LED ZEPPELIN’s classic STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN is heading for the U.K. charts 36 years after it became an anthem for the group.
The track was never released as a single in Britain as Led Zeppelin famously refused to issue singles in their native U.K. until now.
And it’s on course for a Top 40 place this weekend (17/18Nov07) after being released as part of Zeppelin’s digitally remastered greatest hits album, Mothership.
The digital releases come as the group plan for a one-off reunion show in London next month (Dec07), as part of a tribute concert to late music mogul Ahmet Ertegun.

Country superstar GARTH BROOKS has cancelled appearances on U.S. TV programmes THE VIEW and THE ELLEN DeGENERES SHOW in support of the Hollywood writers’ strike.
Brooks was also hoping to promote his new release, The Ultimate Hits, on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, but that programme is currently airing repeats as a result of the strike.
And, although morning programmes The View and The Ellen DeGeneres Show are still on air, Brooks has decided to stay away to show his solidarity with the striking writers.

THE BLACK EYED PEAS star will.i.am has agreed to step in and replace a grieving KANYE WEST after the rapper was forced to scrap his performance at the 2007 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
West told organisers he was too upset following the shock death of his mother at the weekend (10Nov07) to appear at the event, which will be taped in Los Angeles on Thursday night (15Nov07).
As a tribute to Kanye’s mom, will.i.am will perform his hit song I Got It From My Mama, and insiders claim he’ll add a spoken tribute to his pal’s mother.
The fashion show, which will also feature the first comeback appearance of The Spice Girls, will air on U.S. TV on 4 December (07).

Hollywood actor CHRISTIAN SLATER loved playing an ugly character in his latest film - because he found it liberating to be free of his good looks.
The 38-year-old had to don false teeth, an unflattering hairstyle and a moustache for his role in He Was A Quiet Man.
The forthcoming film sees Slater star as an office worker who inadvertently becomes a hero when he saves a woman’s life.
And the actor was happy to give up his sense of style for the part.
He says, "I had to put all those things aside, abandon any sense of vanity and wear messed-up false teeth and have a receding hairline shaved into my head.
"Strangely enough, life was actually less stressful when I dressed like that; it felt good!"

RUSSELL CROWE would have no qualms about keeping $1 million (£500,000) if he ever came across that amount of abandoned cash - unlike his character in new movie AMERICAN GANGSTER.
The Gladiator star, 43, admits he would be more than happy to keep such a large amount of cash, instead of handing it over to authorities as Richie Roberts does in the Ridley Scott-directed film.
He says, "If there are no attachments and I’m not required to do anything, then I’m not giving it to anybody. I’m spending it, mate! Are you crazy?"

BRITNEY SPEARS will blame a recent positive drug test on her medication for Attention Deficit Disorder when her lawyer appears at an emergency hearing on Friday (16Nov07) relating to her custody battle with KEVIN FEDERLINE.
Federline’s lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan called for the meeting earlier this week (begs12Nov07), claiming the dancer was becoming increasingly concerned over the safety of the couple’s sons Sean Preston and Jayden James while in Spears’ care.
And Kaplan will also demand an explanation for media reports the Toxic hitmaker tested positive for amphetamines in a recent court-ordered drug test.
The 25-year-old must undergo mandatory drug and alcohol tests as part of an earlier court order relating to her custody case.
But TMZ.com claims Spears’ attorney, Sorrell Trope, will now argue the positive test was caused by the amphetamine Adderall - a drug she has been prescribed to treat the illness.
According to further media reports, Spears has previously claimed her sleeping aid Provigil was the drug responsible for the positive result, before changing her argument to lay blame on her asthma inhaler, Albuterol.
Kaplan is also expected to call for a driving ban on the singer while the kids are in her custody, after video footage emerged last week (ends09Nov07) showing Spears running through a red traffic light at a busy Los Angeles junction.

Actress JULIA ROBERTS has slammed celebrity-obsessed Hollywood, branding the frenzy surrounding young stars "grotesque".
The 40-year-old is disgusted by the current state of the entertainment industry - and insists she would have avoided the business altogether if it had been as cut-throat when she began her career in the late 1980s.
She says, "I think it’s just grotesque. It’s like a circus sideshow. I don’t know why anybody would even want to go into show business these days, with all of the different magazines and shows. It just wouldn’t be worth it." And she admits actors thrust into the Hollywood limelight in their teens suffer from today increased media interest in celebrity.
She adds, "It’s too fast. Before, you could build a career over years and many movies. Now it’s like you do one good movie and they throw a ton of money at you and a ton of attention at you.
"You’re being constructed outside of yourself before you even know who you are, and what you are, and how you want to do it, and why you want to do it."

British comedian RICKY GERVAIS forces himself to go to the gym - so he doesn’t have to give up eating "nice" food.
The Office star, 46, takes regular visits to the gym but confesses it is only because he refuses to adopt a healthier diet.
He says, "I had a slice of pizza after I worked out. I don’t want to give up eating nice things, so I burn off the calories the next day, so I can do it again." And he admits he hasn’t weighed himself for some time.
He adds, "(It was) probably when I had the medical for the (U.K. TV show) Extras Christmas special. (My weight)’s been the same for about three years now."

British comedian RICKY GERVAIS turned down the chance to work with celebrated director WOODY ALLEN - because he is convinced the filmmaker has lost his ability to produce good movies.
The creator of the U.K.’s hit TV comedy The Office was offered a part in one of Allen’s recent productions, but Gervais pulled out when he saw who else the director had in mind for the film.
He says, "When I saw the rest of the cast - other British people on telly - I just pulled out of it. I thought: that’s no fun.
"This is the Woody Allen who doesn’t know. He thinks these people are all good because he likes the accent. Woody Allen isn’t Woody Allen any more."

PARTRIDGE FAMILY star DAVID CASSIDY’s actress daughter KATIE has been accused of lying to the police during a recent arrest for underage drinking.
The 20-year-old - whose mother is one-time Happy Days star Sherry Williams reportedly lied about her identity to officers in Tucson, Arizona, following her arrest on 30 October (07), because she was a "Hollywood actress" and news of her bust "would not look good".
Cassidy is said to have appeared drunk when quizzed by cops during the incident. They noted her slurred speech, clumsy movements, and alcohol-scented breath after the Chevy truck she was travelling in, driven by a 19-year-old male, was pulled over.
A source tells TheSmokingGun.com that the Click star’s blood alcohol level was 0.16, twice the legal limit in Arizona.
According to a police report obtained by the website, Cassidy told cops her name was Taylor Quinn Cole - the name of another actress she knows - and that she was 21-years-old. She also claimed she lived in Vancouver, Canada, and didn’t have any identification. Cassidy in fact lives in West Hollywood, Los Angeles.
When officers asked her date of birth, Cassidy allegedly replied, "4-29-84" only to be told that would have made her 23. She then came clean and admitted she had lied about her identity because she was scared.
Cassidy - who is slated to star as Lucy Ewing in the 2009 film version of hit TV series Dallas - was arraigned this week (begs12Nov07) and is next due in court on 18 December (07) to face two misdemeanour charges, including false reporting to a law enforcement agent.

HAYDEN PANETTIERE is a wanted woman - Japanese authorities have issued an arrest warrant for the HEROES star.
The 18-year-old actress violently clashed with Japanese fishermen recently as she tried to save hundreds of dolphins from slaughter.
The star was almost stabbed by fishing hooks aimed at the protestors during the protest, but felt compelled to show her opposition to the mass killing, which turned the sea red with blood.
And now Panettiere is wanted by Japanese police.
She says, "I learned today that I have an arrest warrant out for me in Japan because of what I did for Save the Wales." And the beauty is not scared of being sent to jail - because they’d have to catch her first.
She adds of the incident’s repercussions, "Potentially jail, but I doubt it… I guess they could come here and get us, but probably not."

Rapper FOXY BROWN has suffered another setback to her hip-hop return - her new album has been pushed back to next year (08).
The troubled MC’s forthcoming LP, Brooklyn’s Don Diva, will now be hit stores on 5 February - two months after its original release date (Dec07).
Brown - real name Inga Marchand - is currently serving a one-year prison sentence at New York’s Rikers Island jail, after a judge ruled in September (07) that she had violated the terms of her probation from a separate case in Manhattan.

British rocker LIAM GALLAGHER is the first guest on his fiancee NICOLE APPLETON’s new talkshow.

Rapper THE GAME will have $40,000 (£20,000) returned to him after police seized the cash in relation to firearms charges over an incident at a Los Angeles basketball game earlier this year (07).
The Dreams star - real name Jayceon Taylor - is accused of allegedly hitting a basketball player on the opposing team before threatening to shoot him during a game at the Rita Walters Educational Complex on 24 February (07).
In September (07), Taylor pleaded not guilty to felony charges of possession of a firearm in a school zone, making criminal threats and exhibiting the gun in the presence of a police officer.
And although The Game is facing up to five years behind bars if convicted, he received a small victory on Wednesday (14Nov07) - a judge ruled he was entitled to take back the $40,000 taken by authorities from his Glendale, California home in May this year (07).

U.S. singer/songwriter REGINA SPEKTOR was rushed to hospital on Wednesday (14Nov07) night after collapsing shortly before her scheduled performance in Nashville, Tennessee.
Officials at the city’s concert venue Ryman Auditorium announced nearly 10 minutes after the Russian-born Fidelity singer was due to take the stage that Spektor was being held by doctors at a local hospital for observation.
A statement released by her management read, "Last night in Nashville, following her sound check at the Ryman Auditorium, Regina Spektor was taken to a local hospital after collapsing due to a severe inner ear infection which caused a sudden case of vertigo.
"Regina was released late last night and is resting comfortably. Regina is extremely disappointed that she had to cancel on her fans but will return to the Ryman on December 6th, where all tickets will be honoured or refunded." Spektor is currently on tour in support of her latest album, Begin to Hope.

Rapper KANYE WEST was unaware of his mother’s plans to undergo cosmetic surgery and is "in denial" about DR. DONDA WEST’s unexpected death, according to reports.
West, 58, passed away in Los Angeles on Saturday (10Nov07) following possible complications from a tummy tuck and breast reduction operation she had on Friday (09Nov07). An autopsy performed on Wednesday (14Nov07) proved inconclusive.
The Gold Digger hitmaker was in London when he found out the tragic news, and immediately flew back to the U.S. to mourn his loss.
And according to the New York Daily News, the hip-hop star is still struggling to come to terms with his mother’s death.
A family friend says, "I don’t think Kanye was aware Donda was getting the surgery, or certainly the extent of it.
"He loved and supported her just the way she was. He thought she was beautiful. (But) Donda had image issues, like a lot of women." West has often spoken of the close relationship he shared with his mother, and he dedicated a song, Hey Mama, to her on his 2005 sophomore album Late Registration.
Her funeral has been scheduled to take place on Tuesday (20Nov07) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, according to the close pal.

A German man stripped off in court - as he was appealing against a conviction for flashing.
The 60-year-old was in court to appeal against his conviction for running onto the pitch naked during a girls’ soccer match and striking a range of "body builder poses".
A spokesman for the court in the city of Duisburg added: "The court withdrew for deliberations and during the adjournment the man removed his clothes again. It appears he sees it as art, and views himself as a living work of art." State prosecutors filed fresh charges of indecent behaviour against the man after the court incident.

An Australian man stripped off and used his underpants to blindfold a crocodile he had found on a beach.
Jimmy Howard wanted to calm the 5ft creature down and says his red underwear was all he had.
Jimmy - who had found the saltwater crocodile on Darwin’s Casuarina Beach - said: "I just ripped my jocks off, soaked them in the water and wrapped them around its face.
"It was a bit cranky and that was the only thing I could use to cover its eyes.
"I’m probably the only one in the world who can say they went commando for a croc. I’m just lucky it wasn’t a bull - it would have arced up a bit at the sight of red jocks."
