An American black bear has been accused of stealing a people carrier in New Jersey.
Police believe the large animal broke into the car - which was parked outside its owner’s house - before taking it for a short spin and abandoning it by the side of the road.
Police spokesman Detective Sean Talt said: "The passenger window was smashed and the attending officer Dave Dehardt determined it was a bear because of all the bear hair inside.
"We believe the animal accidentally released the emergency brake and allowed the vehicle to roll 50 feet away from the owner’s house." Police said the bear was probably attracted by sweets left in the back seat.
Talt added: "This the first time we’ve ever had an animal take a car like that."
