BECKHAM RED-FACED OVER CANCER VICTIM ‘SNUB’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:57 pm

DAVID BECKHAM has pledged to meet a young cancer survivor "whenever and wherever" she likes after his security staff whisked him past her as she waited to greet him in Sydney, Australia on Sunday (25Nov07).
The soccer star sped past the waiting leukaemia victim and her pals without acknowledgement as he arrived at the city’s Star City hotel straight from the airport.
Fourteen-year-old Emma Byers, the first person to survive two consecutive bone marrow transplants at Sydney Children’s Hospital, was left in tears after the star’s minders insisted he was brought into the hotel via a back entrance and taken to his room.
Beckham, 32, later apologised for letting the young girl and her friends down and promised to make amends - by making them guests of honour at LA Galaxy’s sold-out match against Sydney FC on Monday (26Nov07).
He says, "I didn’t see any children when I arrived at the hotel this morning - I went in the back way.
"But that (snubbing them) is one thing I would never have done."
