TAYLOR MURDER SUSPECTS HELD WITHOUT BOND
Three of the four men charged with the murder of American football star SEAN TAYLOR have been ordered to remain in custody without bail.
Venjah Hunte, 20, Eric Rivera, 17 and 18-year-old Charles Wardlow appeared in a court in Fort Myers, Florida, on Saturday (01Dec07) for a preliminary hearing over the fatal shooting of Taylor, 24, last week (26Nov07).
The Washington Redskins player - who was dating actor Andy Garcia’s niece, Jackie - died on Monday from a bullet wound in the groin after being shot outside his Miami home. Police believe the attack took place after a robbery went wrong.
The fourth suspect, 19-year-old Jason Scott Mitchell, was not present in the state court on Saturday, but will face the same counts as his accomplices.
The men were arrested in the Fort Myers area on Friday (30Nov07) by Miami-Dade Police. Wardlow’s lawyer, John E. Evans III, says, "They are charged with first degree felony murder, home invasion and burglary." According to Evans, three of the suspects have given police statements which "appear to describe a situation where they were going to take physical items from his (Taylor’s) home and had no idea Mr. Taylor was at home."
