$1 million rubbish painting

Posted in: Bizzare Stories — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 8:29 pm

A painting which was found dumped in a pile of rubbish has been sold for more than $1 million.
The 1970 art piece, Tres Personajes by Mexican artist Rufino Tamayo, was found by Elizabeth Gibson as she was taking her daily walk in New York.
When she discovered the value of the painting - which was stolen from a warehouse 20 years ago - she returned it to its original owner.
It sold for $1,049,000 to a telephone bidder at Sotheby’s New York auction house.
Elizabeth said she was drawn to the painting when she spotted it on the street.
She said: "I know nothing of modern art but it didn’t seem right for any piece of art to be discarded like that."
