CLOONEY TO MAKE SECOND VISIT TO DARFUR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:48 pm

Actor GEORGE CLOONEY will make a second awareness-raising trip to the war-torn Darfur region of Sudan next month (Jan08).
The 46-year-old hopes his celebrity status will draw more attention to the appalling conditions in the area as he tours the most affected areas of the crisis.
Clooney says, "I’m not a politician, so the reason I go is to focus attention there.
"We’re going to try to get deeper into Darfur, try to get some cameras in to the tougher camps and have conversations.
"That’s basically all I can do. If you put famous people in front of very ugly sites, people will watch." Clooney visited Darfur with his father, a former U.S. news anchor, last year (06). They shot a short film about the horrors of the refugee camps.
Details of Clooney’s upcoming trip are being kept secret for security reasons.
The actor admits he feels compelled to do all he can to raise awareness in Darfur: "It certainly reminds you to be ridiculously happy with your life. Once you see people suffering in the way these people are suffering, you feel very guilty about not suffering at all." On Thursday (13Dec07), Clooney and his Ocean’s Eleven co-star Don Cheadle will be honoured for their efforts in Darfur at the World Summit Of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates in Rome, Italy. Both actors will receive the Peace Summit Award at the event.

NO STAGE MUSICALS FOR RICKMAN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:45 pm

ALAN RICKMAN won’t be using his singing skills in the SWEENEY TODD movie musical as his inspiration to get back to Broadway because his last New York stage tune was a disaster.
Fans of the British thespian hope Rickman will follow his performance in Tim Burton’s new movie with a return to Broadway - but he insists that’s not in his future because he’s still smarting from the experience of singing in Private Lives.
Rickman explains, "Eight shows singing a week is different than one song recorded, as people find out to their peril and the loss of their voice.
"I actually did sing in Private Lives on Broadway, and we still think it was something wrong with the spores in the air conditioning.
"Both (co-star) Lindsay Duncan and I lost our voices and my vocal range was shot. I couldn’t speak or certainly sing and I nearly did something permanently damaging and that’s bad air, eight shows a week so it’s a tight rope.
"For the last few weeks of that run I had a song in it that I had to speak.
The voice is a weird instrument."

She’s convinced Hewitt’s response has sent out a strong message to young women: "I couldn’t be more proud of her. I think she’s really empowered. I wrote her a long email and said, `What I wouldn’t do for your beautiful butt!’" Other female stars who have backed Hewitt’s comments include Kate Walsh, Rosario Dawson and Anne Hathaway.

JONES DISOWNS LED ZEPPELIN ROAD MANAGER AFTER BIOGRAPHIES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 11:33 pm

Rocker JOHN PAUL JONES has disowned LED ZEPPELIN’s one-time road manager after his former friend sold the legendary band’s secrets to two biographers.
Richard Cole toured with Led Zeppelin throughout the group’s late 1960s/’70s heyday, and went on to become the primary source for author Stephen Davis’ landmark 1985 account of the band’s excesses on the road, Hammer Of The Gods.
When Jones later asked him why he’d exaggerated the group’s bad behaviour for the book, Cole explained that he’d been a drug addict who needed the money - so the rocker forgave him.
But Jones has now vowed never to talk to Cole again after he went behind the bandmates’ backs for a second time - for his own 2002 book, Stairway To Heaven: Led Zeppelin Uncensored.
Jones says, "I saw Richard after that book (Hammer Of The Gods), and he’d cleaned up and said he did it for the money
. I went, ‘OK,’ because I knew him from before the band so we made our peace.
"And then another book came out, Stairway To Heaven, which made Bonzo (drummer John Bonham) look such a monster
. I’ve never spoken to him again." Led Zeppelin will reunite for a special one-off concert on Monday (10Dec07) at London’s O2 Arena
. The late John Bonham will be replaced by his son Jason on drums
.
