PRINCE & RADIOHEAD ‘INELIGIBLE’ FOR BRITS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 5:48 pm

RADIOHEAD and PRINCE will both miss out on Brit Award nominations in London next year (08) because of their unconventional album release methods.
Artists must have had a top 75 U.K. single or album during the past 16 months before they can be considered for the prestigious awards - but Radiohead album In Rainbows was only released for download on the band’s website, which does not report sales to chart compilers, and Prince’s album Planet Earth was given away free in a British newspaper, making it ineligible for inclusion in the U.K. charts.
In other circumstances, the Scottish rockers would have been in the running for the Best British Group and Best British Album shortlists, and Prince could have been up for Best International Male Solo artist and Best International Album.
The prestigious British awards ceremony will be hosted live by Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne from Earls Court, London next February (20Feb07).
