CONRAD BLACK: ‘I WILL SURVIVE JAIL SENTENCE’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 4:00 pm

Media tycoon CONRAD BLACK has acknowledged for the first time that he may be sentenced to prison after being found guilty of fraud.
Since being convicted of embezzling $6 million (£3 million) from Hollinger Inc shareholders earlier this year (13Jul07), the former owner of British broadsheet The Daily Telegraph has been battling the U.S. Department of Justice, denying the charges accused of him.
In a series of e-mails to Canadian programme CBS News from his Palm Beach, Florida home, where he must remain until his sentence is announced, he writes, "Prison will be a bore, but quite endurable. I can get on with anyone and adjust to almost anything, and I don’t consider (prison) shaming.
"Prison will be a badge of honour to help expose prosecutorial excesses, the frailties of the plea bargain system." The sentencing will take place on Monday (10Dec07) - he faces a possible 35 years in prison.
