MY BLOODY VALENTINE: ‘WE ARE NOT DOING A RADIOHEAD’
LATEST: Cult rockers MY BLOODY VALENTINE have dismissed reports they are following in the footsteps of RADIOHEAD by releasing their next album as an Internet-only download - as digital formats are "far inferior" to traditional CDs and records.
Radiohead stunned the music industry last month (Oct07) by releasing In Rainbows as a digital download and allowing customers to choose their own price.
And My Bloody Valentine - who are set to release their first album since 1991 - were reported to be planning to do the same by marketing their hotly-anticipated new disc online.
But the band’s manager Vinita Joshi is adamant his quotes were taken out of context by a music industry magazine.
He says, "In the interview I did with Billboard (magazine) I stated that the forthcoming MBV album will more than likely be self-released. That does not equate to a digital only release, which the article states.
"Whilst I understand many bands can self-release via digital shops, that is not the plan. In fact we see digital as a far inferior format and the band would never plan to release an album exclusively in a digital format.
"I was quite upset to be misquoted when I took the time to talk to the journalist in question."
