JUNO STAR OSTRACISED FOR BALD LOOK
Rising star ELLEN PAGE was ostracised in her native Nova Scotia after she shaved her head for a film role.
The Oscar-tipped Juno star went bald for a part she played in harrowing 2005 movie Mouth To Mouth, which she shot in Europe, and she couldn’t believe the reactions she got when she returned home.
She explains "People perceive you differently when you have no hair, especially when you’re a female. They jumped to conclusions about my sexuality.
"I arrived at the Ottawa airport and I had just shaved my head and I was taken to this special room and searched to the extent of insanity.
"Or they would look at my passport picture and wouldn’t believe it was me and would call someone in for another opinion.
"I remember arriving back in Halifax and going to my favourite video store and I walked in and the guy was like, `Can you leave your bag at the front?’ I shopped there all the time and I’m like, `You’ve got to be kidding me?’ "He thought because I was bald I was going to shoplift or something."
