ACTIVISTS TO PROTEST KELLY CONCERT
Activists are planning to rally outside R. KELLY’s concert in Los Angeles on Friday (15Dec07) to protest his decision to tour while he awaits trial on 14 child pornography charges.
The R&B superstar is expected to stand trial for the alleged offences next year (08).
But some African-American campaigners are unhappy Kelly is making money on the road, given his current legal situation. They plan to stage a demonstration outside his gig at Los Angeles’ Forum on Friday.
Activist Jasmyne Cannick says, "It’s like pulling teeth to get people to talk about this. It’s a challenge to get the black community to even discuss it.
"They’re acting like he doesn’t have 14 counts of child pornography against him. We’re all acting like we don’t have daughters and nieces and little sisters.
"Everyone is making money, and everyone seems OK with him. People really need to wake up."
