FIELDER-CIVIL: ‘WINEHOUSE NEEDS REHAB’
AMY WINEHOUSE’s husband BLAKE FIELDER-CIVIL is pleading with the star to check into a rehabilitation centre while he is held in custody accused of assaulting a barman.
Fielder-Civil has given up drugs since he was arrested and held on remand at London’s Pentonville Prison - and has urged Winehouse to follow suit by checking into a drug treatment programme.
Fielder-Civil’s mother Georgette Civil says, "He’s already stopped taking drugs. He’s missing Amy desperately and he wants her to get help. He has told her she needs to go into rehab." And Civil, 42, says her son’s imprisonment is the only way to save the couple from overdosing on drugs, insisting now is the time for Winehouse to seek help for her substance abuse problem.
She adds, "This is Amy’s opportunity to sort herself out too and I’ve strongly suggested to her that rehab would be a very good idea because this continual bad behaviour has to stop. "Just because she’s Amy Winehouse doesn’t mean I’m afraid to be angry with her. This is a woman with enormous talent and a lovely personality and she needs urgent help." Fielder-Civil, 25, is currently being held in prison after his arrest earlier this month (Nov07) on suspicion of perverting the course of justice in relation to a charge of grievous bodily harm. On Friday (23Nov07), Fielder-Civil learned he will be spending Christmas in jail after an application for bail was turned down by a judge at London’s Snaresbrook Crown Court on 18 January (08).
