LATEST: Singer AMY WINEHOUSE has been released on bail following her arrest on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
The Rehab singer was arrested on Tuesday afternoon (18Dec07) after voluntarily turning herself in at a police station in Shoreditch, London for questioning.
A police spokeswoman says, "A 24-year-old woman has been bailed to return to an east London police station on a date in early March pending further inquiries." Winehouse was first implicated in a bribery plot involving her jailed husband Blake Fielder-Civil on Sunday (16Dec07).
Fielder-Civil is currently being held on remand at London’s Pentonville Prison and is awaiting trial on a similar charge after he attempted to fix the outcome of his trial for grievous bodily harm.
He is alleged to have assaulted barman James King in June last year (06), and stands accused of trying to pay off King with $400,000 (£200,000) and a free holiday in return for withdrawing his statement.
Winehouse’s arrest comes just days after police confiscated her mobile phone records, bank details and computer software, which could provide evidence of the star’s alleged involvement in the plot.
Last week (begs10Dec07) cops also visited the singer’s accountants, the prestigious London-based firm Smallfield Cody, in an attempt to track all of her financial dealings.
Winehouse has yet to be charged with any crime.

50 CENT has become the biggest star to perform in Kosovo, after playing a sold-out gig in the Eastern European state on Monday night (17Dec07).
The rapper made history with his concert in a Pristina soccer stadium, where 25,000 people turned out to see him.
Speaking before the show, the tough rap star addressed threats of violence aimed at him as he travels through Eastern Europe, stating he would never consider cancelling a show.
He said, "I haven’t missed a show date in my career.
"I’ve been to Iraq. I performed for the soldiers. I’ve been to Israel. I’ve been to Beirut. They actually bombed the week after I left." And the In Da Club star believes his own troubled background is what attracts fans in Kosovo: "I know exactly what happens when the guns come out. Maybe that’s why they (identify) with me." Kosovo has been run by the United Nations since the end of the Eastern European war in 1999. The threat of increased violence is a result of the country’s impending declaration of independence from Serbia.

EDWARD NORTON has followed the lead of his FIGHT CLUB co-star BRAD PITT and quit political drama STATE OF PLAY.
Pitt walked away from the film just before Thanksgiving (22Nov07) and has since been replaced by Russell Crowe. Ben Affleck is among the favourites to take over Norton’s role.
Director Kevin Macdonald still hopes to start shooting the film early in 2008 after stalling the project’s late November (07) start following Pitt’s departure.
If Affleck takes on the role vacated by Norton, he’ll play a young politician caught up in a murder conspiracy investigated by journalist Crowe, who once worked for the candidate.
Dame Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams and Robin Wright Penn are still attached to the film.

NICOLE KIDMAN stunned sick kids at the Sydney Children’s Hospital in Australia on Tuesday (18Dec07) with a visit.
The Aussie actress hosted a screening of her new hit film The Golden Compass for the young patients facing Christmas in the hospital, for which she’s an ambassador.
Wearing a form-fitting black dress, Kidman posed for pictures and signed autographs at the Moore Park hospital.
She then spoke to the kids and their families, stating, "This is a small gesture and I would just like to say I wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy new year." Kidman added a cautionary note: "I play a villain in this film, so to all the little kids - don’t stay." The star then told her captive audience that she hopes to screen the movie she’s currently filming, Australia, for the kids and their families next Christmas (08).
But it was Kidman who got the night’s best surprise when a seven-year-old cancer patient she met at a screening of Happy Feet last Christmas (06) presented her with a bouquet of flowers.

BRITNEY SPEARS’ custody battle hit another bump on Tuesday (18Dec07) when the pop star was noticeably unprepared for a visit from her two young kids.
The singer wasn’t even at home when Sean Preston and Jayden James were dropped off by ex-husband Kevin Federline’s bodyguard/driver.
She had been staying at the Peninsula Hotel after a night out with friends and was almost 30 minutes late to greet her kids.
Upon her arrival, a nanny was dispatched to a nearby supermarket to pick up milk and juice for the boys.
A photographer staking out the Spears compound says, "Britney arrived really flustered and obviously had other things on her mind. The nanny went shopping as soon as she arrived." The slip-up came just hours after Federline’s attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan won a delay for the latest custody hearing, claiming he needed time to reschedule a deposition meeting with Spears and review what she says under oath.
The next hearing will now take place in February (08).

R&B star ALICIA KEYS is among the stars who’ll be feted at the inaugural Black Entertainment Television (BET) Honors next month (Jan08).
The No One singer will be honoured for her achievements in entertainment at the ceremony, held to pay tribute to the contributions African-Americans have made in various fields.
Elsewhere, supermodel-turned-talk show host Tyra Banks will be recognised in the media category.
The first BET Honors, hosted by Cedric The Entertainer, will take place at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C. on 12 January (08).

DAME HELEN MIRREN was once reduced to tears when JOAN RIVERS criticised her dress sense on television.
The Oscar winner was aghast when her friend Rivers and fellow fashion expert co-presenters unanimously agreed Mirren was the worst dressed person at the 1997 Golden Globe Awards.
Mirren says, "I’d won a Golden Globe many years ago and I’d just arrived from England and had my funky little English outfit on - I thought I looked pretty cool. Black suit, black boots and black feathery hat. I thought, ‘Well, I look OK.’ "Anyway, about four weeks later, I’m in Los Angeles at home watching telly and there’s Joan Rivers and she’s doing the Golden Globes thing that I was in.
"So my heart beating, I started watching it thinking, ‘I think this is a mistake, Helen. I have a feeling you shouldn’t be watching this.’ I couldn’t resist. What were they going to say about me? "They (Rivers and her colleagues) all said, ‘So who was the worst dressed?’ ‘Well, Helen Mirren.’ And Joan said, ‘My God, this is a first. We have never all agreed on the person who’s worst dressed.’ "And I’m watching this on the telly, and Joan turns and looks at the screen and says, ‘Helen, get your act together. You’ve got to start dressing better.’ It was like the TV was talking at me. I cried."

DENZEL WASHINGTON hopes his new movie THE GREAT DEBATERS helps revive the art of heated discussion in schools - because television and computer games have largely killed the once revered competition.
In the film, which Washington also directed, the Oscar winner plays a Texas professor who takes his African-American students to debate the great minds at Harvard in the 1930s.
Based on a true story, he hopes the film encourages modern teachers and professors to create debating classes.
Washington says, "We’re not developing that muscle that imagines as we used to. We went from spoken word to radio to television to film to computer.
"My kids write like chicken scratch because they don’t have to write anymore.
Debate is not the sport that it was… It seemed to make a turn around post World War II.
"I think, with the advent of television, it just wasn’t as popular anymore. I don’t know that it ever will be like it was, but I think the spoken word still is popular." And Washington thinks rap and hip-hop is the modern world’s debating: "It’s no coincidence that one of the dominant themes contributing to our culture now is hip-hop or rap, which is getting right back to poetry whether you like what they’re saying sometimes or not. There’s good poetry out there and bad poetry."

KATHERINE HEIGL will be wearing invisible braces on her teeth when she weds fiance JOSH KELLEY on Sunday (23Dec07), in a desperate bid to fix her crooked teeth.
The Knocked Up star is trying a new simple-to-use straightening system in a bid to start married life with a perfect smile.

Mexican actress ANA PATRICIA ROJO has filed for divorce from her husband of two years, ANDRES PUENTES JR.
A publicist for the 33-year-old Latina went public with the news on Tuesday (18Dec07), insisting the split is amicable and her client is saddened by the decision.
The representative reveals Rojo plans to holiday during the Christmas period, and she’ll make her first comments about the divorce early in 2008.
Rojo and Puentes Jr. wed in December 2005.

Actress KATHERINE HEIGL has been left devastated by the news the Golden Globe Awards won’t get a pass from striking writers - because it looks as if she’ll actually have to boycott the event.
Heigl went public with her plans to stay away from the January (08) prizegiving - if the strike wasn’t resolved - before she was nominated as a Best Actress for Grey’s Anatomy last week (13Dec07).
Joining strikers on the picket line earlier last week, the actress said, "I’m not crossing the picket line, not unless I’m contractually obliged to do, which, for the Golden Globes, I’m not." But now Heigl really wants to attend the awards show, and Writers Guild Of America (WGA) union bosses have rejected a request for striking members to be allowed to write scripts for the awards ceremonies.
Instead of giving events like the Globes and Oscars a waiver, protestors are expected to picket the events, which leaves Heigl with a dilemma.
She explains, "I was asked by my Guild not to cross the picket lines, and I think I have to respect that. I’d be really uncomfortable doing that because I think it makes a really big statement that I am not sure I want to make.
"But the reality is, I really, really, really want to go, so I would really like it if they would get their waiver because I think it’s a really awesome night to celebrate."

Rocker ALICE COOPER is spearheading a new teen centre initiative in his adopted Arizona so that local youths have a place to hangout.
The School’s Out hitmaker will help fund the facility, dubbed The Rock, at the Grand Canyon University in Phoenix.
Cooper received an honorary doctorate from the school last year (06).
In a statement, the rocker says, "With Grand Canyon University’s support, we are fulfilling a vision we’ve had for several years - to provide teens and children with a central place to learn, have fun, and explore their creativity in a supportive environment.
"I hope that, in years to come, The Rock will be the first of many such teen centres in Arizona and around the country." American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, who joined Cooper at the groundbreaking ceremony on Friday (14Dec07) has also donated some of her contest winnings to the college, where her grandmother studied.

Rapper REMY MA has dismissed claims she’s a lesbian.
An unnamed woman recently posted a video confession on website YouTube.com, claiming she’d had a sexual relationship with Remy Ma.
But the 26-year-old hip-hop star insists she’s a heterosexual.
A statement released by Ma to website TMZ.com reads: "The fraudulent video hoax that has surfaced of an alleged female lover of Remy Ma is completely false and reps for Remy Ma emphatically deny these claims…
"This is a deliberate attempt to undermine Remy’s name and character.
"Remy Ma has not nor has she ever been involved in a same sex relationship with the accuser or any other woman, however Remy is respectful of those who choose the alternative lifestyle." The singer responded, "I don’t believe divorce is the solution for an unhappy marriage, but I do think sometimes it’s the answer.

Actor DAVID HASSELHOFF has finally settled his bitter divorce battle with ex-wife PAMELA BACH - almost two years after filing for legal separation.
The former Baywatch star, 55, announced his marriage split from his wife of 16 years in January 2006.
He was awarded full and physical custody of the former couple’s two teenage children, Taylor-Ann, 17, and Hayley, 15, in June (07), but under the terms of their new agreement, Hasselhoff and Bach will share joint custody.
According to TMZ.com, the pair reached a deal on their financial issues, including spousal and child support, on Friday (14Dec07), after a lengthy discussion on the division of assets. The details of their settlement have not been disclosed, but it is understood they will sell their home in Encino, California.
