British actor RAY WINSTONE is to take a break from making films, because his heavy workload has left him exhausted.
The 50-year-old has starred in variety of recent blockbusters including The Departed, Beowulf and the forthcoming Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull - and his raised profile has led to a number of offers pouring in.
But Winstone is determined to keep his work schedule clear for the foreseeable future - no matter how lucrative - so he can enjoy some well-earned time off.
He says, "I just turned one down. It was a biggie, and good and all. But I thought, ‘I’ve had enough for a while. I’m knackered. I need to recharge my batteries’."

Film studio New Line Cinema has filed a multi-million dollar copyright infringement lawsuit against a video company over a documentary about THE GOLDEN COMPASS author PHILIP PULLMAN.
The moviehouse claims the 70-minute DVD film, Beyond the Golden Compass: The Magic of Philip Pullman, is an attempt by company Koch Entertainment to cash in on the publicity surrounding the new $180 million (£90 million) big-screen adaptation of the writer’s fantasy novel, which stars Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig.
The movie is due to hit cinemas in December (07) - while the DVD was released on 19 November (07), and by Koch’s own admission, is to "coincide with the big-budget film adaptation." And New Line Cinema has also called into question the similarity of the DVD’s cover sleeve to the film’s publicity posters - the documentary cover features an unarmored polar bear and a compass-like device; the same as the movie’s promotional material, which also depicts Kidman and Craig.
But Koch Entertainment has denied the copyright claim.
The two parties met for a hearing in a New York court on Monday (19Nov07), but a ruling has yet to be made.

Scottish pop star KT TUNSTALL has heaped praise on her deaf brother DANIEL for helping her to come to terms with her adoption.
The Suddenly I See singer admits her close relationship with her disabled brother, who is an award-winning tennis player, helped her to realise she was lucky to have been brought up in a loving family - despite not having the same genetics.
She says, "I think there would have been tension if Daniel hadn’t been born deaf.
"Any personal woes I had with being adopted - which I don’t remember having were wiped out next to that."

Guitarist ERIC ERLANDSON has teamed up with director VINCENT GALLO to form RRIICCEE - a unique band that will perform spontaneously with no prewritten music.
The duo performed at the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan in July (07) and are due to make their American debut in New York on 7 December (07).
An insider tells the New York Post’s gossip column PageSix, "It’s supercool and has the potential of being something really special.
"Improvisation is not a good word for what they’re doing. It’s more a gesture of composing and performing at the same time, always hoping to avoid musical cliché or jamming." Gallo adds, "We’ve chosen to remain open, to grow and change more naturally.
If we choose to record a performance, the recording itself is the only evidence of that creative moment." The project is the first for Erlandson, former boyfriend of Drew Barrymore, since his days in Courtney Love’s rock band Hole.

Country singer BILLY RAY CYRUS cannot bear the thought of his teenage daughter MILEY dating - and is "weird" when approached about the topic.
Singer/actress Miley Cyrus admits her father has allowed her to go on dates, but he often scares potential suitors off with his unusual behaviour.
The 14-year-old tells chatshow queen Oprah Winfrey, "The other day I had one of my guy friends over and (my dad) was… hiding in the kitchen. We were outside just like hanging out and I look around and my dad’s standing there.
"He’s standing there with his German shepherd (dog) watching us and I’m like, ‘Dad, you’re gonna scare him. I’m not going to have any more friends.’" But Billy Ray insists he was just playing around and wasn’t really checking up on his daughter.
He says, "They knew I was there. It’s not like I was spying."

Rapper BUSTA RHYMES has parted ways with his longtime crew, the FLIPMODE SQUAD.
The I Know What You Want star is currently facing four different trials on assault and driving-related charges, and it appears his Flipmode Squad collaborators can no longer stand the rapper’s unruly behaviour.
Asked if the group will be collaborating with Rhymes in the near future, rapper Rampage tells HHNLive.com, "Nah, we just decided to do our own thing…
"It’s not under Flipmode anymore. It’s under FMS, just me, Baby Sham, Rah Digga, and Spliff Starr and FMS stands for Famous Millionaire Squad." Rhymes - real name Trevor Smith - is due in court on 23 January (08), when jury selection in his assault and drunken driving trial will begin.

FALL OUT BOY star PETE WENTZ has laughed off reports of a sex tape - the explicit footage which has surfaced online is a scene from the short movie GOODNIGHT MOON.
The bassist - who is dating singer/actress Ashlee Simpson - was reported to have been the latest celebrity caught up in a sex tape scandal after the brief clip was posted on video-sharing website, YouTube.com.
But Wentz insists the love-making was not for real.
In a statement posted on Fall Out Boy’s website, Wentz says: "Just wanted to put the word out on the streets/the internet. there is no pete wentz sex tape in existence. About a year and a half ago I took part in an indie gore/horror short film as a favor to my friend nathan- called goodnight moon. Either way im not into being an actor or having a sex tape either sooooooooo (sic), hopefully u can deal with it…."

A British piglet is recovering after being found in the back of a supermarket lorry carrying toilet paper.
The animal - who has been nicknamed ‘Andrex’ after the famous toilet roll brand - was discovered in a delivery at a Tesco store in Derbyshire.
Staff wrapped the piglet in a duvet and called the RSPCA and ‘Andrex’ was taken to a nearby animal shelter, suffering from cuts and bruises.
Ella Herring from the shelter said: "We will now care for him until he is fit enough to be found a permanent home." A Tesco spokesman said: "Staff are used to dealing with the unexpected, but little ‘Andrex’s arrival was a shock. They took it in their stride, wrapping him up straightaway in a duvet in the manager’s office and calling the RSPCA for advice and help."

A British teenager was struck by lightening while she was having a shower.
17-year-old Abbie Jackson, from Dorset, was hit by the bolt as she was washing herself in her bathroom.
Abbie said: "I saw the bolt come through the window. It lit up my arm and the shower head flew out of my hand." Her Mum Tracy added: "Thunder was rattling the house - it was so scary. Then she came and told me what happened. It was freaky."

A Pakistani man had a bottle shoved up his anus by two men who stole his buffalo.
The 60-year-old was trying to protect his animal but said the thieves were armed and forced the bottle up him.
He then had to visit his local hospital to have the object removed.

An abseiling Santa Claus had to be rescued by firemen after his false beard got caught on his rope.
The Father Christmas was attempting to arrive at a Texas shopping centre in dramatic style but instead was left stranded 30ft above the ground.
As he struggled to free himself the children gathered at the ground began to cry and the fire brigade was called to help.
The red-faced Santa was finally led down on one of the brigade’s telescopic ladders.

The world’s first perfume for dogs has been launched.
London firm Mungo and Maud claim their eau de toilette Petite Amande, which sells for £38 a bottle, is the first fragrance for a pooch.
The company hired well-known perfumer Lyn Harris to come up with the scent, which features French blackcurrant, Tunisian neroli, mimosa and violet leaf on a base of sweet vanilla bourbon with a little almond.
Nicola Sacher from Mungo & Maud said: "For some time we had wanted to create an original fragrance for dogs made with refined ingredients that wouldn’t overpower the senses. A scent that would refresh the dog and appeal to the human nose too.
"I have admired Lyn Harris’ work for years and thought that her more natural sensibilities would work perfectly for this project."

A US man shot his pet goat after his wife refused to bring him home a beer.
Peter Mischler, from Wisconsin, had returned home from a hunting trip and was reportedly furious after discovering his 22-year-old daughter had let the family’s two pet goats out.
While his daughter was on the phone to her mother, Mischler asked her to tell his wife to buy him some beer. When his wife refused, Mischler allegedly threatened to shoot the goats and when she returned home, she and her daughter heard four gunshots outside. They went out to find one of the goats with its entrails hanging out and although it was still alive, they had to put it out of its misery.
Mischler was later arrested that day at a local bar.

A US cat has been born with two faces and three eyes.
Lil’Bit, who lives with his owner in Arizona, has two distinct noses, mouths and was born with four eyes but the two in the middle have now merged into one.
Scientists believe he has two brains because when one face sleeps the other can remain alert and awake. When he gets a cold, only one of his noses runs.
He was one of five kittens born to Lil’Pine, his brothers and sisters arriving into the world with just the one face each.

A US paramedic saved the life of a man he had shot just moments before.
The man had allegedly raided a petrol station in Michigan and was being chased by authorities, including the paramedic.
The chase ended when state troopers managed to knock the alleged robber’s vehicle onto its side.
The paramedic ordered the suspect to drop his gun and when he didn’t, the paramedic fired several shots, critically wounding him.
Sheriff Robert J Pickell: "Our deputy did what he was trained to do, protect the public and save lives. I’m proud of him. He shot the guy and then had the presence of mind to go get his bag and save the guy’s life."

A New Zealand teenager has broken the world blindfolded texting record by taking just 45 seconds to send a 160-character message.
Elliot Nicholls, 17, broke the previous record of 83 seconds twice, by sending the message in 51 seconds on his second attempt and then 45 seconds on his fourth attempt.
He said: "I’ve been practising about 20 minutes every day for the past week I knew I could do it, I just had to get the phrase into my brain." The text he had to send was "the razor toothed piranhas of the genera serrasal musand pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world, in reality they rarely attack a human".
Elliot’s own text message had to match it exactly, including spaces, punctuation and spelling with no mistakes.

A remote Chinese village has built a school in a giant mountain cave.
Middle Cave School, is located in the middle cave of a mountain in Getu village, Guizhou province, and has expanded from just one class to 186 pupils.
The headmaster said: "The students are very eager for knowledge, and the student who lives the farthest has to walk six hours each day.
"The school is like a normal school in every other way, with classrooms and a playground, but most of the buildings have no roofs "since they’re not necessary."
