered by some to be offensive, vulgar and imprudent but she was entitled to use it under the First Amendment.”

A British farmer’s wife has set up a school in a derelict cow shed. Anne Miller had been a teacher at the local village primary but lost her job when it closed, so she and husband Geoffrey set up their own private school at Hollyfields farm at West Bourton, near Gillingham, Dorset.
The Millers spent £250,000 converting the old cow shed into two classrooms, toilets, office and staff room.
The farmyard is now a concrete playground and the old vegetable patch is the football pitch.
Mrs Miller, 50, said: "We have lots of animals running about and the children get to interact with them and see life cycles all year round." She employs four staff - all former colleagues from the old school - to help look after the 23 four to nine-year-olds.

A German man was nearly killed after he downed two pints of vodka instead of handing it over at an airport security check.
The 64-year-old male was switching planes at Nuremberg airport after a holiday in Egypt and was told by officials he would have to either throw out the bottle of spirit or pay a fee to have his carryon bag checked as cargo.
Instead, he chugged the bottle down - and was quickly unable to stand or otherwise function.
A doctor called to the scene determined he had possibly life-threatening alcohol poisoning, and he was sent to a Nuremberg clinic for treatment. The man, whose name was not released, is expected to be able to complete his journey home in a few days.

A burger stall in Prague is set to be shut down – because it attracts tramps.
The fast-food venture, in Good King Wenceslas Square, is a popular hang-out for homeless people but officials say they’re harming the city’s reputation.
A spokesman said: “We are fed up with the sight of tramps rummaging in the bins looking for left-over food – it is upsetting for the tourists and spoils one of our most visited attractions.”

A British chief constable broke into his own police force’s headquarters as he wanted to test out their security.
Richard Brunstrom waited until dark before climbing up the scaffolding to get through an upper floor window.
He decided to see how secure the building was after scaffolding was put up as part of a £3.4million refurbishment.
A spokeswoman for North Wales Police confirmed: "We can confirm that the chief constable tested the security himself." Brunstrom has previously let himself be shot with a 50,000-volt Taser stun-gun to prove they are safe.

A swan has dumped its plastic lover after finding romance with another bird.
Petra, a rare Black Australian swan, had made international headlines after falling in love with a pedal boat.
But she has now fallen for a young swan at a zoo in Germany where it was being housed for the winter.
Zoo keepers are watching her to see whether she will forget entirely about her plastic lover.

An Indian holy man was rushed to hospital after two men cut off his ‘magical’ leg and ran off with it.
Yanadi Kondaiah, 80, claimed those who touched his leg would be cured of illness or have wishes granted.
But two male strangers plied him with alcohol, then cut off his leg with a sickle.
Local police sub-Inspector Pendakanti Dastgiri said: "They took him to a deserted spot in the outskirts of the village. After the old man had passed out under the influence of liquor, they cut off his right leg from the knee." The victim was then left alone, bleeding heavily, until he was found by passing villagers and taken to hospital.

A US policeman is making convicted drink drivers were pink underpants.
Joe Arpaio, dubbed ‘America’s toughest sheriff’, is also forcing them to work in a chain gang to perform public burials of people who died of alcohol abuse.
He said: "Maybe this will warn people - knock it off, don’t drink and drive. You’ll end up in pink underwear on the chain gang." The drink drive convicts perform burials at a local cemetery where many homeless alcoholics are buried.

A man is suing a US city for denying him his constitutional right to hold sex parties in his own home.
Jim Trulock – who turns his home into ‘The Cherry Pit’ every weekend - has filed a lawsuit against the Dallas city of Duncanville after officials approved a ban on sex clubs.
The council claim they passed the decree following complaints about Trulock’s racy get-togethers, which can attract up to 100 people and include games like ‘Naked Twister.
Trulock claims the city having no ‘constitutionally acceptable’ grounds to enforce the rule.

An Israeli inmate has been paid $1,000 in compensation after complaining at having to share a cell with cockroaches.
Mordechai Yehudai filed a lawsuit citing poor hygiene, a lack of fresh air, broken windows and fellow inmates who smoke.
Adjudicating in his favour, judge Irit Cohen said: “The Prison Service mistreated the plaintiff in a number of ways, including broken windows, cockroaches and incarceration with smokers.” A spokeswoman for the Israeli prison service said Yehudai’s cell would be cleaned up.
She added: “Prisoners have the right to sue us whenever they see fit and we comply with the court’s rulings.”
