BROADWAY DEAL ‘CLOSER’ THAN EVER
LATEST: Talks to resolve the crippling Broadway strike will resume on Monday evening (26Nov07) following an all-night negotiation session which brought the stagehands union "closer" to brokering a deal.
Stagehands and producers were locked in discussions in New York on Sunday night (25Nov07) in a bid to get shows including The Lion King, Chicago and Mamma Mia! back up and running during one of the theatre district’s busiest times of the year.
Union spokesman Bruce Cohen confirmed progress had been made - but not enough to bring strikers back to work just yet.
He says, "We are closer than we were twelve hours ago but not close enough to have a deal." More than 25 plays and musicals have been cancelled due to the mass walkout by disgruntled stagehands that began on 10 November (07).
