THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN REUNITED AFTER RENOUNCING ALCOHOL
Brothers WILLIAM and JIM REID of THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN only agreed to reunite the band after making a pact with one other to give up alcohol.
Tensions between the Scottish rockers were spurred on by the siblings’ alcohol-fuelled arguments, which eventually caused the group to split in 1998.
But after being asked to perform at California festival Coachella earlier this year (Apr07), the pair decided to renounce alcohol in an attempt to mend their past rifts and continue their career in music.
William, 49, says, "When we ended in ‘98, we hated each other. A lot of that was down to drink and drugs. Jim’s completely sober now, and I don’t drink during the shows. "But there is a kind of wariness. We’re both aware that we could snap at each other but we’re trying to hold it together. We love this band, and we love each other."
