HARRY POTTER author J.K. ROWLING has topped a countdown naming her 2007’s Entertainer Of The Year.
Rowling’s achievements in the last 12 months include the release of the final Potter book, The Deathly Hallows, and the boy wizard movie series overtaking Star Wars and James Bond to become the most successful film franchise of all time.
Other celebrities named in American magazine Entertainment Weekly’s list include Matt Damon, Carrie Underwood, Johnny Depp, Kanye West, Katherine Heigl, Gerard Butler and Amy Winehouse.

Jewish comedian JERRY SEINFELD has returned to Israel for the first time in 37 years, to promote his new animated film BEE MOVIE there.
The 53-year-old was granted an audience with President Shimon Peres after arriving on Friday (23Nov07).
Seinfeld visited Jerusalem’s old city and Holocaust museum - and later recounted volunteering on a Kibbutz in northern Israel in 1970.

The cast of U.S. TV show 30 ROCK has performed a benefit show to raise money for production staff who’ve been laid-off due to the ongoing Hollywood writers strike.
Cast members including Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan and Jane Krakowski took the stage of a small New York theatre on Monday (19Nov07) to help their out-of-work colleagues.
Two hundred fans paid $20 (£10) each to watch the show, 30 Rock Live!, which will air on U.S. television network NBC on 6 December (07).
Speaking about the strike, Fey says, "It’s such a solvable situation. Not only would I prefer to be working, but I would really like our crew to be working." Members of the Writers Guild Of America have been staging walk-outs since 5 November (07) after talks between the union and studio representatives failed to resolve a dispute over royalties.

LATEST: U.S. newswoman NANCY GRACE will have both her baby twins home this weekend (24/25Nov07) when her son John leaves hospital on Sunday (25Nov07).
Grace was found to have blood clots in her lungs after delivering twins John and Lucy two months early on 4 November (07).
As a result of the birth complications, Grace was forced to leave the premature babies at an Atlanta hospital to be looked after by doctors as she rested at her Georgia home.
Lucy joined Grace in time for Thanksgiving (22Nov07) on Wednesday (21Nov07), and baby John will be reunited with his mother and sister on Sunday, reports People.com.

Former THE BACHELOR contestant MARY DELGADO has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting her fiance BYRON VELVICK, the man who chose her to win the U.S.
reality TV show.
Delgado, who was picked up by police in Tampa, Florida in the early hours of Wednesday (21Nov07) morning, stands accused of punching Velvick in the face and cutting his lip while under the influence of alcohol.
She has been charged with domestic battery and was released from police custody on Wednesday afternoon.
Delgado and Velvick met on the sixth season of The Bachelor and got engaged in the show’s final episode.
They have been living together in Tampa for the last three years.

Wrestling superstar HULK HOGAN’s wife has filed for divorce.
Linda Bollea has submitted legal documents in Florida’s Pinellas County Court seeking a permanent separation from her husband, whose real name is Terry Bollea.
The papers don’t state a reason for the divorce, reports local Fox News TV channel WTVT.
2007 is proving to be a troublesome year for the Hogans - earlier this week (begs19Nov07), their son Nick had his driving licence suspended for one year by police in relation to a summer (07) car crash.
The teen was travelling with his pal, U.S. Marine John Graziano, when he lost control of his father’s Toyota Supra on a Florida highway in August. According to officials, the vehicle flipped at high speed and collided with a palm tree.
The teenager has been charged with reckless driving involving serious bodily injury. He will be tried as an adult.

LATEST: Actor DENNIS QUAID and his wife KIMBERLY were given a police escort to a Los Angeles hospital on Friday (23Nov07).
The couple were forced to seek out help from cops after a swarm of photographers made it impossible for them to drive to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to visit their critically-ill newborn twins.
Quaid had repeatedly asked the assembled paparazzi to stop following his car, but his requests were ignored, reports website TMZ.com.
The incident happened just days after the Quaids pleaded with the press to respect their privacy while their babies Thomas Boone and Zoe Grace - born on 8 November (07) - fight for their lives following an accidental drugs overdose.
The twins are currently in intensive care in Cedars-Sinai after they were given 10,000 unit doses of anti-coagulant Heparin by mistake, instead of the standard 10 units.
On Tuesday (20Nov07), the hospital’s chief medical officer, Michael L.
Langberg, admitted the error was "preventable" and involved "a failure to follow our standard policies and procedures".
The babies are 53-year-old Quaid’s second and third children - he already has a 17-year-old son with his ex-wife Meg Ryan.

Rock veterans the EAGLES have teamed up with U.S. stores Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club to raise money for charity by selling a limited number of autographed guitars.
Band members Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmidt have signed the Takamine guitars, which will retail online at SamsClub.com for $2,500 (£1,250) each.
All money raised will benefit non-profit organisation The Walden Woods Project, which preserves the land, literature and legacy of author/philosopher Henry David Thoreau.
The Eagles’ recent U.S. number one album Long Road Out Of Eden was only available to buy in Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club shops.

Country superstar GARTH BROOKS will perform a benefit gig in January (08) to raise funds for the victims of the recent California wildfires.
Brooks will take the stage at Los Angeles’ Staples Center on 26 January for the concert, which will also raise money for the future of firefighting in the region.
Brooks, who recently came out of retirement to play his first gigs since the late 1990s, responded to a request from local officials to play the benefit.
He says, "I’m flattered they’ve asked, and I’m honoured to accept. This is going to take a team effort like nothing I have ever been a part of before." Fires burned at numerous locations throughout southern California last month (Oct07), resulting in the evacuation of 500,000 people.

Dance star MOBY failed to turn up for charity work feeding the homeless on Thanksgiving (22Nov07), after getting the time wrong.
The singer promised to help out at a New York soup kitchen, but mistook 6.30am for 6.30pm and slept through the whole thing.
He explains on his website: "I had been asked to volunteer at a soup-kitchen, so in the interest of being altruistic and potentially making up for a multitude of mundane sins I agreed.
"I saw the email. It said, ‘See you at 6.30.’ That’s a good time to eat Thanksgiving dinner. Dinner time. Sun’s down, time to eat. Wrong - 6:30, meaning: in the am. Funny how the same three numbers can mean such different things to different people.
"So, mea culpa, because of assumptions and ignorance I slept through the allotted time in which I was scheduled to do noble service on Thanksgiving.
"While others were preparing food for the homeless I was happily sleeping, dreaming of 6.30 in the pm.
"I felt like a dirtbag for having been happily asleep when I should’ve been working at the shelter."

Country singer CHICKIE WILLIAMS has died at the age of 88.
Williams, who was the wife and singing partner of Doc Williams, passed away at a care centre in Wheeling, West Virginia last Sunday (18Nov07).
Her 93-year-old husband says, "I’ve just been reminiscing and enjoying the wonderful life I shared with my wife. It’s a real loss to me.'’ Born Jessie Wanda Crupe, she wed Doc Williams in 1939 and the pair started performing together.
Williams had her biggest hit in 1947 with Beyond The Sunset.
Her grandson, Ohio Senator Andy McKenzie, says, "My grandmother was not only very special to hundreds of thousands of people across the U.S. and Canada, at one time she was as big as any modern-day country singer. To many people, they still are major stars.'’ Williams funeral service is scheduled to take place at First Baptist Church in Wheeling on Saturday (24Nov07).

Entertainment giant Sony Music must pay a small record company $5 million (£2.5 million) for failing to put the firm’s logo on reissues of MEAT LOAF’s BAT OUT OF HELL album.
In 1998, a court settlement ordered Sony to place Cleveland International’s logo on future copies of the 1977 disc, which has sold over 30 million copies worldwide.
Sony failed to do so for more than a year afterwards, leading to Friday’s (23Nov07) ruling in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Cleveland International founder Steve Popovich, who signed the then-unknown Meat Loaf in 1977, says, "I worked too hard for them and made them too much money to get robbed now." Sony had originally argued that Popovich had made up the logo agreement. The company then claimed the logo was omitted from subsequent pressings due to a mistake that was immediately corrected when realised.

NICKELBACK frontman CHAD KROEGER has pleaded not guilty to drink-driving.
The How You Remind Me rocker was arrested on 22 June (06) in British Columbia, Canada after a police officer noticed his erratic driving. He was then charged with impaired driving and having a blood alcohol level over the legal limit.
During a court hearing in Surrey, British Columbia on Wednesday (21Nov07), Kroeger’s lawyer entered a not guilty plea on the singer’s behalf.
The trial originally came to court in August 2006, but was postponed when Kroeger’s legal team asked for more time to look over the police report.
Kroeger, whose driving licence is issued under his real name of Chad Turton, is expected to attend court before a verdict is delivered.
If found guilty, he faces a $600 (£300) fine and a one-year driving
