GRANIER-DEFERRE DEAD AT 80

French filmmaker PIERRE GRANIER-DEFERRE has died. He was 80.
The director had been hospitalised in Paris for some time before he passed away on Friday (16Nov07).
Granier-Deferre enjoyed a career spanning over three decades and is best known for 1971’s The Widow Couderc and 1973’s The Last Train.
He was also critically-acclaimed and won the Interfilm Award at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1982 for Une etrange affaire (A Strange Affair), while Etoile du Nord, L’ was honoured in 1983 with the Cesar Award in France for Best Writing.
He later moved into the TV industry and became renowned for the French TV series based on writer Georges Simenon’s Inspector Maigret books.
Granier-Deferre’s funeral will take place on Friday (23Nov07) at the Pere-Lachaise crematorium in Paris.
